  1. Best I ever had was a full springer, old type, stocky, very strong, broad head and shoulders. Would burst cover after fur or feather, follow a line, run with hounds, mark fox holes, dig rats, would grab and pull at a dig....hard mouth on sharp toothed game but soft when retrieving feather.
  2. I tend to stay out of the fields from mid March til Aug. Road work, beach walks and swims keep mine fit.
  3. I think the truth around the Plummers and Hancocks of the dog world ? is somewhere in the middle. They certainly weren't the Demi Gods some aspire them to be but I don't think they were the rogues and scoundrels others claim they were.
  4. Couple of rats got today. I don't get big numbers cos the rats we get are wild ’country' rats living in woods and ditches in the country side, so not in the numbers you get on say a chicken or pig farm. But they're harder to find and the burrows can be difficult at times to scratch out so takes a good nose and brains.
  5. Patterdale x border/Russell..... I seen the parents and no hound in em but I did think there was some besgle blood in him myself. I actually rang the fella I got him off and asked him if there was any but he said no there wasn't.
  6. Marked a burrow and bolted a few rats out and hunted em up and down the river, marked them too other burrows. Great hunting along the river.
  7. Rabbits are like hens teeth but a few slips does me, don't want his leg injury flaring up. Went to a spot for a walk more than anything, had the terrier with me running of the lead too doing a bit of night bushing and spotted this lad squatting out in long grass.
  8. The young lad loved him to much to even consider anything else other than keep him but at least I can get him out for a lamp now and then.
  9. A broken front leg ment he was retired to ratting and day time mooching but decided to give him a run recently. Two out of three slips.
  10. One from the other day. Marked a small burrow rat or ? leading under this stump but too many escapes and safety under the stump.
  11. No. Rat gave us the slip and bunnie's went to ground.
  12. Was some good uns around North Dublin few yrs back in the 80s and 90s but by the early 00s lads stopped keeping em. Hard got.
