  1. cant argue with that mate
  2. why do people post when they have allready said on other forums they wont be using this one again?
  3. I meant if we keep getting winters like this year and last year. allready heard some lads saying they might jack it in if its like this next year. I wouldnt personally but I know others who are utterly pissed off with the weather these last 2 seasons as soon as they get a dog to near peak fitness the ice and snow come and then thats it til about february by which time the seasons basically over
  4. everyones in the same boat mate. I think a lot of running dog lads will jack it in. But if your hearts really in it you just have to take the rough with the smooth
  5. take it for a drive with the heaters on full blast before you go to bed, then tuck it up with the engine blanket in as sheltered a place as possible and hope for the best. when it gets right down into the -20s sometimes you have to use a heat gun and get a jump start, been there myself a few times last winter and once so far this winter, its a pain in the ass cant wait til it thaws!
  6. thats good you got it going if you can park it somewhere where theres a bit more heat than its present spot, a garage? or even up beside the house or outbuildings to get some shelter from icy winds, anything that keeps the temperature up will help
  7. I will stick to slitting them open as well my dogs are all gut busters
  8. good write up there lad sounds like you had a good night and made the best of conditions
  9. If temps are dropping to -10 and below put a bit of petrol in your tank like rio says another thing you can do when you know its going to be a cold one is put a blanket over the engine while its still warm from the last time you use it and shut the bonnet down over it, this will help keep the heat in longer
  10. Richie makes some good points there about costs, rescues get microchips for a fraction of the price vets charge the public to have a pet dog chipped and they will also get vaccinations at reduced prices, in a similar way to large scale breeders they can sometimes get discounts too if having litters of puppies vaccd and chipped at the same time. so I dont think you can say vaccing and chipping dogs costs £100's allthough if they are sick and need treatment this is where the big bills will come in
  11. great pics looks like you had a good holiday
  12. well said totally agree, its a great feeling to train your own pup and then watch it working when its old enough
  13. found this http://www.cambridgefirst.co.uk/news/three_hare_coursers_fined_after_being_caught_by_cambridgeshire_police_1_755105
  14. well said agree with that totally the name longdog is quite an old fashioned name and not many people use it nowadays theyre all lurchers imo
  15. lamping will give you an idea what fields the hares are using but not an accurate guide if theres woodland etc nearby theres a good chance the hares will be in there during the daytime and feed in the field at night. If your walking likely fields, especially stubbles, look for the small mound of earth where the hares have made a deep bed, they will lie in the shallow part and the soil is sometimes kicked up in a pile behind them. If you have walked a field a few times you will get to know where the beds are, and you can walk the field accordingly
  16. well done wish there were some spots round me like that
  17. Ive only seen one but its a first class dog very keen and committed to its quarry, plenty of stamina, a really handy dog. One thing I will say though is the money thing shouldnt come into it with the guys who really work these dogs. The owner of the dog I just mentioned wouldnt dream of selling pups from the line at the crazy prices some do, its lads like him you want to deal with if your getting one not the ones who need to advertise in the sporting press to sell their wares
  18. hope you get it sorted mate, this is a bad time of year for messers as they put money in front of doing whats right
