everyone needs a good rant once in a while mate, and to be fair I agree, the countrymans weekly has been going downhill for a while, I stopped buying it months ago, when I realised that I had spent two pounds and not got anything from it apart from a little bit of fun window shopping for lurchers at the back. that bobbery pack one got me too, what a joke. the countrymans should get rid of pretty much all their writers, and swap them for actual hunters of today. and it doesn't half f**k me off reading the occasional hancock article, I mean if i liked the stink of bull shit i would go roll about

ok technical question, how do you apply the coffee to the paper, do you pour it and wipe it with a finger or tissue, or do you use a brush? i really like the style of drawing and would love to try and recreate it. congratulations on some stunning pictures. atb hh

happy hunting mate, i was hoping to get out today aswell, been too long, but its gonna have to be a while longer methinks. -
i got a nice hunting knife, fixed blade very comfy handle, very solid, should last me a long time, and a hip flask to keep me warm next time i'm out.

I was out with the family an hour or so ago, just walking the mutt through the woods, two bloody huge Alsatians come out of nowhere and put griff on his back instantly, (he is a very submissive dog around other dogs - especially Alsatians) the bloke was walking over but dead slow, and I mean dead slow, while me and my dad tried to grab the more aggressive dogs collar, most people would shift the moment their dog goes for someone elses, but no, this guy just ambled over like it was nothing, anyway, griff got up and moved away towards me and dad, trying to get behind us, and the bigger of the tw

didnt a frenchy create myxy, or at least introduce it to europe? that might explain the low rabbit numbers in france... but i have heard good things about hunting boar and deer with dogs. hadnt realised that the french were so against lurchers, can anyone tell us a bit more about the laws regarding the use of them? are they more strict than over here? just seems a surprise that the french would have banned it, since they are as keen on hunting as the brits and generally far less squeamish, they eat frogs and snails ffs. happy christmas everyone, i got the hunting knife i wanted, as well as

did you squeak a collie in?

In all fairness I dont think anyone is putting a downer on your hunt, "shooting" one of the most awsome running machines in deep snow just would not be everyones bag.......it certainly would not be mine especially in an area that does not have a good population of Hares to start with. Nothing personal, just the threads been put up for comment so thats what folk are doing......you crack on if thats what rocks your boat. YIS, WILF wilf a bit of a c ock really. agreed.

we do have them here, maybe not quite in the same form, but we have plenty of big game dogs. after all the yank dogs are originally imported arent they, so somewhere along the line our dogs have the same blood. i saw a lurcher at a fair a while back, as big as a deerhound (saw quite a few of those about too) and apparently doing well enough on rabbits and everything else. owner wasnt bragging, just telling it how it was. i doubt the usa dogs are much bigger, and if they are then they would struggle at being allrounders. well bred beddy grey for me....maybe a pair of them....

its turks mate dog now best ask him how many homes has this dog had i was thinking the same thing - wtf, dog cant be all that good to have been passed around so much... atb hh

i want the ban lifted because i see it as an infringment of my liberties - but the tories wont lift it, the tories wont do us any good, they have got our vote by saying that they might possibly make an attempt at maybe repealing the ban....doesnt sound very commited to me, i'm voting lib dem, because the two things i feel strongly about are hunting and the legality of pot - never been proven to be harmful etc - the number of people smoking pot has increased, whereas the number of people becoming schitsophrenic has dropped. hmmm, fact is people, we have been lied to by the powers that be since

lurchers are being crossed with pit bull or staffordshire terriers for more stamina and strength - hmmm, although i know of good bull x's that take deer regularly we all know the only reason they made a mention of those breeds was becuase it makes everything sound worse to the general public, the papers and the cops in this country are a joke.

one of my mates has a labradoodle (pet) its fast as f**k, crossed to something with a bit more prey drive and it would do alrite. like has been said, dont knock a dog till you have seen it work. gamekeepers used to keep gundog crosses and yet everyone on here slags the idea of them. if you havent seen it you cant complain - although in my opinion they should'nt be sold as workers or for any more than £50 most likely an accidental mating and the guy is trying to make some money back, but he should'nt be touching triple figures with untested crosses. atb wbk

mixture of the two mate - thats generally how i do it, photo's are great for inspiration and to get proportion right, but you dont want to work from them alone, imo it doesnt take much skill to copy a photo. but i dont begrudge anyone the use of them for guidance etc... as said before - very nice pics, hopefully get some of mine up at some point. (different style to yours though)

seems to have been a bad week or so for working lurchers. something in the air maybe... sorry bout the dog mate, fully gutted for everyone who has lost a dog recently. not pleasant.

true. bought ten nets the other day, going to have to start my two young hobs out soon, they are getting fat. thankfully a mate of mine has all the kit i need and i should be able to borrow it or go out with him like i have done the past few years. nets are expensive and a locator seems to cost the earth, so have to wait for my first paycheck from my new job to come through, then hopefully i will be able to splash out on a bit more kit. before then i am going to let them have a run in an isolated small bury, just looking for the right spot - dont want to lose them on their first trip out.

Another season another tragedy

god thats sad. to have to watch the dog like that, god knows what the best thing to do would be, but at least you got one back. and that one lived on for a while longer, not a good way to go - bitten by a teammate like that. but at least you didnt lose them both down the well, i think that would tear me up badly. -
aint too bad down this way, i'm in exeter, few mates have had the odd issue, nothing serious though, it aint the bill you have to watch for, its grumpy landowners. but they rarely get the old bill involved, happier to just give you a good hiding (verbal or physical)... if i had a dog i would be happy to go for a mouch mate, but since i am still stuck at home its the parents rules still - despite turning 20 a month back! they dont want another dog in the house....not while we have the collie x springer (and although he has caught the odd bunny in cover, he is not a worker - also a bit too o

it was ok, simon whitehead was a laugh and the glass blowing demonstration was pretty damn cool, the lure coursing (although for any dog) had a few good runners, and the falconry was sound. all in all an alright day out - even my sister enjoyed it. i saw alot of nice dogs, and was surprised that so few people entered there lurchers into the coursing, some of the dogs i saw about looked like they could really shift. anybody else go along? what did you think? atb hh

are they drawn from photos or memory - or a mix of the two?

nice mate - i keep meaning to scan some of mine in and put them up. never seem to get round to it. anyway very nice sketches, my favourite is the last one, but the second one is great, not sure whats wrong with the first one - if anything - but i dont like it as much. they are all good though and you obviously have talent. hope you draw many more excellent sketches.
