  1. nice looking ferret box, ferts too of course
  2. just a quick post, have seen the use of range markers, for when sitting in a hide, plastic markers put out at different yards, so that on spotting quarry a quick calculation can be made on how far away, well looking in B & Q today(last minute pressie thing, lol) pick up a pkt of these plant markers for 10p think they will work well
  3. don't laugh, but "her that must be obeyed" wants one as a house pet suppose It'll be fun for the russell when she's out shopping

  7. note to self... quote; Fox skin preparation make sure you have the correct glasses on in future........ I looked at this quick and thought it said fore skin preparation
  8. oi pat, you could always ask me along and Ill bring the night vision and spot them for ya
  9. hi, the mesh on pigeon net IS SQUARE, but the way its made unless stretched, it pulls its self back to the diamond pattern so on the purse nets I basically have a 16 sq x 16 sq but used corner to opposite corner, if I was to try making a long net from this stuff, it would be cut square(oblong) but once hanging on poles would again pull itself into the diamond position, pigeons get tangled in this stuff when its pulled taunt, so I think with a good bagginess as rabbithunter says, the rabbits will get well tangled as stated earlier, the proof will be when we get to try i
  10. the last pic looks like pigeon netting to me proofing 2" x2"?
  11. quote;whats the best size? length and thickness ask the wife
  12. thanks RH, that sounds more like it...
  13. each hole is 2" so 12 to 13 holes is only 26" which seems too short to me, on looking at pictures, as well as having baggyness in the length, it also looks like you have it in the height as well? so that maybe 8" is laying on the floor before going horizontal...if that makes sense.. wont know about it picking up stuff/leaves from floor until its tried, but fingers crossed
  14. well after finishing the ferts court( or so I thought) the sleeping box was fixed up high with a few tunnels/pipes coming down to ground level well foxy and vixen soon figured out they could climb on top of the pipes to gain access to the hutch roof, which gave me concern that they may fall on there way down, so spent the afternoon making and fixing some mesh tunnels to aid there descent, only for them to figure out a different way down....d'oh but at least it gives them more to do before picture and after
  15. well prehaps the RSPCA would like to read this an take note, as a pest controller working within the M25 we also get the grisley task of clearing up the mess left by jumpers(onto rail tracks) and druggies needles left in public places, prehaps we should give up what we do, and let them do it instead
  16. some of you may remember a post I put up about making nets well I had an attempt at making some nets, especially after watch a dvd on ferreting down under, and see that they use a much finer net than us, maybe 1"x1" so here's a pic of my first atempt's using split rings and nylon brick line, cheap or what at this price, they work out around 50p per any size net, tried a 4ft net but that looks way to big as unlike a handmade net, each row down has one extra hole, so settled on a 3ft net which looks pretty good, and does what is expected, it closes up (purse's) when tried out at home
  17. hi mate, it all depends what your classing as vermin? quote;WHAT WOULD you SUGGEST FOR VERMIN I use a air arms S410 .22 for rabbit control as a main quarry, but also feral pigeon, and at close quarters its a must for rats the 177 or 22 debate has come up loads of times, and your always gonna get a mixture of answers as at the end of the day, every shooter uses his or her favoured pellet size and are therefore more likely to tell you that size your best bet would be to find a good gun shop, that way you should get an un-biased opinion and should be able to get a test go of diff
  18. and do you have the landowners permission to shoot the field if so, and there's no other available I've always found a water butt is a good attractent, an old cut down barrel, left in position will bring birds in
  19. rabbits have the same chew instinct as rats, Ive seen rats chew through 4" lead soil pipe and solid concrete, wire wool in concrete stops them for some reason, maybe it puts their teeth on edge :11:
  20. aint it worth going to where he was and looking for the lost ones
  21. took the plunge and put mself in a bit more debt aint plastic great although not have any permission for night shoots YET, I felt it was worth £99 by the replies from others and would rather get it now, than wait and not get one in time so just trying it in the garden and Im well impressed looking out with the naked eye vison to about half way, flick the unit on and I can see the ferts at bottom of garden, flick the IR on and its like standing there with a torch, yet as others have said, the rabbits/rats wont see you dunno if it will work with recharables as it says to use
  22. hi all, just popped into LIDL with the other half and saw they are doing a mens winter boot, wellington type bottom and moon boot type top, fur linned, and only £6.99 so picked up a pair and have to say, feel well snug, Ill test them out over the shoot and see if they work, lol secondly noticed they are doing a night vison monocular for £99.00 now know absolute squat about these but maybe someone on here will and can check them out to see if there any good? stubby
  23. have to say, same as above, if your not hitting with head shots, then the bunnies are crawling/jumping away and your making the animal suffer a painfall death, head shots only, and practise to make sure your hitting a mark at deside ranges, maybe your range finding skills are under par so your aiming at the larger area(body) rather than head, if so, try getting closer dont want to sound like a moaner, but if you cant get head shots, dont shoot
  24. found this one pat, but think its only an 8ft one, bay of E, no 320058000008
  25. hi all, just thought I'd ask for comments/Ideas from the more experienced of you out there not wanting to be a cheap skate, but Im always on the look out on how to make things rather than rush out and buy, untill yesterday when I hope Ive had a brainwave, as I want to get into ferreting, an amount of purse nets were on the buying agenda, then last night I started thinking about the large amounts of "pigeon netting" at my disposal (pest control pigeon work) its a black nylon net with a 2" square hole, and I get untold amounts of NEW offcuts, could this be used to make purse nets?? by a
