  1. Unfortunately its all about paperwork nowadays I have spent 10 hours today and half of yesterday preparing paperwork for a brc contract my head is spinning and I might not even get it. trust me if paperworks not your thing pest control is not for you.
  2. Don't under value you self if the hill farmer won't pay go and do something else. my prices were much much higher than the average on here and I have just had to put them up by 50% if the day comes when. Can't make money out of mole catching I will pack it in I would rather sit at home watching telly than work for next to nothing.
  3. Please tell me these are joke prices how many of you are professional mole catchers and how many doing it for a bit of beer money think about it lads if you did one day decide to make a career out of it how would you survive charging let's say 10 per hour. if you were trapping for 60 hours a week which would leave you with a couple of hundred quid wage after tax insurance fuel and exp enses. In reality you may be trapping for a few hours a day and this is only if you have thousands of acres on your books.
  4. Logun you offered my your traps at a fiver each which is not much less than I can buy traplines for plus I don't have to pay postage on traplines and I get as the supplier is just down the road. I will be ordering some more next week as all mine are out at the moment and I have a bit of a waiting list.
  5. Ok so you arrive at job park up find land owner have cuppa, walk to the area, probe for run, dig in, slip in trapline "which for those who have not used them takes 2 seconds" why not slip another in. I catch moles for cash not for fun so want to make sure I have as many chances as possible to clear them out. you wouldn't saw the claws of one side of your talpex so why only set one trapline. Which by the way are in my opinion are the best traps available.

    any one from Leeds?
  7. Baking soda? Who gave you that advice.. I think they were having a laugh, call a pro roaches are very very easy to get rid of if you know what you are doing. One simple treatment will do the trick. If you don't you may never get rid of them don't just pick any pester get someone who deals with them regularly, and get a fixed price to eradication if they try to charge per visit chances are the don't know how to deal with them. As for an idea of cost, I charge a fixed £90 for a domestic if a small one room infestation of a full house crawling with them.
  8. 10 pounds a box? Ill have the lot
  9. Not knocking you for trying but farmers are not stupid. They know the difference between a pest controller and someone looking for somewhere to shoot. they may use someone to do fumigation work and possibly keep rat numbers down, someone who can provide a paper trail of what has been done and the measures they put in place to make it safe. I think everyone on the forum will agree that the best way to get a shoot is to knock on doors. I still think a good website with info about you and your hobby may be a good idea to show how keen you are and the knowledge you have about the countryside, just
  10. It states you are fully insured to undetake any type of pest control im sure you basc insurance would not cover you for trapping moles and controlling mice . As with the other chap who commented this is how i pay my mortgage i have invested thousands of pounds and 3 years of graft to build my business up to a point where i am just starting to turn a profit. The pest control industry is not about sitting in a field with your mates taking pot shots at rabbits, get it wrong and you could end up it the s&%t. In my opinion you should have a website called rabbithunter.com or something simil
  11. I use bill fountain and pay around £500 which is good for the amount of cover i have.
  12. who told you they were 90p the mousemesh vent covers are a tenner i just use fine mesh from the garden centre for mouse proofing its a bit of a con trying to sell wasp proofing but i suppose its handy to have a few if the customer really wants it doing.
  13. Got a job on tomorrow in Ilkley. I will let you know how i get on
  14. ok i suppose so but i have never been called to trap moles under paving slabs most farms up north just use grass.
  15. I have only been trapping for around a year and only use flatpacks never yet had a siuation where the tunnel was not suitable. What in your opinion would be a situation where a tunnel trap would not work.
  16. Just wondering whats the most popular trap.
  17. just sent you a pm regarding clearing the rats
  18. Sounds like a nightmare why do you need to clear the rats first? baiting would be difficult and even if you could get them to eat which it doubtfull due to there being 60 tonnes of food to go at it would take weeks. You could shoot a few but I would imagine if you sat there for a week you would not get em all. I would clear the food first them call someone in to bait the area.
  19. Not quite - about 60 years later perhaps ... John Duffus made and patented the original ones in early 1922, those are stamped J DUFFUS on one side and PATENT on the other side. The patent was later sold to D. Jolly in 1958 and the traps continued to have the Duffus name stamped but not the word patent. But saying that there was an even earlier patented design that was almost exactly the same from 1880 too by Notcut. OTC yes i know they didn't design it but i belive they now own the brand.
  20. As far as I know KG traps are Bethal Rhodes (manufacturers of the original duffus trap)
  21. I use a b&g 2.5l I rarely need more that a few litres so its ideal.
  22. thats a fine mole catchers bag, puts my plastic bucket to shame
