Just a quick update for those that may be interested, Nina went free at the start of the week and has done well, been giving her some time the last couple of days to stretch her wings before showing her the lure, she gave me three passes today before i served her it in the air which she took in good style, starting to bring her weight up a little now.
  5. Ive read countless of your threads regarding your vendetta against the RSPB and various other people whom are highly respected and hold some sort of authority in the Falconry community, and i was made aware of your history a long time ago through not the RSPB the police or any other group you seem to have it in for but by a normal well respected falconer friend whom you have also had lets just say a "run in" with. And many other people who have no connection at all to these organizations and to all ends are no fan of them at all have backed the story up. Still guilty or not (although my mind i
  6. More than likely. Hes probably seen one on tv and got a nice cage to keep it in :clapper: hey roughly how much is a male harris? i was thinking bout 350 am i low or high? i've never seen one for sale or anything so im guessing Ok so you dont know how much one costs, what do you know about Harris hawks??

  9. Never been on one myself but know a few guys who have and were not very impressed, they got a hell of a lot on mole and rabbit biology etc and then a demonstration on how to effectively control rabbits and moles using one method only-gassing!! When they asked their "teacher' about trapping shooting ferreting etc they got a sidewards glance and something was murmoured about them not being effective methods of control. May have been just one bad apple though your not going to know until you try it yourself and at least at the end of the day if it is rubbish you still walk away with the piece of
  10. Well thats funny because according to your first post on the forum you have been working lurchers since the age of 13 and have just recently taken up the "noble art of falconry" as you put it, you also go on in further posts to mention you have bought a harris hawk and are not sure if you can tell its male or female for god sake! oh and its "birds of prey" not "pray" but im sure you will know that with all your years of experience. Right now im "praying" you do decide to take the lantra award but like many other few month wonders im guessing its going to be "to much hassle" i well and truely r

  12. I don't think that you're 'pissing on anyones parade'! If you read my last post, I stated that the award WAS aimed at total beginners. What I don't like is that being asked to pay ex amount of £s for a piece of paper that says that I have passed the assessment to a level where I can keep, feed, and train a bird to fly to the fist on the creance when I have been Flying and hunting and breeding birds for years, with out any deaths!.Committment enough don't you think! Now it seems that both the BFC and WHC appear to be imposing the LANTRA award as a statutory requirement for membership? Is this

  15. Sorry to piss on everyones parade but i happen to think the LANTRA falconry award is one of the best things to happen to Falconry in years, spent the weekend at the festival myself and bumped into a fair few people who could do alot worse than to get involved in it. Like what has already been mentioned some less than credible centres have used it as a money making opportunity, which is a real shame because to a complete novice which little or no knowlege it is a great start to give a general oversight of whats involved in keeping a bird of prey, the award is called " beggining falconry " award
  16. When do most of you start feeding your flight ponds in preparation for the season?

cant agree more billy nothing worse than see your bird take one last look at you then bugger off lol.. this year i am taking no chances especialy with the red hes getting a bit of a head on himself . what kind of telem do you recomend billy been looking at a full set up from ben long . I use a falconry electronics set, TRX-3S reciever and 30 mile merlin transmitters, adding a couple of marshal transmitters shortly aswell, speak to Eddie at falconry electronics he will recommend a good set to suit your needs and his customer service is fantastic
  18. is that so they can be dispatched more effectively? correct

I never used telemetry when i first started as it would have cost me about 5 years worth of pocket money at the time! lol saying that you only have to use it once to get your bird back and its paid for itself there and then, wouldnt let any of my birds loose now without a tag on, doesnt matter how good a falconer you are or how reliable the bird is you will loose it eventually and the telemetry is your insurance policy, my advice to anyone starting out who mights struggle to afford a full set is to even just buy a transmitter that way worst case scenario you can borrow a receiver should the wo
