  1. Are they 100% wind proof and water proof?
  2. I've ordered a pair of Seeland Keeper trousers earlier on and they should be here tomorrow morning. Do any of the members on here have them? Are they decent quality? Are they worth the £105?
  3. As previously mentioned. When we're catching up we use a big 20 foot by 10 foot long and 6 foot high lot of checken wire mesh pannals with a pop-hole in one side. When we catch up our birds we don't have a (mesh) roof on it and we have the door open on it and we keep it like that untill the morning we want to catch but we keep feeding inside the traps so the birds can get in and out, then we put the roof on and close the door and then when we check them later on in the day there are normally a fair few pheasants in there. If you want to do this, put the roof on in the dark in the morning you w
  4. Can you just do one thing if you don't do anything else? That is accept other peoples advice about dog training or you will cock up big time. First of all get him into a dog training class and get him well socialised with other dogs and get him knowing who is his master. If you can't afford it then try and see if you can get into any very cheap terrier clubs and if you still can't afford it, then a dog is definately not for you. Good luck, but don't ruin the dog.
  5. I don't agree with ratting with Ferrets for the following reasons: The ferrets go down into the rat hole and get covered in diseases etc, If the ferret gets bitten by the rat it could cause Wheels Disease, then these may well be passed on to you when you come into contact. Rats do smash ferrets up and give them a good thrashing. If you have the slightest bit of respect for your ferrets, you wouldn't work them down rat holes.
  6. I think that you will f**k up this dog unless you start taking peoples advice onboard. It boils my piss to know that people have offered you help and you didn't take it and didn't turn up. All the best with the pup but I do think you're better off you having a gold fish.
  7. It's harder to cage trap rabbits then what you may think, especially if you have a shortage of them! On a local estate, a line of 100 cages we normally get one or two rabbits a day, and they're baited with carrots. Isn't trapping and releasing pests illegal? Correct me if I am worng. As the landlord has a legal obligation to control the rabbits, so releasing them would be breaking this legal obligation,
  8. You need five GCSEs at grade 'C' or above to get into Sparsholt College for the GameKeeping and Wildlife Managment course.
  9. FightTheBan, I think you're giving the lad the wrong advice. He will be very lucky to find an apprenticeship in this day and age. As I have previously said if they both had the same sort of experience. You will be lucky to get into Sparsholt College as it's the best in the country for GameKeeping. If you would take the time to read what I had previously said, I would appreciate it.
  10. Thats a very bold statement saying most employers go straight to sparsholt! I wouldn't. Plenty still think experience and a personal reccomendation come before bits of paper from a college. I'm not saying some qualifications aren't important and the atv, chain saw, pest control courses etc definately help. Before signing up to a full time course I would look into getting a placement for an NVQ or at the very least spend as much spare time as you can helping a local keeper. It is a bold statment but it is also very true. If you were a Head Keeper on an estate and two candidates applied
  11. Go to Sparsholt college, apply for their GameKeeping course. There are plenty of jobs Keeper orientated around but it's by word of mouth. Most employers go straight to Sparsholt college for their young employees and that is a fact because it is the best college in the country for GameKeeping and Wildlife Managment, Vetinary Nursing and Fisherie Managment. The new GameKeeping unit they have there is amazing, it is better then most estates.
  12. This is a controversial issue and personally I hope you understand the demand that a bird of prey needs. They need an awful lot of time spent with them and training them, you need to weigh them regularly and before you go out to fly them, you need to train them to fly and then come back which you will need a creonce. It is very hard work to keep a bird of prey and you need to understand the amount of work and time they take. They are also expensive. If you want my advice, it's don't bother getting one untill you get your own place and have been on plenty of falconry courses and have read alot
  13. I have never heard of this 'Law' either. I would have thought the autorities would be attempting to pursue people for poaching offences if there was alot of people feretting the road side banks. I would be greatful to know the outcome of the Email.
  14. If someone gives you the offer to go with them please make sure you take an adult with you as I have read alot of the posts on here and there are some dodgy people floating about so take a parent with you or a responsible adult.
  15. With out a doubt it is definitely the MK3. The MK1 gets intercepted by electric fences, power lines etc. MK3s are easy to use, but you just have to have a dedicated read through the instructions.
  16. You can get them Jill Jabbed by the Vets to take them out of season too.
  17. You can get them Jill Jabbed by the Vets to take them out of season too.
  18. You can get them Jill Jabbed by the Vets to take them out of season too.
  19. I use traps when we get Mouse problems but after I have trapped for a while I let the Ferrets have a stroll around and that always seems to work but I don't know about using them for Rats.
  20. Glad to see there are more young ones getting into the sport. Nice bag too.
