Aye, a get you,.....& of course getting on top of some rabbit problems,..properly,(in some instances ?)....can involve methods other than just the gun ? -

"there are lots of people out there who will do it for free." ,...aye, so it seems (& that's the problem ? ?),....but, I can understand why,....so (obviously) each to their own. -

Aye, a see what your saying,..... & a bit of "permission" is certainly no bad thing either. My mate would have done my customers rabbits, on that basis too,....but he got paid anyway, for an initial clearance of burrows within the boundary of the guys garden anyway ? (& why not ? lol) only thing was neither of us had a clue, as to what he might charge,...?,....but got something arranged anyhow. -

Just out of interest, did you consider exploring the possibility of payment for the rabbit control, (maybe not that kind of opportunity, perhaps ?)or are you not at that stage yet ?,......reason i say is , a friend of mine who has been a rabbiter all his days (dogs, ferrets , snares, ) just done his FIRST paid rabbit job, last year there,...cause there was a customer of mine with a garden & just one field, i was taking care of the moles on, asking me about how to deal with rabbit problems in his garden. Anyway, after discussing possible options,.....& in the end he was happy for my fri -

A better rabbit trap?
earth-thrower replied to hedge wanderer's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Yes, & also you find here everyone who's interested knows where all the rabbit holes are (historically too, as all the info is passed down over the years, through the generations, etc, even old warrens were they have died out !)...& the chances of traps & captures being discovered, & stolen would be high,...... -
A better rabbit trap?
earth-thrower replied to hedge wanderer's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Good post this, ....even though im no rabbit trapper, myself, I would love to give it a go , in the right situation however,...but one thing I've always pondered is how do you overcome every Tom Dick & Harry,...out with dogs, & ferrets,...taking the opportunity of investigating the rabbit burrows, for the chance of a chase or a kill, etc ?,.....(never mind normal dog walkers, & people's pet cats, in the vicinity of warrens) so am I right in thinking the scope for utilising them, would be limited ? -
Iol,...nice one, mate !

Mole catcher featured in Country Life, mag
earth-thrower replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Just noticed the amount of views this topic, has had,...well over 1700 !!, would be better if more folk commented more generally to topics though ?,.....think that's why i try & start some, as it's important to try & keep the section going ? -
That would be good, mate,....(I like looking at photos of mole activity, for some reason !!),...are you Northeast Scotland, then ? , & I know what you mean about the "rain" , hence why I'm on here yapping ?
-
Interesting stuff,...
-
I understand,...,......are there many moles about, your neck of the woods then ?
-
Pity your not charging then ? lol ( or maybe you dont need the money , right enough,..)
-
Who said it was a "secret "??,...& let us know when you knock a few of those plastic ones up, mate ,....cause i know one or two boys who want to try one ?
-
Well, its documented that this design was the forerunner, to the duffus, but not exactly the same, i reckon ? (& single catch). As i say they wouldnt generally be first choice for commercial mole trapping, mate,....where your under pressure, too catch them ? (if you get my drift ?)
-
" I was using those metal traps 35yrs ago " ,.....so can you clarify ?,.....cause i doubt it was the Putange or Talpex ! ,...which you are using now. lol
-
Sorry, forgot to add, i had to get one or two made for myself, by trying to copy also, mate. ( a bit painstaking & expensive the process turned out to be too ! lol)
-
Why ?,....they are not gonna improve your capture rate ! ha ha (believe me i know ) & your doing alright, so whats the problem ?
-
"Yes I know but you couldnt wait to get a pic up could you" ??,... lol,....actually mate, no !,....ive showed the folks on here that wooden barrel trap before, cause i thought some might be interested, & they are not my idea, & i learned about them off an old (well known) mole catcher. Have i not already explained why i put them pics up ? (cause another contributer mentioned awkward moles ?) thats what the forums for, is it not ?.......(this traps a novelty for me, & is NOT my main trap, that i use,...) & im sorry but i cant make sense of the second part of your reply ?
-
"So this is the trap you you tryed to get me to ask about" ???,.....forgive me, but i dont think so, bud lol,......i was prompted to reply cause of 'Luck Or Judgements' post, actually, (as it was just coincidence i had a tricky mole) and as i mentioned before MOST of the commercially produced mole trap types, (of metal construction) that are available nowadays, you can catch with, its just your own choice what you prefer ?
