  1. I've always found something like this useful! http://www.nomaduk.net/products_pickinguptrainingvests_genpurposevest.php There's a few companies making this kind of gear, but it allows it to be worn in any weather and does not affect the performance of your outer gear
  2. I'd like to see a Catalouha x greyhound. Though to be fair, I'd probably hear it before I saw it
  3. So who is currently working a KNOWN lab/grey half cross?
  4. If my memory is correct, the Baikal has tight bores. As such a standard bore gauge may give some misleading results. you may find that your gun is choked half and full (which was a common Baikal SBS set up). in which case, only one barrel needs opening up from full to quarter. So half the price! Can you tell I'm a Yorkshireman?
  5. 8 years bud... eye test needed, but my sentiment remains the same
  6. Anybody who needs to bray an 8 month old pup with a board to get something off it should look at keeping something other than dogs. Sea monkeys would be about the limit!
  7. I suspect a lot of it comes down to concern about finding homes for pups. Even if someone decided to breed a litter because they wanted a pup bred that way, they're still faced with the possibility of being stuck with half a dozen pups that no one wants because it's an uniusual cross that most people wouldn't be prepared to take a chance on. "Chances" in the equation have spawned many a diamond, yet much more "coal",far, far better to breed from proven stock and take the "chance" factor out, saying that without the folk taking the "risk factor" some diamonds would never be unearthed. I agr
  8. You wouldnt go far wrong with this dog as a starting point.. devastating on the deer even if 1 of them is a flat coated retriever! Now that would throw a racier type lab 1/2x lurcher, if you could find a good worker
  9. I think if your gun throws good patterns with a particular 32g cartridge, and it choked 1/2 or more in both barrels, then go for No5 shot. but if you have open chokes, 32g of No6 will give a fuller pattern, but at the expense of a little range.
  10. I know of a keeper who's 1/4 bull x got over his lab. 2 of the litter stayed on the shoot. both were raised as general shoot/farm dogs. they excelled at driving large blocks of forestry for vermin and were quite handy on the lamp. As gundogs they were not too shabby either. As an all round countrymans dog, the lab x lurcher is worth a punt
  11. it depends on who's asking Often include a small amount of bluff or bullsh#t
  12. I see Hancock was pushing stuff back then too! and still at the same phone number!!
  13. I'ts a bit late now, but there is an additive for concrete that makes it more suitable for kennels and stables etc. Stops p#ss rot
  14. I have recently had a look at a litter, where half of them looked just like those 2 pups. But in the main they were black and white, Which I'm surprised that picture isn't!
  15. Phil, Was that dog out of "Sadie"? to be honest, its like a blast from my family past
  16. I grew up around dogs like some of these old pics. And they are still around, I can think of 3 of similar types, working on farms and small holdings around here. They are just farm bred, good dog to good dog. with beardie, border, terrier and labrador in the mix. basically a hairy farm cur, that will shift stock and guard a yard i seen a real nice old style lookin collie , used to move cattle about , turns out it was a 3/4 collie 1/4 lab .. it could shift and work like hell , got me thinking when did collies become a set breed and not just cur to cur .. whenever they came to market. you c
  17. why ? Something different and gives us the chance to get lurchers like the old mick douglas dogs that used to be up this way How long ago were the MD dogs bred? and what REALLY went into them? I'm not looking for an argument, just genuinely interested.

  20. I've come across 3 flawless dogs over the years. One was up for Stud, and the other 2 were for sale
  21. Nice to see you have kept your promise to ease up a bit this season Jim!
  22. look at some of the 5.11 tactical trousers for "dry"weather
  23. My choice of 6.5 x55 was driven by the fact (belief!) that light to heavy rounds will shoot well through the same 1-9 twist, which from what I understand is not the case with the .243
