  1. same situation as you, ma pups a year old now hiking along the coast every day and loads of rabbits about again, hope they still thriving in september! Anyway walking the hard sand on the tide line for obvious reasons also to avoid too many chases on rabbit although ma pups caught 6 daytime rabbits already mainly by pouncing on them in the reeds. keep walking them do you good to, feckin killing me sore tendons in legs !
  2. had this type of injury a couple of times before first time in my youth with a big coursing type lurcher and did as you did went to the vets; anti-inflamiteris (sorry cant spell either) bandages and repeat visits any way dog lost its toe, another time I was out coursing with a guy who kept racing greyhounds and my dog a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie got identical injury remembering my old dogs injury I was devastated as I could imagine a similar fiasco (EXPENSIVE) vet routine, any way seeing my distress my companion with greyhound racing experience imediately took my dogs toe and nicked it bellow the sw
  3. you will get a few belly catches here, think ditch was right they look low,set 1/3rd of noose above the fence wire and you should chin them clean, also a bit shinny.

  6. 1year up 1 year oot.
  7. SOUNDS A LOT MORE NATURAL AND HUMANE THAT TAKING A DOG TO THE VETS,WHERE THE ENVIRONMENT IS COLD AND CLINICAL AND A PLACE THE DOGS WOULD BE NATURALY STRESSED!
  8. anyone a member of the moocher site
  9. always thought the 2 sighthounds that were the keenest or most naturaly inclined to take larger quarry was the deerhound and the saluki,I remember in the late 70's there were a few deerhound/saluki/greyhound's crosses in this area of scotland, seen one work and it was exceptional.
  10. used to feed this way years ago,but to minimise the risk of worms/infection freeze them first I got an old chest freezer in the garage, just gutted them and cut off the feet(to get more in the freezer),and never had any problems probarbly cause of the fur/fibre stopping tapeworms from latching on to the intestine wall, after all its how they should eat. oh yes also heard somewhere that raw rabbit bones are equal to red meat nutritionaly.
  11. haha, funny you should ask, well sort of got a 3/8 5/8 but its bred of the old bitch and a border 3/4 cross cause I reckon the borders are more keen to please you easier to train ,well the dog Ive got now is only 1/8 beardie but hes a bit stubbourn and a complete clown(supose I should expect that) darn! but very keen and looks promising ,hey anyone had this cross and know what height they level out at cause mines 26" and 9mths old still got a lump of knuckle yet to grow out.
  12. have to agree with whin had a hancock first cross in the late 80s that was a nervy lunatic of a dog that nearly drove me insane, but stuck it out and ended up with a 1st class lamper although at that time used to lamp up perthshire 3-4 times a week ,guess it was make or break and well probarbly she was my best dog catch rate anyway ,but she wasnt my favourite dog mainly because she was hard work training.
  13. had first cross bitch of richard jones in 1990,bit nervous and scatty, eventualy turned out a good rabbit lamper 40-50 a night (up perthshire) bags of stamina but yes she was an idiot! got home bred 3/8 5/8 collie cross now 1/8 beardie also a bit of an idiot but great alrounder,if Icould, I would get a pup at 5-6 weeks to "click" with the dog,but this may also be because of the beardie blood, borders keener to please you, also beardie coat feet and height also an advantage over border cross especialy first cross litters.
  14. 3rd gen Irish/scottish great grand father Irish traveller, first job Idid "trainee shepherd"worked one or two days with travellers told me they were decended from the kings of scotland took to the road (ireland)after culloden to escape persecution.
  15. rabbits can realy shift on short turf ,start my pups on the dunes nice and soft under foot and the rough ground slows the bunnies up a bit.
  16. No I dont, and a gamedealer from the borders was paying £1.25 snared or netted 20years ago.
  17. Agree with pointer28,rather piss off a bull than a suckler herd !
  18. thats realy irresponsible stupid twats Had 5 cigarettes in a snare once! least he wasnt stealing.
  19. looks a perfect build for breeding 3/4 breds ,nice dog.
