  1. :welcomeani: mate. I've got a 10/22 (Volquartsen) and they are pretty reliable and very accurate... the mags can be a bit of a pain mind you. Sounds like you have a nice patch. Happy hunting :thumbs-up:
  2. Thanks bud Sourcing the lighter bullet seems to be a bit tricky but i'll keep on looking.
  3. --> QUOTE(john b @ Nov 22 2006, 03:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Teejay is your man for bodygripping LocalYokel. he's had a few threads on here, the latest one was a few weeks ago http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=15345 nice one johnb,
  4. I've never tried these but they look pretty good... how do they compare to the mk6 fenn? you wouldn't fit one in that space.
  5. Try one of these mate... called a tick twister. Should cost about a fiver from any pet shop.
  6. When i was in NZ we went hunting pigs with a .243 but looking back i'm thankful we didn't see any! (narrow game paths through thick gorse and scrub... you get the picture ) As mentioned earlier .270 is the min cal and for a good reason as they look like solid buggers... I know there has been a fair bit of debate on guys using dogs on the UK feral pig / boar.. whatever... I have never used dogs so i'm completely ignorant on this but when in NZ the dogs i saw used for this work. Like all pigs dogs / bullx's ect they would need to be solid and hearty but they would also need to know what th
  7. 187 yrds... have you stopped grinning yet?
  8. Thanks for the reply bud. Its not killing them that worries me ... i'm just not sure whether the cartridge be explosive enough to not have too much carry on the other side. Some of these 222, 22-250, .243 ect have a wider selection for thin skinned 'varmints' and im not sure if the 85 grain round will hot enough.
  9. I'm thinking about getting a rifle in this caliber to use as a combination gun for deer, target and occasionally... fox . From what i have researched, the cartridge has a good ballistic co-efficient... making it accurate for target shooting, a high sectional density... allowing it to hit above its weight to a certain extent for stalking purposes and a wide range of ammunition from 85-160 grains . I'm pretty happy with the deer and target aspect but what do you think about shooting foxs with it? Surely if i use an 85 grain ballistic tip at decent velocity it should be ok???? I'm thinking 'vi
  10. Christ this pic brings back memories!... hope those wellies are a snug fit!
  11. i tend to use 7's over decoys as, ideadlly, you know where your killing area is and you can get a thicker pattern over that 30-35 yrd range... For most other stuff i use 6's and keep a couple of bb's in the belt for Charley. As far a the equipment goes... ten cheep shell decoys and ANYTHING that will get a bit of movement in the pattern whether its a bouncer or an improvised flapper made out of garden canes, wire mesh and fishing line! (...and something to sit on).
  12. ... why shoot them just to leave them, some wankers out there. second that... shows no respect for their quarry or fellow hunters... they should be ashamed
  13. They will be fine to work mate even if they are a bit 'big boned'... as long as they are not so big that you need a terrier collar New a guy who had a polecat he called Tyson and he was more like a mink ... he was the best he had. I saw a full grown rabbit trying to scramble out of a bolt hole and Tyson dragged him back in by one leg screaming... not that this is actually a good thing but he was a powerful and tireless worker. They may have a few problems getting through the purse nets...
  14. hi why do you soak the net in warm water as ived started to make my own hemp nets and have never heard of doing this cheers I found it made the knots shrink and tighten as they dried.
  15. Its been a very mild autumn as well mate... may be a few late litters still kicking around. If your only 50 squid shy of a mk3 it may pay just to wait til payday. I've never used line ferrets as it always looked like too much work as well as stuffing the bury up for later on in the season... not to mention the risk of losing the wee fella.
  16. got to agree with james b,get some hemp or spun nylon as its so easier to knit and alot easier to use and handles better than 4oz and 6oz nylon whilst ferreting.i am going to make some spun nylon nets next year as it saves you having to dry the hemp nets after every outing when the grounds wet even though i dont mind doing so. Never made nylon nets as i always thought the knots would slip ... never tried mind you so probable my own ignorance I have a couple of shop bought nylon nets as back up if doing a large bury but they are a right b*****d for picking up anything and tangling up
  17. I've always made my nets out of hemp and they really are a piece of piss to do and you don't need to have dexterous hands to do it. I always make sure the end is anchored to something heavy so that i can get nice tight knots... when finished i just stretch the finished net and soak it in warm water then dry it.
  18. Great stuff bud... you must be just as stoked as he is!

    ANTIS SPIT

I copped all sorts of abuse about 'digging foxes out an earth' when i was was ferreting from some wooley hatted, striding stick brandishing rambler . Tried to be nice, explain what i was doing and be non-confrontational as i hadn't had permission long and didn't want to rock the boat. Bitch went to the bloke and told him i'd been rude and aggressive! and i damn near lost the ground... so much for being polite!
  20. I started off with two albino hobs purely because they were easy to see if they tried to go AWOL . If you're only getting a couple and don't go out that often you can buy a special dried ferret food and suppliment this with fresh meat whenever you can. The 'season' depends on what the weather has been like. mid to late Autumn and Winter is best because, ideally, the rabbits should have stopped breeding, got to a worthwhile size and the ground softened. The last thing you want is for the ferret to find a nest, chow down the kits and decide to have a kip under rock hard ground. Try a
  21. Been trying to get hold of this for ages! Thanks
  22. Got a patch in Dorchester, thick with them last year but now hardley anything . Been up there quite frequently and there have been no signs of mixy. Its certainly not me thinning them out! Was planning on snaring round there as the roads make shooting too dangerous and now they all bloody gone! There's fecking badgers everywhere and i can't help thinking they've had something to do with it Anyone else got more badgers than rabbits on their patch or am i the unluckiest bloke here
  23. Good effort mate... hope they did all bolt cos digging round that tree could turn into a right pain in the arse.
