  1. I dont know what happened to my last post,it was in reply to ' Leeview ' on page three ! His post ended up below mine, hence the editing.
  2. I couldnt have full confidence,in any " figures released ".Its predictable that any data revealed, will fit the purpose. It wouldnt suit them to test a much higher percentage ,of the culled badgers.Because, If you could guarantee the integrity ,of the results , id bet a significant number would turn out to be healthy. This would be uncomfortable for them, and certainly wouldnt help the cause ! LOL How ironic also, that this ' overly protected status ' which has been brought about by the conservationists themselves,is now going to backfire very badly, for both.
  3. Thanks for clearing that up, Matt.Setting a trap thats going to stab,or impale a mole,is not for me.I just wondered how this squared, with the wild mammals protection act.
  4. That sounds similar, ( if not the same) mate.Thing is i dont think its ' legal ' to use, over here.Although i may be wrong. Perhaps Matt or somebody, could clarify ?
  5. Interesting Moley,I couldnt get over the size of it ,also. Are the moles over there, much bigger than ours,or what ? That other one he had, theres 'spikes' on it , that actually ' spear ' the mole.He actually 'gifted' me it, but i told him ,i dont think i will be using it. LOL
  6. A farmer wanted me to go round some silage fields,(after the first cut ).He drives up to meet me, ( in the quad) as i was walking, one of them.He pulls out from a bucket, this 'big thing' of a mole trap, and says, " I had one in the garden, and had a go with this.Had no luck, but got him with this other one " He then pulls out another ' monster ' of a trap ,with the mole in it ! I had recognised them both, from photos in books, etc.I asks " where on earth did you pick them up from ? , cause i think they are both American type traps ". " from a mail order catalogue " he says.
  7. Yes, double catches are common: There are quite a few reasons why a trap gets blocked; common causes are the trap not being aligned properly, contamination of the trap, and poor tuning making the triggers too hard. As Moley says, reset and try again or you could switch over to a Talpex type trap and catch him out like that... When you buy new traps make sure they are good quality and not Chinky (peststop) crap and tune them up well before use. No need to weather or wear gloves (although it does help keep your hands clean and warm during the winter), but make sure yo
  8. It seems from the photos, you got a nice bit of reasonably flat land,to work on.As im sure your aware ' perthshire ' can be quite hilly ground, also. LOL
  9. Sorry mate, i mucked up and edited it. ( thats me without a drink, too ! )
  10. Enjoyed your pictures,my favourite is the ' surface run '.
  11. What happened to the man ? I miss his posts.
  12. The scottish fans are in for a treat this evening, when the 'great man' with his band 'crazy horse' , take to the stage , at the SECC.
  13. Firstly the diagrams are crap (my 10 year old could come up with a more detailed line graph ffs) they jump from 1940 to 1960 missing 10 years out of 1950 and representing those years (that there is no data for ie1940) with a made up dotted line, why? Secondly after compulsory testing was introduced the rates dropped significantly, maybe this had something to do with cattle AND badger control. Thirdly look at how the rates start to rise after the introduction of the Wildlife act 1981 and then shoot up exponentially over 10-20 years on. This being plenty of time for an uncontrolled pest
  14. Just to add to the mix,and perhaps balance things out a bit, check out www.badgersandtb.com Ive had to read it again and again, just to get enough of it to sink in !! ha-ha.
  15. What are you on about ? Id really like to hear your views on the matter then......... Apologies, it seems youve shared some of your wisdom, earlier in the thread.
  16. What are you on about ? Id really like to hear your views on the matter then.........
  17. Im not " hell bent " on proving anything. The 'findings' as a result of all these 'trials' , are open to interpretation.Everyone can form their own opinion,of the matter. As ive also stated before,( on another thread ) i can accept that there are probably too many badgers now, in certain parts, which can lead to problems with them.
  18. To the doubters............do the research as i have. The information is out there. Why would i lie about it ? Northern Ireland have achieved the fall, with cattle controls alone. In Eire, badger removal within the cull zones, has greatly reduced the populations.Yet, the cows still have TB............It could certainly be argued then, that the cattle themselves are still the MAIN reservoir, of the disease.
  19. Aye, but it seems 'herd incidence' fell at roughly the same levels, in Northern ireland, with no badger culling, over the same period.............. where have you seen that chap. I seen it from a graph of the official statistics, taken from both irish agricultural departments. official statistics what are they, all statistics can be manipulated to suit any argument Yes,there is some truth in that.........
  20. Well mate, are you going to get it stuffed,or if you passed it on to a taxidermist, they should surely give you a decent sum,for the little rarity ?
  21. Oh dear, Im sorry i didnt have the chance to read this, before i entered my last reply................!!!!
  22. I did think twice about asking, should have known better..................      As ive said before, every Tom , Dick , and Harry, wants to be a mole catcher nowadays.......
