  3. What i do and gereally most of the boys that i go with do is wash down the head with a sponge and some water to get the gereral dirt away. then wash again with salt water or detol, dry the head off. put dry cow cream into the cuts and if theres any nasty ones put a few stapes in to hold the cuts together so that they heal better. once the stapels are in put the dry cow nosle to one side of the staple and squese the stuff in. Give the dog a good drink of water and then it goes back into the box. We have started using metacam its a liquid thats thats squited down the dogs throat. It acts as
  4. Going back when we were younger when we could hunting my mate had three jack russels on his farm, it was a job to ever see them on the yard as they were allways off hunting. Remember loads of saturdays and sundays when we couldnt go hunting because the effing dogs had buggered off with out us, and had to wait untill they came back. sometimes the next day and through luck allways came home sometimes worste for wear a bit, but they had some fun somewhere!!! When they were around we used to take them out out and there were always 2 to ground and they neva really got hammered, usually 1 one wa

Dount want to sound nasty but i dount think you will have much luck with that dog. biggest load of bollocks iv hurd in a long time, weve had russell dogs from 4 years old and shit scared of going too ground after, after theyv seen one of the other dogs go too ground a couple of times they are on it like gin nd tonic so what you have just said my freid is utter bullshit i think the lad is right in what he is saying someone with an experianced dog will sort his dog out, maybe hes sevente

  9. So [bANNED TEXT] do you do with ur retired dogs wich hav had 2/3 times the season u just sed? Do u shoot them aswel for giving u years of pleasure?? TITTT!!!! retired dogs are retired dogs for a good reason you Muppet they have done their work without 'misbehaving' and a nice quiet pet home where they do not need such physical activity would suite. But thats not what we are on about here. What ime pointing out is that for a 3 year old working dog that’s used to hard work day in day out just to be passed on as pet, well the idea is ridiculous.
  10. shut up man ...another clown that cant teach dogs right from wrong of course you teach them right from wrong when pups, but what do you do when they kill something that they no they shudnt? ffs
  11. I read this post last wk sometime, f**k me whats all the fuss about? the dog killed something that it shouldnt have and there is only one to sort it out. i cud never take out a dog that i couldnt trust, what happens when its out of sight? do you call it back? It would happen again and next take it would probalily take another dog with it and you would have to end up shooting the 2. If any farmer around our parts knew that you kept a dog that killed sheep and it hadnt being rid of that would be the end of hunting on his ground. And somewone said give it 2 a pet home??? and working dog
  12. Best £60 i have ever spent! Wish i would have bought a pair when they first come out. When out waiting for the hounds on a cold day feet are warm as toast, only draw back when the weather is warm your feet are boiling.
  13. Need a new pair of digging boots for this season, willing to pay up to the £150 mark to try and get a decent pair to last. Just woundering what you lot have got and find out what is generally the best make ect... Thanks Rob
  14. How old is it? is there a power reducer on the lamp and how many hours lamping does the battery generally last for? Thnaks Rob
  15. I can see what your saying, but the fields last nt were plenty big enough, some of them 5-6 acres nice re-seeded good running ground and the rabbits were well out from the sides so the dog had pleantly of scope. And i asked a mate to come with me to make sure i was doing things right. I will keep trying with him as before i was more of a 12bore man with a lamp but taking a dog out although not doing very well has been an eye opener! thanks rob
  16. Hi, Just a little update to those who offered their advice. Took the dog out monday nt, walked up the hedge row rabbit about 40 yeards up and say 30 yards out. walked up to it made sure that the dog seen it and left it go, just missed it as it got to the hedge. I though ok first go theres some hope for you boy! Was expecting a few for runs that nt but there was a few foxes about that probabily put them to ground! and f**k wernt they lamp shy! Seen another rabbit and the dog made a right pigs ear of it! i left it for that for the nt and went home! Went out last nt to a place that was
  17. Thanks for the advice, being out with him all morning, what ive noticed the most is how keen and sharp is eyes are! He had half a chase through some thick cover but i think hes carring a bit 2 much weight its got a hell of a back on it! couple of wks now to get him a little bit fitter and will certantly try him on the lamp. Will take some photos to see what u think of him and add them on! Thanks Rob
  18. Hello all, was offered a whippet dog yesterday through a mate due to the owners unforceen circumstances, which i accepted and said would give a good home to. I got the dog tonight its coming up to nearly 5 years old, a good slab of a dog 22.5" high and looks powerfull with it. Been told that its a good ferreting dog and general day time hunter. Thats suites me fine as ive got plenty of permission that would keep him happy! but out of interest how much of a job would it be to try and teach him on the lamp? would you treat him as a pup? as he has never been out lamping at night! Although i do a
  19. Its what u do with the pup is more important than the exact cross. Time and effort in training the dog and giving it enough work to master its trade!
  20. Picking up my kelpie pup 2nt! Hope he comes a gd un!

  21. The charger could be f****d?? Try and borrow a new charger 2 see whether that helps. Saying that if the battery's being flat all summer that would seriously nacker it up and would not hold much of a charge after that??? hope you get it back working! atb Rob
  22. I have a 3/4 grey / 1/4 deerhound bitch in pup at the moment and due to deliver next weekend. My bitch is a very, very good allrounder and outstandingly good on heavy quarry. She is in pup to Dave Platts pure deerhound Turpin so the pups will be 5/8 deerhound / 3/8 greyhound. This breeding throws pups very similar to first cross deerhound/grey but usually with a bit more coat, pm me if you want more info. Cheers. Hello, Whats the height of the bitch? Seems a very intersing cross that would suit the my local ground! Cheers Rob My bitch is a whisker under 30" and 85
