  1. I tell ya ,pals, well... next month I deploy to the Horn of Africa for 15 months. As such, I sold off all of my fast dogs as it would just be too much for my wife and daughter to care for.And they need to be hunted. My wife loves to hunt coyotes with our fast dogs, but she just won't have the time by herself. I was thinking about what I was going to put in my kennels when I return and between what I have learned as Vargy's protege of sorts and from you guys here...I'm already contacting Patterdale breeders for when I return. I think I've been missing out using Patts as a very viable coon dog.
  2. DnN, The hides do not need to be tanned to be sold...just 'put-up', generally. I'll explain that if need be. The raw, wild fur market is like the US Dollar. In the crapper. But still, most of us still like the finished product of wild fur and will sell anyway. Maybe buy a pack of gum with the proceeds.
  3. A good friend of mine from up in Iowa had posted these pics and I thought I'd share them with you. Vargy's total take was 63 coons in 2 weeks using his patts, Fox terriers, and such. Pretty impressive numbers.
  4. I generally just show up with 'em...I wouldn't recommend it for everyone or every situation; but it works for us.Kind of. Besides...who doesn't love puppys ?
  5. Kind of...they are pretty good. I like alligator and turtle better, but rattler isn't bad.
  6. Hadn't even considered that ....good point. Guess I could use a pair of mongoose instead ( mongoose plural.. mongeese ? mongi ? )
  7. I never have ,mate. Nor do I know anyone who has , at least not personally. I know of some guys in New Mexico who have had dogs get bit, and the dog recovered after being very ill for awhile. I have had pointers go on point on them before. That's always disturbing.
  8. During quail season , most of the ones I come across are real lethargic from the cold nights and will barely move ...they just lay there in the sun. Thank God. You could probably pick 'em up without much of a reaction, I wont; but someone probably could. That's about the only time I ever see them. Not during the Spring turkey season , September dove season, or while fishing . I'm OK with that. We actually have a season on them here and they are classified as a game animal. They are harvested from dens in early Spring.
  9. I hate Mr. No-Shoulders...depsite the fact their are alot of them here I rarely see 'em except during the early part of quail season. I can't imagine running into this hive. Rumored that they came out of an abandoned cellar in South Texas.
  10. why is it a pointless racist thread ?...are we not allowed to discuss who we do and dont like for risk of offending somebody....thats half the trouble we are all so much constantly being told to be tolerant we are giving up our own morals and beliefs....to the point where if we dare open our mouth and say we dont like a certain segment of the population we are termed racists. as for white chavs etc.....to me...i am far more tolerant of a white yob than a black/brown yob simply because this is predominantly a white country....now to a dogooder thats racist to me its common sense....a pakistani
  11. As I live and breathe .... Brits listening to Johnny Cash and Willie. Much respect...
  12. To get the most out of your gundog , it should be a "pet". IMO. All day, everday is a training day when they live with you.
  13. Prison is a pretty good place to get one....
  14. I'll post pic of my new design when I get it finished ...it's a deadfall only it doesn't kill 'em outright . More like a switch on a spring that repeatedly whips them until I get a chance to check it. Figure that'd be appropriately cruel.
  15. Hell of a good job, Scott .... well done and good pics.
  16. If at first you don't suceed...lower your expectations. She had a face that'd make a train take a dirt road.
  17. I wannna go ! I wanna go !!! Excellent stuff guys... good times.
  18. That really surprises me as my Airedale has incredible stamina: she'll run with the lurchers all day and never looks tired. I know that she's nowhere near fast enough to run down a healthy rabbit on top, but her work ethic is unstoppable exactly...
  19. Not for nothing ...but why cross the two ? An Airedale is an exceptional dog, and a greyhound is great at what he does ... why feck with it ?
  20. That would've been funny... 15 years ago. I've gotta trick with a pick axe handle that's the quickest I've ever seen.
  21. Fact of the matter is ,Unfit (to be on a hunting forum,I might add), is that you are such a narcist that you'd rather see coyotes walk around like this as opposed to being trapped. Frozen and starved to death and unusable. See a shrink.
