    I have real trouble believing that you posses and work either dogs or ferrets. Do yourself a favour and either do some research or pin your ears back and listen to folk that know more than you do on the subject, you've had ferrets a couple of years and you only got a dog a couple of months ago as a trained adult off here.     I think if you want a very good dog you need to narrow it down a bit, at least to a type of terrain or maybe form of hunting. If that makes sense. I would say for where we are a versitile dog would take a different shape to one in somewhere with fields and thats flat. Does that make any sense?

    Fairplay if it works for you But we are not talking about a big feast, just a bit of grub before we go, and a diet of fresh rabbit. Yer they kill sometimes, but not often, and if they do we dig and put the bunny in the bag. But feeding them dry is in my opinion MORE likely to result in kills and feeding. I like a good size jill, that will bolt it, but if it wont bolt, wont get f****d about and will just bottle it up and kill it, and move on.

    We do estates, most keepers don't mind them, and many have them, it's not the dog they have a problem with, it's usually the guy attached to it. Mind you, saying that, there are just some nasty b*****ds about.

    Fishing "flies" like a muddler or catswhiskers is just spinning with a fly rod, so one lure at a time is enough.     Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) is a risk to ferrets, from contact with bodily fluids (snot and eye discharge) & urine & faeces of infected animals. Domestic cats seem to be immune but unvaccinated dogs can transmit the disease, as can foxes. CDV will generally be fatal to ferrets, slight chance of survival if treatment given early enough, but highly unlikely. You can vaccinate your ferrets against CDV, lasts for about a year, maybe 2 years. No real answer as the vaccine isn't designed for ferrets. Only drawback is the vaccine can also be fatal for ferrets due to an anaphylactic shock

If your in desperate need of going ferreting to keep the numbers down, to keep permission, to me it suggests one of a number of things. Either - - It's permission you have just got in summer and so need to make a sudden and visible impact. - You're doing a pretty poor job over winter and need to take a look at what you are doing and what you promise. - You have too much land and over stretched yourself, again making promises you can not keep. Discuss.

    please explain Dave The guy is obviously an amateur ferreter so i'm guessing he isn't licensed and trained to use gas. SO i think 'gassing' them is probably the very last method of control that he should employ. As for ferreting - not exactly efficient at this time of year.
