  1. got sat out on the estuary well befor elight yesterday morning, first pack of mallard that came over were nicely in range but i hadnt loaded the gun so not much use! only had the 1 shot as nothing came close, saw and heard plenty flying about though
  2. ring basc and ask them to send you a wildfowling permit booklet, it has all the information you need, your closest clubs and all other clubs around the country that run permit schemes. you cannot just turn up on the shore and walk around (unless you are in certain parts of scotland!)
  3. Hi Dont know if you have any offers already but i do abit on the foreshore in scotland every year usually visit 1st week in december and last week in january I go just above Aberdeen to Newburgh (Ythan estuary) and usually have a day up at Findhorn bay, usually get a good few shots and come away with a few brace of duck and a few geese, have been visiting for the last 6 years. I am willing to take anyone out, so long as you are safe and sensible as the estuarys and mudflats can be a very dangerous place. the only thing is i havent yet organised and finalised my trip..i will mo
  4. Yes it is my first season wildfowling, I have joined South Lincolnshire Wildfowlers Club, in fact I have just had a large envelope delivered today by postie with maps, info on the club, marsh warden card etc. I am trying to get to grips with the correlation between tides, times, moon and wind, not like just chucking a few pigeon decoys in the boot. I have offers to take me out on Kirton marsh which I will be taking up but if anyone in the club goes on the marsh at Wainfleet and would take me out then I would take them up on the offer as well. Hcc I will be out on the humber estu
  5. he would of been shooting behing when using clear pigeons, trap cartridges are faster its not the cartridges, its the person pointing the gun clear pigeon are not s**t cartridges, they will and do kill 7 n half 28 grams is just disrepespect for your quarry and gives shooters a bad name
  6. this is how far the pellet may travel but not the range you should be shooting at living animals!
  7. 12 would give you most range. but it shouldnt be about who can shoot the furthest, it should be about who can bring them the closest trust me, you will feel you have accomplished more if you can bring the quarry to you rather than just shooting at long ranges, plus the fact that you are risking injuring alot of what you shoot at and thats just disrespectful!! any of the guns above will kill a pigeon with the right load and within a distance... if you want the longest range then get a 4 bore, but you wont want to be shooting that all day long and there wont be much left of a pigeon!
  8. Do you ever fish from hawsker mate? I hsve done a fair bit up there, good fishing grounds!
  9. chopped up pototoes are even better and crab apples...even better as they are free
  10. Used them couple of year back, not too bad at all... used to pay about £140 for a 1000, similar to clear pigeon.. i did change to clear pigeon for a while but really didnt get along with them so went back to kents! i will stick with them until they stop making them
  11. Is it your first season? Where will you be shooting?
  12. kent velocity 30g/32g 6's i pay about £185 for 1000 they do the job perfectly... and they dro drop the bigger stuff 2!!
  13. all depend son what suits you, your best bet would be to go to a clay ground and have a go with a few different 1s and see what you prefer i have semi auto with 28inch barrels for shooting pigeons, purely for the reason you dont have to break the barrels to load so can load in confined spaces (such as the hide) i use the semi auto for ducks and geese as it takes bigger cartridges i use over and under and side by side for game shooting depending where i am and how high the driven birds are! i have used side by side/over and under/semi and pump on pigeons and rabbits, in the hide, roug
  14. are these brand new? where abouts in northeast are you? could i collect?
  15. my mate had a collie he rescued from a kennels when she was about 4, we used her lamping and when ferreting, she had a good turn off speed and caught many rabbits and rats for us. when my mate got a lurcher we took the collie out with it and used her to show the young un what to do
  16. the birds have to feed at somepoint during the day so yes i usually do bit of rain never hurt noone
  17. this is the main reason i use the 12 most but i have had big bags over decoys with 20bore and 28 bore, less range but still do the job i use 28 bore for partridge shooting and use 20 for driven pheasant 12 gauge is the workhorse, it is cheapest to use and cheapest to buy i have also decoyed pigeons with a .410 you could even use a 4 bore if u so desire they will all kill pigeons, pheasant etc at the right range but for an all round gun you simply cant beat the 12bore, especially if you are on a tight budget! if money allows and you are small and not so strong then
  18. sunk island, humber estuary, will be out on the mud somewhere trying to get a nice plump duck
  19. you on pigeonwatch by any chance?? i am checking tide times, watching flightlines and keeping my eye in with shooting pigeons! cleaned up all the deeks and put new lines on them, got some weights made and i am ready for action bring on the 1st!
  20. its not about what your shooting over, just find the birds and shoot them whereever possible, i have shot on ploughed fields where volunteer rubbish is coming through, have shot over grass/clover, standing and harvested wheat,barley,peas,beans,potatoes,linseed,setaside,maize... just find where they are feeding and get some decoys out.. oh and its best to start shooting over it when there is a nice number of pigeons there you cant just turn up when the crop is at a certain stage, stick decoys out and expect big bags...do some reccy'ing, a good few hours every week pays off
  21. haha well said and cant wait myself, good old fat albino does the job for me
  22. have seen foxes dropped by 30gram 6's in a 20bore but i would use 35-50gram 4-3's
  23. hi it depends wether you mean true wildfowling out on the muddy estuarys and boggy m,arshlands, miles from civilisation or do you just mean shooting at ducks/geese anywhere if its the latter i am sure you could get across a dry stubble field where geese are feeding and sort a suitable hide..or get a lift on a quad to the edge of a flightpond and sit awaiting the ducks arrival but as for the coastal part of it, i dont think that would be too easy...unless you get yourself a boat, get a mate who can help you into the boat and then your away..providing you have permission to shoot fro
