  4. Cheers lads. Nope no convictions just that shit when theres no badgers on the ground in question. Useless excuse of a charity
  5. Hi lads bit of advice needed here. Ive been waiting to apply for my firearms for nerely 2 years now. I do the keepering for the syndicate im in and in june 2012 the sspca turned up demanding on the land saying theres a badger caught in a snare No badger found but was taken to court. Was in court yesterday and the case was thrown out as there was no evidence. Will this affect me in my application. I currently have shotguns but was going to renew it at the same time as i apply for a .22 and .22-250 so the renewal is at the same time. Thanks for any advice given
  6. As the title says whats the best bait for grey squirrels. Ive been asked to do a job on a mixed hardwood / softwood plantation along the edge of a river. Its to blood test the grey squirrels then a re introduction project in 2 years time with red squirrels. Will be using cage traps as theres very few reds already there so no fenn traps incase of catching reds. Is wheat any good in this enviroment as thats what i use on my syndicate that i keeper on fenn traps at all feed hoppers with wheat in tunnels. Or do you guys prefer anything different. Thanks, Andrew
  7. Hi lads im looking to build a few fenn trap boxes the ones like a bird nest box. Do you have any plans for them or dimensions. Many thanks.
  8. Set as light as they can go if a midge lands on the pan they will go off. Im out checking rabbit snares first thing in the morning will keep the livers out of them and also got a few pigeons hanging in the chill will get a handful of feathers and throw them about a bit. I normally use exactly the same method for mink with cages and mk6 fenns in tunnels. Cheers lads much appreciated.
  9. Hi lads got a few stoats going about got the tunnels set with mk4's for the past 2 weeks along walls and hedges where im seing them but nothing. Is there any bait i can use / make to get them or is it just the natural tunnels that work ?
  10. Hi lads going to make a few of my own rabbit snares for a fair bit of permission ive just got on a farm. Can you tell me what length of wire etc ive never made a rabbit snare before only a couple of fox snares. Can you give me a quick run through of things please also heard using a cordless drill to make them ? Ive got a big reel of red bailer twine on the shoot is that ok to use or will they notice the colour of it. Many thanks Andrew.
  11. Hi lads ive got a 3 month old patt x pup for earth work was going to start him on mice then move onto rats and squirrels then foxes. Is he too young to start on mice would you say ?
  12. Told them today the only 3 methods i would use is shooting with rifle at night (nobody about), snaring but checking before gates are opened and checking after gates are shut or ferreting. Im allowed to do it my way as long as a member of the public isnt arount or insulted. Also to put a sign on gate with a laminated copy of my permission
  13. Got a 13 week old bull x patt got the auntie to it myself and dig to her. This one is 13 weeks old and is ragging everything it gets in its mouth. Got a bit of a fox tail in a sock and it rags that so much theres buts of fox tail everywhere. Just a shame about the tail . How do i upload a pic from an i phone 4s ?
  14. Hi lads, got permission for a local cemetery having bother with moles and rabbits. Moles dead now the rabbit side of things is a different matter. Gave them a few options, ferreting, snaring, shooting or fenn traps. But my problem now is the council are wanting them live trapped and taken off site for disposal incase of offending a member of public. Question 1 is what sort of trap and placement etc. its a 15 foot wide rough strip ( brambles etc ) with a banking to a boundry burn. Hence the ferrets or fenn traps as there out of sight. Question 2 is what bait to use for rabbits and question 3 is
  15. Hi lads hows your season going are you getting much digging done ? Im yet to get a dig so far between work and most of my usual fox dens been taken over by pigs. Hope yous are getting a few.
  16. Hi lads do you think its worth lamping tonight with 25mph winds ? Got a few charlies about first chance ive had for a while because of work
  17. Alright lads looking for a bit of advice. Got a new bit of ground for foxes 3000 acres only 2 holes on it that are pigs. Seen 5 foxes around sheep last night with the lamp and shot 2. Found a cracking banking next to a burn asked farmer about putting in a few artificials on the ground he had no probs. if i build a few in the next couple weeks ( im a part time digger driver so get a mini digger from work to dig trenches) do you think they will be used this winter ? Cheers lads.
  18. between snaring and shooting ive had 7 foxes in the past 10 days from around my pheasant pens. snared a big dog fox yesterday that weighed in at 23lb. Also seeing another 2 or 3 at night so will pick them up with snares or at the middens.
  19. Well yes it is wrong because " who cares if it gets picked " well what if the bird is just pricked ? Are you just going to let it lie there and suffer ? These are the kind of comments that are giving the antis ammo against the shooting community....
  20. I've had 3 cubs (one vixen 2 dogs) and the vixen to the cubs in snares around one of my release pens in the past 3 days all caught and dispatched and seen 1 in the same area with the lamp at night which i thing is the dog fox. Apart from that nothing on 15000 acres of my permission. Must be something going on. I'm the only only one who shoots my foxing permission and only got 2 litters of cubs at cubbing time with the terrier because of chicken killing so not down to that ether ? Any ideas ?
  21. Ive got a spinner ordered should be here tomorrow. Would this work for wild ducks we dug out a new splash in the marsh this spring with the digger it goes from 4 or 5 inches at the sides to about 16 inches in the middle with an island in the middle ??
  22. Hope your son's ok bud. Youll get him next time i use that fox call and the tenterfield call aswell but still prefer using my hand for the early ones.
  23. Hi lads, as it reads im looking for ideas for feeders for feeding barley and broozed barley on 8 flight ponds got plenty of blue barrels about any advice. Also advice on feeding potatoes at the edges or in buckets or what ? Andrew
  24. Hi there, I'm looking to buy a cheap semi auto for throwing on the back of the quad bike for when I'm out checking my pheasants and snares. I was looking at ether the armsan or the escort. What do you guys think ? I've got £500 max to spend. Was hoping to buy new if possible so there's nothing to worry about. Any advice ? I will be going to scone palace gamefair next sunday for a look round about. Will be used for pigeons and foxes mostly and the odd rabbit also so need something to handle loads from 28g to 42g. Thanks Andrew
  25. Hi lads, Iv'e just got some fresh stalking. Not shot for over 10 years but the farmer has got into the willow growing business and wants rid of the deer completely. Iv'e got loads of molasses that i mix in my pheasant food on the syndicate I do the keepering for. Iv'e been told sheep nuts mixed with molasses and put in a clearing with a good back stop works. Never heard of this before have you ? Also heard of roe loving peanut butter ?? Got a few salt blocks down but was wanting to try some other stuff too. Any ideas welcome and any advice on the above methods as i can get loads of sheep nut
