  4. had plenty dogs hit the cover over the years not quite sure your stats are right there mate but yes sometimes they do come back out,i always just keep lamp on and more often than not mine have caught in the cover itself, been lucky or rather my dogs have been never had a problem to date but yes have heard of the odd accident over the years,do i personaly see a dog hitting cover as a problem,no not really and fecked if id know how to stop it even if i wanted to,trick is really to know the land your hunting and what the hedgerows are holding in terms of posts and fencing for example although obvi
  5. air dry them mate,i just hang them out in an old landing net till they go hard, just keep giving the bag a shake every day or so to keep them moving around a bit never had any problems yet
  6. bit harsh that mate . i don't agree with breeding pups but accidents do happen iv met oznblue a few times he's a decent lad and would do owt for anyone his dogs are in good fettle. don't want a argument thats just my opinion ATB Jenna agree mate,we can all give a bit of banter infact lets be honest all to easy on here
  7. a drop of meths will do the trick
  8. if you had him that long and working him thats good enough for me
  9. thanks for that mate, il keep in touch atb rob
  10. go on then enlighten me Twas not meant as an insult mate. I don't buy into the idea that all lamping dogs are "point and slip dogs", it's just a nonsense that people use to try to put other down. So many are used daytime as well anyway. However, some coursing dogs, and i guess some lamping dogs (more so coursing) do spend their life pretty much, on a slip, until quarry is sighted, then let go, they run the quarry and either catch it or lose it and return. Now that's a skill in itself, but never for me, quite as impressive as watching a dog hunt up land and cover, following a line,
  11. well i must be missing something as well as mine work during the day mooching about and will retrieve shot game so i suppose the question really is what constitutes a "point and slip merchant"
  12. mine will readily work with terriers when out bushing,it dont just feck off and do its own thing 300 metres up the hedgerow, unless its on something obviously, i know what your getting at but as for just getting out lamping then they are nothing more than what iv described
  13. i got my lad a little .177 smk15 only paid about £60 brand new ideal size for him to handle completly on his own,not worth going down the route of an old adult size he be struggling with it from day one
  14. the thing is mate you need a long term solution not just moving them out for a few weeks as they will certainly be back just when you start getting comfortable again
  15. i lamped a rabbit up years ago, very long way out in a field just as i was about to slip the dog a fox ran in and caught the rabbit, for his shear cheek i let him have it,and i dont mean that i slipped my dog on him
  16. the only thing other than upgrading your security locks, lighting etc is to get a decent guard dog mate,i had a lurcher nicked last year,ok my missus was a bit dubious about us having another dog just to look after the dogs so to speak but he already earnt his grub for the year ,free running in the garden he will do all the watching i need and certainly knows his job, good luck mate
  17. il be the first to admit im not quite sure how much training you really need for a good lamp dog but iv seemed to manage all these years, the word get is thrown around a lot with my dogs, get up,down,on ,off in,out, get the f**k for anything i just dont like the look of at the time suits me so dont matter what i score myself really
  18. you will be suprised how quick they come out the woodwork for a free pup mate no matter the circumstances if they want one that bad a bag dog grub aint to much to ask better than feck all
  19. regularly hear this term thrown around as some kind of snide comment but for the lads that only lamp is this not exactly what we are because taking into consideration what i want and need from my dogs then i certainly fit into this category. i expect my dogs to run the lenth of the beam toward said rabbit weather it can see it or not just trusting my judgement that there is something there, run it and catch then retrieve to hand if it misses lamp off and without so much as a whisper from me the dog return to my side. so why dont you all just fill in the gaps as to what i seem to be missing ou
  20. the normal car chargers i used over the years eventualy shortened the battery lifes until they pretty much packed up,i told them in the motor parts shop and they recommended a charger for the sealed 12v 7ah batteries that i use, never had any problems since this is the one cost about £40 at the time
  21. more than i could afford very nice them mate
  22. would you use anything to rub into a dog for say bruised shoulder things like that would you use anything to rub into a dog for say bruised shoulder things like that I use gold label witch hazel and arnica gel for muscle strains etc, works a treat. It brings out any bruising really quick and cuts down recovery time. cheers
