  1. IMPORTANT. VENUE CHANGE Due to the local Rotarians deciding to have a charity bonfire and fireworks display in the field next door I have had to move the venue. The new venue is the; Travellers Friend Crookham Common RG19 8EA 0118 971 3156 See clicky below. MAP OF PUBDirections; From the A4. Head for Thatcham, then follow directions for train station. Go over the trainline and stay on that road. The pub is about 3 miles out on the lefthand side. Good field out the back and we should be able to spot out to about 200 yards. I even have some fox shaped t
  2. Not that I am aware but you could organise one yourself. I got fed up waiting for someone to organise one down south so decided to do it myself.
  3. Of course if you have loads of money you can buy a rifle for each job. But as we are all generally constrained by beer tokens here is my take. 22lr for rabbits out to 60 ish yards. cheap to buy £200 will buy you a good 2nd hand one. Cheap to run. about £5/7 for 50 bullets I think. 17hmr for rabbit out to 150 yards. I have used it on foxes out to 100 yards with my FEO blessing. Feos often prefer the hmr to other calibres because they are less likely to ricochette. Costs twice as much as a .22lr at least to run. If used on foxes you need to be sure of the shot as it has less power than the fol
  4. I have just got off the phone with Nitesite and they are hoping to come down and demo their kit. So that will be interesting for people to have a look at in field conditions and possibly give them some feedback for the mark 2 model. Interestingly this thread has only had 34 views. Is no one here really interested in Night vision?
  5. Ok so lets dip my oar into the water. See if I can muddy things some more. 2 ways to go. Dedicated or Addon. Dedicated means that you cannot use the scope in the day. So if you want to shoot during the day then you need to swap scopes and rezero. You are also tied to the magnification of the scope. mostly 2x or 4x. for your distances should be ok. However it is now winter-ish and certainly all my shooting is at night. Addon. Pushes on to the eyepiece of the scope. Generally unless you are shooting off a bipod you will need to push your scope forward to allow for eye relief. This can then
  6. VENUE CHANGE. PLEASE SEE LATEST POST AT THE END FOR FULL DETAILS I have organised a meeting down my neck of the woods Date; 12th November. Time; 6pm Location; The Travellors Friend RG19 8EA Crookham Common Berkshire. Couple of people already said they will come so looking like we will have a few units to look through from Gen 1 through to Gen 111. For those who have night vision and are happy to show up and display it, it is preferred that they are not attached to a rifle but if you can't take it off, please leave the bolt at home. Safety first so I don't get shouted at as thi
  7. I have one in 17. It is lighter than many out there so ideal for carrying across the fields. The 17 is very accurate but can't comment on the .22. Cracking piece of kit.
  8. Bummer, yeah that is a bit on the far side to go. Sorry. Good luck with the sale.
  9. If your within collection distance of me I'll have it. I should say I am near Newbury Berkshire
  10. Hi I am looking for a scope with side parallax. to use as a spotter. Doesn't need to aim straight and the crosshairs can be hanging off as it is not going on a rifle. Long as the glass is ok. I will be using it on my NV as a spotter as 1.75 mag is not enough. The shorter the scope is the better. If you have anything you are thinking of throwing into the bin let me know. I will pay postage and stick a tenner in the Help the Heros box. Thanks
  11. T bolt is pretty good with a sak mod. Lighter than the CZ and possibly cheaper as when I went to buy CZ had put their prices up. They are also doing short barrels as well as my local RFD has them in stock.
  12. I have VXIII and a Meopta Artimis. I think the Meopta is better and cheaper and is on my deer rifle. VXIII I use with NV cos of side parallax.
  13. Escort Hatson, New, about £350. After reading the reviews I bought one meself.
  14. Funny enough, I spoke to him today on the self same subject. Cos I am going to be looking for 2 off them. And he does make them. If you drop me an email I will give you his contact details and you can call him direct.
  15. A Bolt is cheaper. X Bolt is better. X bolt is better bedded it. I shoot 3/4moa with my 243 using the cheapest federal ammo. Oh and I am not the greatest of shots either. Downsides. Trigger takes getting used to. It is heavyish. about 4 lb. It can be lowered but you need to know how to do it. Spare mag is £50, yup £50. So don't lose the bugger. 9 out of 10 hunters say their prey preferred the x bolt.................. That last bit might have been a lie.
  16. Yeah I'm happy shooting 6" groups at 50 yards. Taken from Chuck Hawks website. Barrel break-in The idea that there is some special "break-in" or cleaning routine required for new rifle barrels has gotten a lot of attention recently. My advice is to follow the suggestions of the barrel manufacturer. If the maker of your rifle barrel prescribes a specific break-in routine, it is probably best to follow their instructions. Otherwise, my approach has always been to sight-in a new rifle normally, without any special break-in. I try to avoid overheating a rifle barrel
  17. My missus hates it............. Which is a shame as I like it. Still more for me.
  18. Never shot a barrel in in my life. It is a contentious subject that some people agree with and others don't.................. I don't
  19. People recommend CZ because they used to be very cheap and accurate. So they sold loads of them. Now they are not so cheap and still very accurate. So generally you wont go wrong with one. I looked at the 17 CZ and Browning and bought the browning cos it was cheaper and lighter and just as accurate. My only complaint is it aint a left hooker.
  20. And I thought normal practice was to use stale buns and hope they choke to death.
  21. If you are intending to walk around the fields then bad idea. heavy old stocks the AI. If you are shooting out of a vehicle and get a stiffie looking at a rifle that would look the part in Futurama then yes
  22. A gun won't keep you dry and warm! Good point
