Not my idea of a well educated working dog. . . It would have to be the best dog I had ever owned and I would never breed from that sort of characteristic. . . Its shame when you have a world beater, but its still got traits you would not want in future breeding. Hes probably a more capable worker than anything you have. He is a line dred desert dog from our own lines he is bred to kill stuff and his line are to put meat on the table daily in COO not weekend sport. If you knew anything about saluki packs you would know what traits the Alpha males and females retain and generations of Alphas c

My Saluki dog 5 years old soft as f**k with people but he wont tolerate any dog be it a dog. bitch or pup invading his personal space he will draw blood . When in the van with other dogs they have to be caged for their own protection his size means if he is caged the cage fills the van. He is a dominant dog yet once out on the land he doesnt pay any attention to other working dogs unless they try to take his catches then its a dangerous place to be.

i have listened to a couple of interviews of Trumps over the last couple of days. Suprisingly now the election tripe and politicking is out of the way quite a lot of his ideas and intentions make sense he is an intelligent man which before he gave me the opposite opinion. One or two of his electoral policies were off the wall (no pun intended) but now my opinions have changed and the man if he continues with his revised pledges he could be beneficial in cleaning up the old boy political dynasties of politics as long as he doesnt fall into the family enhancement pitfall of previous encumbants a

If your kennel is a mixed kennel you should know what your doing. If a bitch gets lined "accidently" the blame lies fairly and squarely with the owner for not paying enough attention to his stock.

I wouldnt think running him on hard ground would cause infection in the nail roots. Clean his feet after work using either salt /water or a weak disenfectant/water mix keep an old tooth brush to clean around the nails, and dont allow dogs to stand on wet flloors. In the mean while two drops of pure teatree oil in a half litre of water and dip his feet a couple of times a day.

desertbred replied to Joshua Wheeler's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
And the English lads can't comment because coursing Hares in England is illegal. Unless of course they are talking about what they used to do prior to the ban. its only illegal if your unfortunate enough to get caught -

Best Dog For Hare On Small Fields
desertbred replied to Joshua Wheeler's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
With specific breeds you are reasonably sure what you will get as regards size, aptitude and within certain boundaries capabilities . When crosses especially multiple crosses enter the equation it changes so its not a one size fits all scenario Are you sure your not Paul Danials ghost with your fascination with cards and trick questions. -

Best Dog For Hare On Small Fields
desertbred replied to Joshua Wheeler's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
People talk about one trick ponies then want a dog to run on specific land. If I have a running/ hunting dog it needs to do just that irrespective of the type or size of land or what game it is loosed on. Otherwis how is a working dog, one trick ponies belong in a circus. -

if the dog can see the target and it can run slip the dog it will either get it or it wont.. -
Had acouple of hours walk out yesterday over cast little on the warm side but ground was bangon for running. Never saw diddly. last year this time same ground was bumping . Farmers thick on the ground ploughing and rolling need another week or two and a couple of frosts. Even a charlie was running about but to far and wrong side of a busy road to get a look so lives on for another day.

We are talking about a fair course one on one, a Saluki ain't out running one. Your entitled to your opinion .Have you seen one run or have you seen a saluki run anything other than a hare The ladson the ground over there seem to be of a different opnion so its a difference of opinion.

Pronghorns are endangered in some states so licences to shoot are balloted you cant get a licence to course them so the likely hood of posted footage is remote but no doubt it goes on just as coursing does here. Lions or should I say lionesses hunt in packs as do wolves so they dont actually catch the prey with speed its more entrapment. A brown hare up hill will outrun any dog but they still get caught any form of hunting has to be one sided to get a result.

Who are these men? Men who hunt all over the Southern States ,Western and Central states of North America and Mexico with Dogs ,Guns Bows/crossbows traps and yes I meant pronghorn not spring horN Do you think the Pronghorn has no natural predators or are not hunted? They also told me that Pronghorns will lay up in tree plantations at higher levels when they leave the prairies and the most interesting fact that they very rarely jump fences for some reason.
-
Where you got that from? They can run at 43mph for 30 mins or more, no Saluki could come close to that. I read up on the Springhorn excactly the same as you did, plus I spoke to some friends who run dogs on them in America and I know Saluki,s capabilities from a life time of living with them.. Springhorn? You mean Pronghorn? I haven't seen any evidence of folk running them with sighthounds, who are these men? .

They can reack 53 miles per hour for short periods then run at half that for miles that means 26 mph how would they they leave any dog standing for speed and stamina a saluki will maintain 34 mph for 12/15 km.and reach 42 mph for periods. They hunt the spring horn with Dogs in N America or so I have been informed, maximum speeds and sustained effort must surely depend on terrain and weather conditions. Cheetahs can run for short periods at 70mph but game escapes and some gets caught statistics dont mean a lot in Nature
