  1. That is the reason for a .22lr, stealth and silence for 99.99% of the time for rabbits and crow etc. but until i get enough money for a true dedicated fox calibre (a .223 is on my wish list) i may have to take a fox or two with the rifle i have. but as a Hiho say its bullet placement not power and i feel a damn sight more confident in the accuracy of the trustey eley subs. I was hoping (possibley in my nievity) that there was a high velocity round that was sufficiently accurate. mr.logic could you give me any advice on good silencer for .22lr. got about £60 to spend on one, might be willin
  2. I would much rather use a rifle even for muntjac i think it more sporting and i would presume cause less damage to meet. i was asking as i've been told of muntjac drive on a shoot years ago and was wondering if its still legal.
  3. I will only be doin odd jobs for friends of friends and i help out on a shoot and fishery both requiring bit of tree felling. i borrowed a mask and wore the proper trousers, i was taught how to direct the fall (must admit the moment it began to fall scared shitless) all went really well if a little unsuring. and setting up a chainsaw and maintanance (my uncle repairs em). i dont fancy paying out £500+. maybe i'll get to know a tree surgeon and get em to me a few hour practical tuition and tips
  4. hey everyone. does anyone have any information on courses on treefelling and chainsaw safety? i been tacking some trees down for a friend of a friend and i felt i was ok at it, but no doubt my very informal training would be benefited by such a course
  5. Just wondering how you would get the smoke down the hole, is it just a section on hose pipe?? i've tried smoke pellets but bit toxic for my liking, the chainsaw would be damn easier nd bit more pleasant...for me mind ...not the rats
  6. could be handy...rabbit goes to ground....no problem...just to pick up the peices if any
  7. I have a bit of permission next door to a deer farm and theres all around there (whether they been attracted by the farm ones i dont know) there are muntjac and fallow or roe (not to clever on them two), are you still allowed to shoot muntjac with a shotgun??? im in two mind whether to wait till the number of muntjac increase so i have more chance of one or just apply for a variation on an FAC for a suitable calibre.
  8. What the deal with leaving ferrets in season without breeding or jill jab. i've spoken to vets about this and one said theres no harm to be done but the other said that it was really detrimental to the ferret. cant find any evidence for either side of the argument
  9. i wouldn't say that a illuminated reticle is a life saver but it does come in bloody handy on occasion. i do a bit of pest control on the side with a friend and when using an air rifle on ferals in a dark warehouse its does come in handy a non illuminated rectile disapears and makes thing tricky. I use the same gun/scope for hunting as well, under lamp or just low light (dawn and dusk) is much better than non illuminated. remember if you have a illuminated reticle you can turn it off but if you dont you cant turn it on. I would go for a basic IR (illuminated retcile) not too many options just
  10. I can see why you are skeptable of this brimmer and i would love to be able to show you. even if this method is not 100% bomb proof it still has got my ferrets back withouth diggin or waiting hours for it to pop its head up for a second only to go back down. and that good enough for me, i do it as a hobby and have no problems hiding that, if i was to be paid to do it then i would obviously have collar and not rely solely upon this method however it is useful in my opinion.
  11. i use salmon purely because of the stong smell and the ferrets seem to like it. it works on my ferrets, i used to use condenced milk but opted for the salmon after a spilage, and the strong smell could only be a good thing when coupled with a whistle.
  12. What your describing may not be a trained ferret but one being called back blind after obviously poppin out of a hole 100yrds away is. This is my point many people have very set veiws on the intelligence of animals. may i ask what you call a "proper" ferret, from what i read it seems you mean a killer i dont want that kind of ferret . By all means if you have found a method that work for you, then that is the best method. The method of training my ferrets works for me. this was only confirmed when they escaped and they were called back on the whistle both arriving at my feet from diferent dire
  13. i assure you its not. But the reason i trained my ferret was not to get one or two extra rabbits but to get my ferret back, and seeing as i use two small jills for hunting i would imagine killing more than two rabbits, would leave them knackered and ready to come back.
  14. Obviously if a ferret is very very stubborn then im afraid its out with the spades, but fortunatly all my ferrets have been willing. All i did to train my ferrets was every time i feed them i give them 2 short toots on the dog whistle, i've done this since they were weined and know they associate thos 2 toots with grub. every so often i give them a bit of a practice and let em wonder around the garden and the neighbourgh's for a minuite or so then calling them on the whistle. its amazing seein two ferrets boundin along the lawn completely ignoring the chickens and quails. when im out
  15. I'm just interested in know whether anyone else has trained ferrets to come on command using a dog whistle?i've done it with all my ferrets and my uncle before me and neither have had to dig one out. When i've spoken to people about this, i've simply been ridiculed and called some not very desirable things.
  16. That'll save on buyin a box of 50 for say 10 shots. cheers:D
  17. would the powder and head have to be kept in a safe like ammunition???
  18. How would i get into reloading, do i need any paper work and what equipment and price of startin out? would be most interestin to find out. many thanks
  19. Would this be classed as a Section 7 firearms as its a pistol or just be section 1 under rifles and what not??
  20. i know what you mean pal. try owning a 25-06. 37 pound a box i must say i dont envy you:) have you had a look at reloading? i know nothing of it but have heard its cheaper and making custom loads can only be a good thing i would imagine. if i were you i'd ask someone in the know. £37 a box thats just extorsionate
  21. is it possible to keep on swaping over a bipod between rifles as long as they both got studs???
  22. i will use subsonic with a moderator for rabbit and small ground game. but as i work on a shoot/farm one of my duty will be keeping an eye out for foxes and if possible shoot them. Although i dont like usin this calibre as shots must be tacken pretty close, needs must until i get enough money for a .223. The farmer has suggested remmigton cyclone, but i was not very pleased with the accuracy even at short range of these.
  23. How much would you expect to pay for some decent ammunition like federals or remigton per box? cant find prices anywhere on the net.
  24. I have only set out a quick set long net in the day (hay cutting) but i would imagine the principles are the same. always do a rekie so you know where to set your net and take note or remove any obsticles so to avoid unwanted embarresment and a field lacking in rabbits. Now for the real work. assumin wind and weather are suitable set out the net in positions and then as silently as possible (may need to give the rabbits a wide berth) so not to push them the opposite way to the net get behind them to work the feild. to drive the rabbits in to the net a long piece of string (called a "dead dog
  25. my uncle just recently came back from china he was something to with the olympics and i know for a fact he was presented when eatin with some high up officials, with Ox penis soup.... i'd rather the fox tbh.
