    wet gear

well forget wjat i said then, i was talking about wildfowling gear seen as this is the wildfowling section for walking through cover crop (beating/rough shooting!?) i have some mouflon plus boots, cheap gaiters with wax over trousers and a gadwall jacket if its cold
  2. you will be prett much stumped on cartridge choice if you get a berry A303 sx3 ar egood guns, but the new maxus does cycle abit quicker and is alot better gun for the money in my opinion! i use an escort, cheap as chips when new and i dont mind if it gets scratched dropped, dingd and the rest of it. look afetr the gun it will look after you. no matter what gun i have had i have always spent 10 minutes cleaning it before it goes back in the cabinet after a day out. do this with a hatsan and regularly change the o-ring and you should have no problems (bags of 100+ O-rings can be bought f

    wet gear

it all depends on how much you want to spend and where you will be going! i have an old tan brown coloured wax jacket (£45 from a local country clothing shop 4 years ago) i use that when i am out on the mud on estuarys if in the green reeds/marshes or hides i wear a rivers west eider jacket (£180 last year).... both are great coats, keep me dry and hidden, if it gets really cold i put on an extra base layer or 2! i have always gone for cheap waders..5mm neoprene ones... chest waders i have were £40 last season off ebay and have some thigh ones i got 2 year ago for £35 off ebay.
  4. i think you meen acres.................... I think you mean, mean. Leave the youth alone at least he is positively contributing to the site and trying to help folk get shooting. what ever................................. wooops haha
  5. i think you meen acres.................... I think you mean, mean. Leave the youth alone at least he is positively contributing to the site and trying to help folk get shooting. well said that man!
  6. i will be sat under a hedge half a mile from a big lake (that i cant shoot over) the mallard have a good flight line and usually a few will be low enough for 2oz of ITM through 10 bore! a brace on opening morning will do nicely!
  7. there is no comparison even in an old 20-30 year old beretta than a bran new escort you ask any gunsmith or rfd what they would choose a well looked after 30 year old berretta or a bran new escort ...I know what most of them would choose as for the beneli vinci has to be one of the ugliest guns out there that kicks like a mule read my previous post i would much rather have a beretta 303 than a new escort IF i didnt do alot of goose flighting on the foreshore unless i could find a suitable (safe) non-toxic cartridge that would go through the beretta they are a much better gun and
  8. how old is that gunthough, they stopped making them a long time ago, you could get a brand new escort with a 3 year garantee for not much more than that, or a bit more and get a baikal mp153 (rugged reliable guns)...remington 11-87, es100, benelli m2, vinci, al391, sx3...get something that will last, something that fits, the options are endless the problem with the beretta a303 as mentioned in previous post is it would be abit dodgy putting alot of steel loads through it you would be mad to put high performance steel through it and you should only use light loads of slow steel through qua
  9. i would much rather have a beretta 303 than a new escort IF i didnt do alot of goose flighting on the foreshore unless i could find a suitable (safe) non-toxic cartridge that would go through the beretta they are a much better gun and hold ther value as for shooting foxes...the majority of foxes shot with shotgun are shot on small game/rough shoots when flushed, more than likely with 30-32g 6's but when i purposely go out for a fox with the shotgun (not often, centrefire is the best tool for the job) i use winchester magnum XX 2 1/4oz buffered shot cracking cartridge that holds grea

  11. i used an escort magnum last season, never had any problem, fired every cartridge i put through it and when pointed in the right direction it did the job winchester sx2 and 3 are good guns, benelli make some great guns an so do berettas. your best bet would be to go to a gun shop that has a good variety and pick them up, pull them to your shoulder, have a good look over them and get the 1 that fits you best plenty of over and unders will now take 3inch magnum steel loads webl;ey and scott 912 pointer 612 cheap guns that do the job if going out on a muddy estuary you will get th
  12. there is plenty of full time professional rabbit catchers in this country long hours, little pay, its a way of life not a 'job'
  13. Solway is still good if all the conditions are right (and if the geese are there!). BUT...it is usually a matter of sitting under big skeins of geese that are way too high for even the big bores...there are plenty of tools that fire at them though Permits are available for shooting on the tweed i think, not sure of cost or if they get many geese thre though!? If you arent already a member of BASC i would suggest you join them and ring up for a wildfowling booklet this will give you a list of all clubs in the country that offer pemits (daily and weekly) and who to contact to apply fo
  14. just get into a B&B up near findhorn and get out on the estuary there no fee to shoot between high and low water mark plenty of geese spend a day walking the area and getting your bairings with tides, roosting areas and flightlines then crack on and have a go
  15. selling as i need cash for the car and will probably not get any time to use it have fired about 90 pellets through it (only had it since week before christmas) seems to be very accurate and has killed a few rabbits and pigeons Date of manufacture 09/2010 i have managed to put a few minor scratches on it when fighting through the dense woods but it is in good cond it has a cheap 4x40 scope on (unsure of make) but it does the job deben silencer will come with half tin of pellets buffalo camo gunslip i also have a cheap extendable bipod that i got given, this will go with the g
  16. Wait for numbers to build and wait till we have a few more frosty mornings, never go after the first frost when they first hit the rape thats what i have always done, keep your eye on it, go different times of day and if they feeding ther throughout the whole day in numbers, find a good flightline and crack on
  17. Staying at me uncles in ABOYNE for a few days, then at a grandads farm near TURIFF for a few days, then a spot up near findhorn for a couple days..then off up cromarty way.
  18. if there is no lnr or nnr crack on
  19. heading upto aberdeenshire to stay with family and do abit of wildfowling with my old fella (end of november/start of december) just wondered if anyone knows of a place to get a cheap flight on ducks as the grandads pond is abit small for 2 to shoot and its quiet as it hasnt been fed this season
  20. plenty about my permissions and plenty been shot..resident birds, they are here most of year wont be long before the migratory ones are here..hold off for a few weeks when they arrive and let them get grubbed up before shooting them again loads of snipe about too but there always is, just got to know where to look
  21. they are very good cartridges, perform very well and are worth the money, if you can afford them! if you use steel get remington nitro..very good carts but again not cheap if you arent lowsing off 100s of cartridges a season then the wallet wont hurt too much!! nasher1...if your gun isnt proofed for steel then i dont think hevi-shot will do it anygood, have heard that it should be treat the same as steel shot, in guns proofed for steel and less than half choke
  22. bag limits? expected bag size/shots? Where exactly is the shooting to take place? I have 2 lads here wanting a go at some duck
  23. they wont be roosting, geese feed during the night and roost in the day (9 times outa 10) will most likely be greylags with canada geese. if they have come to that field in previous years and have done a few times recently you will be hard pressed to get them away from their flightline, i think your best chance would be a good number of decoys and a call, but not a cheap option is there no way the owner of the fields they are landing on would let you have a crack??
  24. some clubs do day or weekly permits and others do intriductory permits... but not all clubs i dont know the clubs nearer you, The booklet should help
