  1. Cheers Matt Buffalo horn it is then!, its been great doing this and indeed a learning curve as Ive never done anything like this before and therefore yours and other members input has been extremely helpful. Have got the liners cut, drilled and shaped so will post a pic tomorrow Atb Ade
  2. I had thought of that Matt after seeing someone on here making micarta out of denim. I shall search again and see if I can find some if not then yeah I might have a go, what about buffalo horn as suggested by gafer? Almost got the liners shaped now , dont think Ill finish them today so will put a pic up tomorrow.
  3. Found these Matt what do you reckon? http://www.ebay.co.u...3#ht_500wt_1127 Think they will show the brass off nicely
  4. Thanks matt too late on the filling already done but I used a black epoxy putty thought it would be easier to handle being as Im a beginner . As for scales I was gonna use some ivory linen micarta but Ive had to change my plans as I couldnt get any that were wide enough, so Im open to suggestions really. Atb Ade
  5. Bolsters fitted using 3mm brass rods, needs a little further polishing but pleased with the result Next to fill the filework and then hopefully get the brass liners and scales on
  6. theres some really helpful guys on here that will point you in the right direction, Ive just started making a few knives and have made them from old circular saw blades, but as paulus says midnight is the man. I also trawled through youtube too and found some really good info, good luck anyway fella but beware its addictive as hell
  7. well the holes drilled for the bolsters and the sanding of the blade coming on a treat I thinks up to 1200grit so a little bit to do but its looking ok so far
  8. Like the look of that Gin. What is the micarta like to work with ie. cutting and sanding/finishing?
  9. Not sure on the handle yet but yes Matt gonna take my time and hopefully do it justice, i am much encouraged by the comments fellas thankyou

  11. Heres my latest knife project , even trying a bit of filework So far I'm pleased with it and it sits nicely in the hand so fingers crossed it will turn out ok
  12. liking the look of those Rob will like to see the last one when its finished
  13. look forward to seeing your latest creations, you really do turn out some quality stuff, Ive just started another one now Im gonna try and up my game a little with this one and might even try a little file work on it Ade
  14. Hi Matt with the first one I didnt just softened the handle to enable me to drill it with the second one I did, I trawled the net to try and gather as much info as possible cos Ive never done anything like this before, but I have always tried to have a go at different things from knitting purse nets to tying my own flys for fishing. I think theres an improvement from the first one so its onwards and upwards because its strangely addictive.
  15. They look good buddy I have some exotic woods and sell scales and blocks to some of the ladies on here just give me a shout if you want any They look like good working knives to me buddy keep up the good work and keep us updated Atb rob Cheers rob I'll pm you when Im ready for some and you can let me know the prices
  16. thanks fellas going to try fancy wooden scales off ebay next I think, the handle on the second one is made from the the same branch that the blade is stuck in and the first one is just a bit of hazel.
  17. Well i've been following some of the knife making threads recently and decided to give it a bash, anyway heres two that I made from an old circular saw blade, I'm quite pleased with the results but I've learnt quite a bit and hopefully the next ones will be an improvement. Atb Ade
