  1. Even if you overlook the poaching, and the legalities of poaching with a gun etc. I can't understand why anyone would want to shoot a deer and just leave it there. Presumably they'll have left it so they don't have a deer in the car if they get pulled up on the way home? or were on foot so couldn't take it? either way...just don't shoot it to begin with, pointless! or at the very least drive home and drop your gun off and then go back to get it without guns/dogs etc. At least then you could say you found it at the side of the road. There's no wonder hunters have a bad name in some peopl
  2. Speak now or forever hold your peace. I've wasted enough of my time already pal....you know better than everyone else. Stop coming across all shitty now Rob. I don't think I know better than anyone else and you know full well I don't. I just don't need a weather man to tell me it's pissing down. Read your own posts Gaz, that's exactly how you come across....I can only speak for how you come across on here. So, because you've been a member on here for a few years it means you must be right? Even people who've been in the game longer than you've been alive don't usually have that

  4. I can't remember the last time my bitch went on a lead. She follows me to tesco 2 mile down the road and then sits outside waiting for me Someone will be away with it one day..... And I might get hit by a bus you seriously have no idea how many scum bags are walking about pal!!! there are people that walk about looking for thieving opportunities....you're leaving a dog outside a shop that a scummer could breed and pump out a litter worth hundreds in no time, they're not arsed that it's your pride and joy, trust me! no point being all cocky about it and then in a few months time sti
  5. I can't see you poaching his land though mate........its always raining in Scotland. That's a point. Crosssing it off my list now. I wouldn't poach anywhere with a gun though. Ages ago I used to go for a wander with an air rifle......and then I read if you get caught you will get done for armed trespass, decided that's not really worth having on your record for the sake of a couple of pigeons
  6. I could call mine off a rabbit but absolutely no chance with a cat, nearly takes my flamin arm off when one runs out! So do you think your dog lacks heart because you can call it off a rabbit? Fitchet does. This was what I wanted the thread to be discussing. Not wether my dog will get stolen from tesco not sure in full flight to be honest, probably not, never had a reason to try. When she's just starting I have done a few times....mainly when we're at the local park and there's some old biddy watching rather than in a dangerous situation

  10. Does your dog not react to cats Gaz? mine would probably walk to heal walking down the road but if a cat ran across she'd be on it before I could even react. I would never in a million years risk walking along a road with a lurcher off the lead.
  11. Surely you've been on here long enough to know. . . . . . . never under estimate the capacity of human stupidity. . . . i have been on here long enough not to take everything i read at face value both scenarios are equally ridiculous and equally likely!

    Fangs

I think you're pretty fooked in either case tbh pal
  13. pretty much as most of it comes natural to them....as long as they're comfortable being handled it's fairly plain sailing I prefer bolting them for the dog for the first session or two to get them used to passing through warrens, getting picked up as they exit etc.....and then have a session with the nets to get them used to them, rather than trying to get them used to everything at the same time. aye, step by step. i think i may start with one and once i get the hang of it then i can get more. otherwise its just another pet yeah probably best....just remember to start with 3 o

    Fangs

Have you ever seen fangs this big?? it's on a Kangal....wouldn't want that hanging off my arse!!!
  15. shoot someone because they're poaching your land....good idea! ambush someone who has a gun in the dark....even better idea!
  16. I got ticks on my ferrets every time I got sawdust or hay from Tesco! Started getting it from Home Bargains for a quarter the price and hardly ever get them now! Give them a good clean out and try hay and sawdust from another shop pal.

  18. Anyone successfully take on a rescue dog as a busher? Rescues are fully of terriers and you often hear on here "most terriers will enter cover". I've seen at least two or three none working stock terriers that woudn't enter cover if their lives depended on it though, so I'm a bit sceptical about that claim. I'd be interested to see how many people have taken on a rescue and turned it into a good busher, and equally how many people have taken on a rescue (terrier) that's been about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Obviously being a good busher is not just about entering the cover, but you
  19. Has anyone heard of anyone using dogs like this for bushing? I'm not really sure what the original purpose of the Irish Terrier is to be honest, I was always under the impression that they're a bit on the big side for ground work? a bit too leggy? so if ground work is not their purpose then presumably bushing/ratting is? but you rarely hear of them being used....maybe because for all jobs there are better options out there? And the fox terrier was presumably bred for working fox underground? but again has lost favour to better, more suited types? I like the look of both dogs
  20. Stick at her pal, I got an albino once and she was a right tw't, every time I picked her up she would literally go mental trying to bite me, a bit like you'd expect a wild animal to be like. She was like that for a good three weeks even with constant handling, I honestly thought she was a lost cause....and then all of a sudden she clicked and was soft as a brush. Was always a bit nippy with people she wasn't used to but with me she was bob on. Never had one so bad in the beginning, I can only assume she'd either never been handled, or been handled badly...or even abused some how.
