  1. I remember some years ago a letter appeared in my local paper and it was apparently from a concerned local saying they had found a swan or something wrapped up in fishing line, with hooks in its mouth etc etc and how cruel it all was blah blah. Something about the letter struck me as odd at the time, it was just very generic in its manner so I googled it. Just typed in the information on the letter etc etc The letter popped up in local paper websites all over the country.....turns out it had been sent to every local paper everywhere. That was the anti fishing mob.......ima
  2. Sorry mate, I was talking about lurchers not anything else. I don’t know the first thing about match dogs beyond type and a rough idea of what they do......I wouldn’t begin to comment on what constitutes a good one or a bad one because I wouldn’t know ?
  3. Don’t be silly mate, you are more sensible than that ?
  4. There you have it, well put mate ?
  5. Everyone in the world who still hunts with dogs is the answer to that......it’s simple and it’s obvious mate ?
  6. I dont have a problem with either mate. It wouldn’t be my cup of tea matching dogs but that breed needs them blokes doing what the dogs were meant to do.....more power to their elbow I say. I have seen dogs that could put anything to sleep in seconds, if a dogs fighting and brawling then maybe don’t run it at those things or look for better blood.
  7. It’s only in humane when you are using absolute shit to do it with mate, But the rub with hunting dogs is that you have to go through the process of finding out....there’s no way round it. We ain’t talking pedigree dogs here where the dogs whole worth is on a bit of paper, that worth has to be discovered and there is only one way to discover it......
  8. I thinks that’s all anyone would do anyway mate.
  9. Well, it’s an interesting conversation lads. As I said in the other thread I had a dog I liked and I knew what he was.......but most importantly I also knew what he wasn’t and I never once said “well, you don’t need those things anyway so he is a proper thing” He was a dog with limits ! ........and I didn’t decry other lads who’s dogs never had those limits to make my dog out to be something he wasn’t. C.Green summed it up perfectly the other night when he wrote “I start wondering about the dog if it takes stuff into the next field.......” People with that attitude will be
  10. No mate, we found lots of other ways to make c**ts of ourselves ?
  11. f**k me, there’s a shock, young lads doing stupid illegal stuff that old lads think is howling.......when did that start ? Lol ?
  12. Mine gave a squirrel a nasty look once......so I bred 7 litters and asked £300 a pop ! Lol
  13. And this is where a lack of understanding from people creeps in I think mate, it’s still not about a fight, it’s about what it’s always been about and that is a dog being able to terminate whatever it gets pointed at as quickly and efficiently as possible and if it can do that to the biggest, meanest things that can be found then it can do it to anything and that’s the dog you want to sire your litters. Jmho uneducated opinion of course ?
  14. Hence lads searching out the biggest meanest things to see what they have in the kennel mate ?
  15. My pal went to Finland some years back hunting Raccoon Dogs, the Fin lads had a fox terrier (amongst other things) and my pal said it was an outstanding dog.......when was the last time you saw an outstanding working fox terrier in the UK ? That’s what happens to breeds left to “rot”
  16. Jmho, and as we have been harping on about in the other thread, blood matters and you don’t get decent blood unless lads throw stuff at dogs. Its alright have your nice sensible, steady old thing but keep breeding that to other nice sensible, steady old things and pretty soon there’s f**k all dog left imho......now some folks may not like what other lads do or even their methods but you need them because without them there wouldn’t be a dog left in the world worth feeding. We would all be down the pet shop buying them dog Elvis outfits and parading them round the park ! Lon
  17. The Chris Packhams of this world will never be the man watching £100,000 of his life’s work get herded up a ramp onto a cattle truck and taken to slaughter and being left with a cheque for £10,000 and a broken soul !
  18. TB reactors wipe out people’s lives.....if it was legal to leather those dirty b*****ds then I’d leather them and not think twice about it and I’d take more satisfaction doing that with a decent dog than a .243 A dog that can do that quickly and humanely is like hens teeth (I imagine) but you can buy a .243 off the shelf !
  19. Are you sat there nursing a beddy whippet ? 18tts and mustard round hedgerow rabbits ? Go on, you can tell us ? lol Only messing mate ?
  20. I don’t know what a “dogman” is either mate. I have certainly never been one, some lads are conditioners and some lads just want to chuck something out of a wagon or point it and it leathers things, some want to spend time and really love the dog.....all different people wanting and doing different things. What they bring is a smile to your face mate. Dogs imho are much of a muchness, seen one semi decent dog seen them all type thing......but when you see that special thing that makes you “whoa!” .........that’s watching an apex predator at the top of its game. I supp
  21. Anyone who has ever been kicked by a horse will tell you it’s not fun......I have.....and it’s not fun ! Lol
  22. Did that Razor dog not get put to quiet a lot of bitches ?......maybe I’m imagining that?, the old memory plays tricks but I have heard it’s name come up a lot over the years I’m sure ?
  23. I think if you read back you will find that there isn’t an obsession mate ?
