I sometimes watch old newsreel/info film pathe news type things about Britain from the 30s, 50s, 60s…….its lovely and heartbreaking in equal measure. Id urge anyone to watch a few, it’s puts into perspective how far we have fallen, who we are and what you see now that you didn’t see then ! Look at most really nice places in Europe, look at the people walking about in the background of these films…..there’s all one thing they have in common !

As a collective, we are mate, we spent the last 1000 years kicking f**k out of everyone, that sort of thing sticks around…..but I agree, as a single person I’ve also never encountered any hostility and if I did I just told them to f**k off. I was at that WW1 museum near Bangor many years ago, as the bloke took the group round we came to a room with a massive wall size photo of British troops all parading. Why would he brother ?……I’d imagine those small Baltic states combined don’t have a tenth of the value of Ukraine…..the very, very massive Ukraine. You just don’t allow something like that to go to hostile powers so that can sit on your doorstep buck shee…..as I said, it’s a force multiplier and those other states are not.

It’s not for no reason though is it, it’s always to protect your own people. If there was an enclave of Americans who identified as Americans living in any country in the world and they were then persecuted with laws banning them from using their language or identifying as Americans then the Unites States would roll in all guns blazing and not think twice about it…….same as Britains did in the Falklands

As I said, these regions have been in a state of flux for millennia, at various points in time Ukraine and/or portions of it has been counted as commonwealth by the Austro-Hungarian empire, Russia, Poland and Lithuania……they were sovereign in the areas they controlled. And yes, you can just invade a country to support a small ethnically identical people to your own nation…..country’s do it all the time !

Having actually stood and looked over a field into Russia with the very real task of preparing men for real conflict I’d say Stiff was better positioned to give an opinion than most, Goly talks absolute nonsense but Stiff never does…..he can formulate and give an intelligent opinion. We don’t have to agree with it but you can’t belittle it because it comes from a place of knowledge and not nonsense.

Let’s take it back 40 years, an English speaking enclave with a population that is ethnic British living on territory that geographically belongs to someone else…..the country with the geographic and historical claim take back that region and then we (rightly) respond with military force. And that was 8000 miles away so no military threat from hostile power holding that ground. I genuinely don’t know the answer here so please tell me, what’s the difference between that and an ethnic Russian area in Ukraine which is where, I believe, this all stems from ?

Do you think Putin wants Ukraine or do you think he just don’t want the EU to have it…..because I think the answer to that is the answer to everything brother. And, before anyone else says it I know they were operating in the border regions with ethnic Russians….but that has always happened that country’s protect their own, two of the best examples are Alsace and the Sudaten Land in WW2. What’s the difference between an invasion from the east or an invasion from the west ? Because one uses tanks and the other uses a bank account (that you pay for) ?

Because those border states are meaningless in the grand scheme, their size/geography/topography/resources make them irrelevant ?……but Ukraine is a different story, you holding that is a force multiplier in terms of resources at you disposal ?

I don’t believe this has ever been military related, I think this comes down to sovereignty…..maybe not now or in 10 years, but in 40,50,60 years

Because there’s f**k all in it for him?…..the EU don’t need these states beyond just improving the size of the bloc, but Ukraine with its size and its agricultural & industrial potential is another story….a very big story.
