Are you finding any rat resistance/difficulty controlling rats?? I often use Rat CP Blocks which so far seem to work very well, I do use difenacoum/bromadiolone preps as well so that all bases are covered. What are works for you??

				Wanted Birchmeier Dr5 Lances
shropshire mole replied to Froudy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Yep the XL8 Lance are bloody expensive for what they don`t cost to manufacture. I have used the good ol fashioned "Dust Stick" over the last 10 years and still find it a great bit of kit. Yes its heavier, will not reach as far, but as yet have not had a nest I cant manage. As others have said a little piece of copper tubing on the end helps with added direction into awkward holes. Hope that helps -
I dont think your make it rich as a pestie, but will have fun on the way. Try getting some really good flyers and postcard sized adverts, laminate them and staple to telegraph poles and notice boards and in shop windows, its all about getting your name out there, keep trying you will get some work and if good and can talk to the customer will get repeat business and more importantly recommendations. Choose well for your adverts, perhaps a logo, a colour that will set you apart from the others, keep to it, and then customers will be drawn to it, may help them track you down at a later date.

Still using Ficam W this year and call backs

Have done my average amount of wasps, probably about 20. Lots more moles than normal, but strangely almost no fleas or ants? whats going on
 -
Clearly not otherwise this particular vole population would be under control. Maybe a perch around these holes would allow a passing owl or prey bird better view point, will suggest to owners

Any rabbit fleas carrying the Myxoma virus that bites another rabbit either wild or domestic will contract mxy. Direct contact between infected rabbit and others will result in most rabbits in the warren getting mxy.

	Thanks

Before I ask Bayer this question, thought I would ask it here?? Customers ask me how does Ficam kill?? I normally tell them it affects the central nervous system and stops the breathing am I correct?

i know that Rentokil used to be very specific about what was covered in their contract, eg covered for crawling insects, but did not include cockroaches, or may be on for cockroaches and have silver fish, guess what an extra charge to treat. Trouble with the big firms, folk think big is best, best price big service. Actually price has to pay for the branch managers, technicians, share profit, back room staff etc. Income Detectors were always used, OOoops, mean Insect Detectors, extra revenue sought by telling customers the scary news of what has been found on them

Got called to a report of rats in the lawn today. No rats but voles have taken over old mole runs. The moles were trapped last winter. There are over 40 holes ruining the lawn now, each hole has very short nibbled grass around, sure they are voles. Can anything be done to move them on??

£40 is my starting price this year. Can make a tidy profit, and at this price (cheaper than the council) do get repeat business

Went to check my Kania 2000 trap this morning, got them down for squirrels. Got a proper guard screwed in place (from Barratine, to protect against non targets), so that the animal has to get through a tight square, turn 90 degrees and walk into trap. What did I find??? An adult hedgehog, unfortuantly, still cant believe just how it managed to squeeze through the 7cm x 7cm hole??

All pest control manufacturers seem to constantly out do each other by reinventing the wheel? I find that generally the basics still work fine and do not need all the fancy stuff - pasta bait, blocks, hard blocks, soft blocks. Although I do use Rat CP works well for me. I still have friends in Rentokil, they still and always have used pretty basic rodenticides and work well. What do you think?? .

Well I have had half dozen cage traps out for over a week now, still no rabbit. The carrot pieces I put out keep disappearing. Put a wildlife camera out over night Mice seen raiding all the carrots and hiding in the flowerbeds. Are the mice working in partnership with the rabbits, to ensure they do not get caught (seems like it) I now try and "fix" the carrots in place, which stops the instant removal. Abnyone else got experience of this? Thinking of getting fresh kill rabbits and putting the "wee" in/arpound trap to see if that helps encourage the rabs in?

As a rural pestie, most of my work is repeat business and word of mouth which is nice, and I guess my prices are competitive. I have a website, and advertise local on notice bords/parish magazines to get my name out there. Business for me ticks over quite nicely as its part time. But was wondering what works best for you?? Google Ad Words?, Paid Yell.com?knocking on doors?, as above?
 -
There talk about just how cheap some folk do Wasp Nests, from £10 per nest. How can you compete with that? I just hope that my regular customers will still employ me as their reliable tried and tested pestie. but for potential new customers, price is a major factor. £10 or £40 for the same result, which one would you choose. Your probably thinking that £40 is too cheap, but I always like to be cheaper than the council, and use this to help get the job.

Yes Moles, they keep coming in, getting quite a few that are running "spooked" just under the grass, takes a bit more skill and patience to catch
 -
Had my dust stick over 10 years now a great peace of kit. Have looked at the XLS fibreglass pole system, but think its way over priced, so will stick with the tried and tested

Hi, Went to a Auction of Promises and ended up with a days deer stalking, which sounds great fun. My pest control public liability will not cover "for fun" only commercial. A friend has also offered me a practice session shooting. So my question is: Whats the best and most economic way of getting cover? BASC? Game Keeper Association? Thanks in advance Chris

Matt, Did I mention NPTA making laws, No I did not And No the product I use does not mention blocking holes, but then it does not say "you cant wash your hair with it" Got to draw the line somewhere. If your going to be a professional pest controller then you need to take note of what others, ie NPTA, BPCA, DEFRA, HSE suggest best practice is. You could always test the system?, not block any holes tell the authorities what you have done, sit back and await their response.

Mr Wasp, Thank you let me explain what unclepesta was talking about re: blocking nest holes. As a pest controller, I have on occasions "killed off" a honey bee nest which was causing anxiety to the family. The bees were in a window frame near front door accessing this via a hole in the brick work/frame. The bees could not be removed by a bee keeper, or smoked out. So only alternative is to treat with an Insecticidal dust. The hole/bees dusted at dusk and then next morning ALL holes leading to the nest were blocked off to prevent honey bees from other hives smelling the now cont

You normally get about 4 ounces of actual honey in a bumble bee nest, its quite runny not like honey bee honey. its used as a food along with nectar and pollen Bumble bees are cute, generally wont hurt you and are nice to see. EVERYBODY "BEE"" BUMBLE BEE FRIENDLY

How much should I expect to pay for a day accompanied deer stalking? Regards
