  8. Hello. Thanks for your comments... Why do you say a terrier is a liability? I already have a locator, i use it for ferreting and managed to pick up a terrier collar that works with my box. Andy. Because once they get a taste for going to ground you wont stop it and rabbit holes can be very tight and a terrier can come unstuck also if your useing a terrier to flush from thick cover whos to say it wont come across burrows in thick cover and enter trust me mate ive seen it done a few times its really not an uncommon thing at all you would of been better of with a spaniel or small lurc

  11. Ive got some advice for you pal firstly if you want a dog for rabbiting dont use a terrier they are a liability especialy for someone who has little experience, and secondly buy yourself a locator and collar and make sure the terrier wears it when you go out with it and thirdly learn what quarry sign to look for when approaching holes in the ground
  12. I went out last night was clear and quiet also slightly misty still had a few good runs on mixed quarry never took much but the dogs got runs,if it had been ideal wind and dark i am pretty sure we would of had at least one thing in the bag that was missed for sure regards hedz
  13. I use thin rope leads i just cut the buckle of the end then burn it for a few seconds on the gas hob and fashion the end they work well for me and are abit more comfy on the wrist and hand than string and twine and the pre made loop you thread your hand through never breaks regards hedz

  15. We are gettin all mixed up here. Let me try and re-state what I'm gettin at. The good hounds we have over here at least can sprint at about 28 mph or some even a bit faster like at about 30 mph. I have seen these dogs lay down and run their guts out when coming out of the timber and lookin up at a coyote. They will pound the ground but even though they are tryin hard I have yet to see a hound type that can hold that sprint speed for any distance that impressed me. Now at 20 mph they can go forever and ever it seems but they do not have good sprintin endurance in my opinion. I have seen m
  16. Cheers mate but I think he's in Scotland no mate he lives in yorkshire
  17. Why rush my opinion is it takes 2 to 3 years to make a good dog and 2 to 3 minutes to ruin a potentialy good one just bide your time and let the pup be a pup and mature and enjoy watching it learn instead of pushing it what harm can waiting another 4 to 6 months
  18. depends what type of cover and terrain there crossing dan ive not seen mine or others run top out for 5 hours as i often lose sight of them but ive seen them going flat out for 40 mins to an hour and it was for sure more than 5 or 8mph a foxhound or husky type would run a saluki into the ground for sure but the saluki makes for a better cross with a greyhound for what folks want i think regards hedz I agree but I'll bet you in that 40 minutes they still didnt average 15 mph. I ran in the most wide open terrain that you could possibly run in and I still have never seen a hound that co
