Just read the thread on black dogs and how the heat affects them,I was wondering if any of you lurcher owners ever give your dogs electrolytes in the hot weather.I always give it to the racing greyhounds throughout the summer months.

Why not??? if its only 2yrs, will be ok off lead. I have a 12mth one in atm, he is good of lead and great with the terrier. I have lucy from Bob, she is erm 7yrs I think, she is fantastic off lead and great with the terrier. This may be, but from past experince, some are good, most can be killer mad They can take some time to settle down. If it was a track fighter, it will fight at the drop off a hat over the most trival things with other dogs, just a warning, but, then again, you could be plesently suprised and have a gooden. Frank. Trouble is...Is that it is 35 unregulated shots total. This means you will only get approximately 12-15 consistantly powered shots. The first and last dozen or so will be all over the place. I trialled one about 6 months ago, the are deadly accurate but a real pain in the ass because of the lack of shots. I tried the .177 and i know that the .22 has more shots (60-70 if I remember right) but for me that is still not enough especially when ratting and shooting feral pigeons. doddsy According to the BSA brochure the Ultra gives 35 shots in .177 calibre and 40 shots in .22 calibre.

What age is your pup mate? Most pups go through difficult periods,in that respect they are similair to kids.You've no doubt heard the expressions-"terrible two's" and "the troublesome teens" My pup is nearly 5 months,last week she stopped bringing the dummy back,infact she stopped picking it up I left her off retrieving for a few days,then yesterday I shot 4 rabbits and 2 rooks,so I tried her with a 1/2 sized rabbit,which she brought back twice . She was back onto the rabbit skin dummy today and she brought it back twice so hopefully we are back on track She isn't as steady o

Yeah i'm sure it did there a greyhound track in my town and they yoused to run a 264yards race and any thing that could break 15 seconds was open class so i think your stop watch is a bit out That wouldn't be "THE CURRAGH" by any chance Luke,I had a black dog that won a good few opens up there including 5.47 seconds for the 100yards. He also did 16.29s for 300yards at Carfin.

There is only two season suppresants I would use on a running dog Frank, Either Durateston or Laurabolin,both are monthly or 28 day jabs. My vet wanted £15 a jab for Laurabolin A bottle costs about £25 and contains 10 doses,which works out at £2.50/jag I've used Laurabolin on many greyhounds over the years Frank and can tell you it doesn't affect thier ability in the breeding paddock.

Decided to kill two birds with one stone tonight [pardon the pun] when I had a shot at the branchers and took the pup a walk at the same time It's only a small rookery and some of the young rooks are already airbourne Only managed the 4 branchers,the 1st was still alive when it hit the ground and when it moved as the pup sniffed it she wasn't sure of it at all.She soon settled down though

Two books that I think are well worth reading are- GUNDOGS-their learning chain. and Training spaniels,both written by Joe Irving. I know they are not aimed specifically at lurchers but it gives you an insight into how a professional gundog trainer works
