is it the dogs fault for jacking through lack of heart and confidence, or is it the owners fault for regularly out classing the dog on hopeless slips in the hope it pulls it off. If a dog keeps being slipped on something he can't catch surely he will lose heart and confidence

can anyone advise me, looking at getting a new ferret finder. Now i've seen a deben mk2 with 2 collars for around the same price as i can pay for a mk3 with one collar. If i go for the mk2 i can work 2 ferrets and if i lose or damage a collar i've still got one i can use, where as if i go for a mk3 and lose or damage the collar i'm up the swanney because i would'nt be able to replace it straight away. Any advice on either?

i used to work a jrt with my lurcher. Was'nt to bad in the field, but the problems were at home. She'd snap at everything, always having a go at the lurcher, snap at the kids if they got to close and generaly a moody little bitch. very loyal though, but don't think i'd bother again. Probably my fault though was my first and only terrier so might not have trained her properly

f*****g sicko's, not only is it an outrages thing to do to a dog, but you just know that there will be people tarring us all with the same brush :wankerzo4:

i think a lot of dogs go through this stage, i know mine did. i carried a bag of small treats and whenever he returned to me i would give him a treat, and i use to call him back reguler for no reason than to give him a treat and some fuss. I also used a whistle which worked great and even now if i shout him he sornters over, where as if i blow a whistle he'll break his neck to get to me. I bought an ' long lead which is useful but take a lot of getting used too. I also found that like yours, he'd refuse to come back to me when we'd finished our walk. I realised i put him on the lead in the s

Eager for the weather to clear up ?
andyrose replied to Tally Ho Hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
still got 2' of snow here with a nice crust of ice on top so mostly road work, typical, i'm a gardener so can't work, all the time in the world and unable to work him just my luck -
ive got the shed insulated with polystirene and hardboard, then put 2 bales of straw (still intact) down, then a couple of rugs and a quilt on top, this keeps him 18" off the floor. Mind you i've got a poodle x, with a realy thick coat, so he does'nt feel it so much. Have'nt seen him shiver once in the 14 months ive had him. Just give him extra food and a bit off meat dripping on top, and make sure he gets brushed down regular, helps keep a layer of warm air in his fur

i would'nt worry about that if i was you lol

i use a length of 1" webbing strap with a net ring sown in each end, just make a loop and slip over the heads. if you've only got 1 rabbit loop over head and feet

i don't think anyones complaining about people having the right to protest, i think what people are upset about is the fact that by burning a giant poppy, there actualy burning the memory of soldiers who died for there country be they christian, muslim, jews or hindus...... which to me is pretty f.....g sick

what to bath cuts and grazes?
andyrose replied to andyrose's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
cheers guy's, salt water looks to be doing the trick -
out with the lurcher tonight for a walk and the pillocks flew over the edge of a banking and came a cropper at the bottom. he's cut his rear pad on one front leg and cut and grazed the front of his ankle joint on the other. The cuts are'nt massive but enough to need bathing, i've always bathed any cuts etc in warm salt water, which i've done tonight. but can anyone recomend anything else?

got her retreving out the water now
andyrose replied to poacherman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
my poodle x loves it, and at 10 months he probably retrieves better from water than land. He's just getting the hang of keeping paddling when picking up the dummy, before he'd stop paddling and grab the dummy just before vanishing under. A bit worrying at first lol -
good news indeed , makes you worry about your own when it happens so close to home. Any news on who or why ?

cheers guys, i think i'll give straw a blast, and possibley see about some quilt covers off the carboot. Vetbed sounds good, but in all honesty if i spent £110 on bedding for the dog, the wife would go ballistic and no doubt i'd be cuddling up with the dog lol. But thanks for the advice atb andy

hi folks, i'm looking for a cheep bedding for my 9 month old pup. At the minute i've got him on a cushion type pet bed, but he's emptied it of stuffing. Don't want to keep paying £7 pound a pop everytime he fancies doing this. Was thinking of bedding him on straw, any good? any other advice appreciated

hi guys a few months back my boss's parents bought a manchester terrier, it's probably 3 or 4 month old and has a beautiful shape about it, i know they were originally worked, but i wondered if anyone had worked or seen one worked, or maybe seen a lurcher with mt in it's blood. or is it just another breed with it's working past firmly left in the past?

ye you cant beat a good half cross i like your dog bird did you breed him yourself? is he quick off the mark for daytime rabbits mate? Hi mate, he was bred local by a lad by me. Yes he is very quick of the mark, there is a few on here that have seen him run, and he fast for a 1x colliexgrey. He as good wind and great agilty, he really dont miss much. id believe it, he really looks well. a good collie is hard to beat,he looks durable too, youl get a good few seasons out of him id say(injury wise).with half working collie he must have great recovery.does he ever stalk on the lamp
