  1. Don't know, sounded Spanish so south America probably
  2. Just been sent a video of a big croc swimming around a pier with a bloke in its mouth
  3. Thanks to kev for taking the time to entertain the kids on the beach. He didn't need to go to all that effort, especially when he was so busy with other things. Good to meet everyone. ?
  4. Sad yes and another nail in the coffin of fieldsports....but the shooting world did need its wings clipping. Alot of shooters aren't sportsmen...they are shooters, nothing more. The shooting of pheasants in huge numbers by people who wouldn't know a dog or a ferret if one bit the end of their nose and the wholesale shooting of foxes with military hardware has put me off shoots. And that's coming from someone who has done plenty shooting and keepering
  5. Red hot on the beach.....good job I came wearing my sunbathing clothes so I don't look totally out of place ?
  6. Your worried about magistrates.....jock wants to chop hands off! ?
  7. You really seen a woman stoned to death?
  8. Yeah...I've just checked....spent 2 days studying the increased sentencing powers as well ?. Perhaps my head teacher was right and I never will amount to anything ?
  9. Perhaps I do. As I've said with most comments, I'm not 100%. I have actually said....up to to 2 years now and can commit to crown for sentencing. Again I cleared up my point that you aren't going to get 18 month for a pack of bacon or a KitKat. With many other things coming into play and other offences maybe.
  10. At last a sentence we can all agreed with.....
  11. Yeah....if lots of other things come into play....previous, committed while on another sentence or licence etc. My point was, today, you aren't going to get 18 month for A PACK OF BACON or A KITKAT . From what I've seen,in life and in court....the full story never matches the headline .
  12. 2 years now, they can also find guilty and then send to crown for sentencing. I find judges more out of touch. Over simplified maybe but I'd always recommend dressing smartly, looking a magistrate in the eye and talking to them honestly.
  13. I would guess there was more to it.... again I can't argue cos I don't know....but in my experience the headline never matches what actually happened and was heard in court ? I won't keep typing the same thing... But you want to change something get on and change it ?
  14. I won't argue that.....but given the circumstances you describe then I perhaps most people would consider it correct that that option stays open. Again I think things are different now for numbers of reasons and defendants won't get the same options
  15. Shoplifting won't be tried in crown court. It goes before a magistrate first and they will retain jurisdiction and I'm 99% sure that you don't get a choice now
  16. It's changed, you can't take a mars theft to crown court. Sentencing is now within guidelines and can't be made up on a whim, and reasons have to be given for sentencing
  17. I'm studying law in my spare time....I'm not saying I'm correct but it's as I see it... You simply cannot get 18 month for shoplifting at all. Maybe in years past....but then you could dunk your wife in the village pond for gossiping years ago as well. In my experience magistrates, today, in the ones I have observed, haven't been that way and in the vast majority of cases I could see their reasons and thought process.
  18. I think it's changed ? If he selected trail by jury in a crown court for a pack of bacon then he was costing the tax payer a huge amount just to be a nuisance I reckon. Not doubting you but don't think it can happen now
  19. Yeah maybe. Depends on the area I guess. Teachers always make arsehole jp's because they have never done a days work
  20. I don't think it is anymore. I'm not swearing on it and I'll check but I genuinely don't think a shoplifting case could ever come before a jury at the minute. I've met many magistrates.....like wilf has always taught us....if you aren't happy then do something to change it. Be the one with 'our' values sat on the jury or bench ?
  21. Shop lifting wouldn't be tried in a crown court. Go and do the jury service. I know some of you who have had run ins with the law will obviously disagree.....but the jury system and the magistrate system is fantastic thing where people are given an opportunity to describe to people just like them their side of the story. Go and play your part, you might be the intelligent and life experienced one who leads the jury in the direction of the correct outcome.
  22. Thank fuk I didn't set off this afternoon. I've set alarm for 3.45am
