Stronghold or advocate from the vet. Im in pest control and we've treated a lot this summer-resistance to frontline in a lot of areas. I use Advocate as Stronghold didnt work on the dog last year either when I brought some fleas home from a job!

The father of my first bitch stayed 28 hours in a very deep place-couldnt be registered as he was tricoloured-i.m.o thats the problem with the breed-other plummer marked dogs (basenjis, king charles spaniels, beagles)also come in tricolour-it may not be worthwhile trying to breed out.If people breed for colour and show points then other qualities are bound to suffer. There are ''authorities' on the type that would disagree tinytiger.......There are also a huge number of once useful breeds that are now second rate working dogs at best, that prove it to be true..........

I would say the bitch is hunting instead of tear arsing into quarry with no chance of a catch. Good on her.

Could johnny boy (or anyone) Scan and post up some pedigrees? Would make an interesting read.

yeh i can remember plumer doing an article in the mag years ago on that subject, I remember the article was aimed at claims of making a living from lamping rabbits, without help from 'the state' (dole money). Great thread guys- love em or hate em-these minshaws certainly seem to bag some stuff.

does anyone work small type beagles or beaglexs
stormyboy replied to a topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
We used to hunt a full pack before the ban. Started as a gun pack then registered with MH association. I think they were the only registered beagle pack in the country hunting fox. Had some great sport when in full cry on charlie. -
Get it jabbed before ratting. A dog should be jabbed anyway. Lepto isnt a nice way to go mate and its more common than you might think. You or the dog can catch it from infected rat urine-no bite required.

I have no idea what crack on means, over here crack means a good time or a part of a womans body which we like to hold captive from time to time as well.Coursing is also a sport with a captive wild animal is that cruel also,so is ratting when caught in a cage,so is fox digging when he is trapped in the hole with a dog in front of him.Cows are captive before been slaughtered as are chickens, turkeys, sheep the list is endless.Where do we draw the line with politically correctness. The fly is also captive when he is caught on the fly paper as is the mouse when caught on the sticky paper. No offence

can you tell me where i have said what happened in the clip was hunting? you say anyone who has trialed a dog has no respect for there quarry,a lot of the older generation of terrierman in Ireland have done these trials and to say they dont respect there quarry is just ignorance/utter shite, just because you do pest control for a living certainly does not make you an expert on something you clearly no nothing about. Trials-call them what you will. I can and do fully appreciate a game terrier. Is there a need to,shall we say 'work' captive quarry? Yes it was done by the old school guys i

COLLIE GREYHOUND THE WORST DOGS IVE SEEN..........
stormyboy replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Please clarify something. Are some saying that training a dog to a high standard of obedience ruins the dog as a hunter? -
I had a bitch out of Hancocks Taffy stood 24". Good bitch but wouldnt look at a rabbit from 6 yrs old even out of the seat. Still liked other stuff though.
-
Feck me-more about tuns than a lib/dem cabinet! Very nice litter heza. Fair old coat on them. Is the collie a border? I would wager they'll make decent lurchers in the right hands.
-
You never know-a well reared collie/greyhound might just make a decent dog even bred from 'pets'.
-
Because its THL. It seems like its law to jump on anyone advertising pups-even worse if they have the temerity to SELL them, rather than "give them to trusted mates". She's holding her own though-keep it up heza.

whats the best all round cross..for h.f.r
stormyboy replied to royjel's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
3/4 Grey/collie must be one of the most versatile lurchers imo. Speed, brains, nose and bottle in the right one.
