  1. Dave I am a newbie but if thats whats plummers do is that not ok? What is the defintion of a 'working dog'? I once fostered a long legged staff/pit who was bred to fight (and cost thousands) and that was to be his 'work' - he was however stolen then passed to a rescue where I fostered it for a while - never bothered anything including my kids yet its work was to fight to the death? If I fancy a plummer for vermin and walking and thats its 'work' whats the problem? You can pretty much train any terrier to go to ground given the chap thats training is the bizz - much like anything else.
  2. Just googled her maw, she looks a right dirty... FTB
  3. Buy a farmers weekly and look at the back for farm sales in your area. Gear sold at auction and you might get a bargain. Honda or kawasaki iff you can stretch to it. FTB
  4. She is Polish...some of them are right state when they arive over here. FTB
  5. Just finished watching the film - ive never seen it before and I thought it was brilliant. Big 4-10 to foxgun tom for putting it up. Cheers! FTB
  6. If you cant find one cheap, give us a PM before the season because ive got a spare spade exactly the same as the one in the pic,I can give it you for a score. FTB
  7. Who got in Rochdale? FTB
  8. No heavier than a fiberglass bulldog - its thin tubular steel - not the scaffolding poles filled with concrete that ive seen some people use lol. Drilled a hole in the spade head, clip a dog lead to it and it goes over your shoulder. I do % of my terrier work on my own so everything that saves weight and frees a hand is great. FTB
  9. I appreciate your point mate, but ive worked for a contractor and if you dont do the end rigs first the jobs a total bastart. They will go round the field 6-8 times then start on long bouts, anything in the end rigs is fecked, but in the middle of the field they at least have a chance. They are running a business and have to operate economically at the end of the day. Best solution is to find out when they plan to cut and walk it out with the dogs. FTB
  10. If you go to a game fare there is sometimes a stall that sells old army bulldog spades for a fiver. Break the wooden shaft, and throw them in the fire - this will burn the wood out of the spade head then you have a clean spade end to take to a welder. Tell him the height you want and your sorted! FTB
  11. This is what I used all of last season. £10 a piece for the spades and he made us a wee probe for free. Ive drilled a hole in the top of the large spade and the probe slots inside the shaft - the wee spade is invaluable if you get deeper than waist height, turn it on its end and it hacks through tree roots a treat as well. Bulldog spades are great - but at £30-£40 a piece after you loose/break a few you get a bit pissed off. You would have to be a really rough bast to break the welds on that - and you will find most welder/fabricators are only too happt to do jobs like thi
  12. Cant tell in the photos if thats a young barley crop or grass...if it's the latter it looks ready for the chop Ive seen a young deer go through a mower and it aint pretty. Any silage fields on the farm I work at that border on rough ground i walk through with the dogs before they cut it. When you see how tight they sit its inevitable some will get caught. FTB
  13. My old polecat jill was an escape artist - if I showed you some of the gaps she could get out you would bever believe me. Leave the hutch open with a gutted rabbit or some meat inside and check it very regularly. Mine would always be back within the day - she only escaped twice but came back herself both times. Hope you get him back bud. FTB
  14. Whats urban-ish.been catching them for years in countryside.still do Semi-tame. In my experience, you wont get a true country fox going into a cage unless its a daft cub. Town foxes on the other hand, are a different kettle of fish. FTB
  15. To be honest I wouldnt waste my money on a spade again after going through a couple of bulldogs last season alone. Took 2 old bulldog heads to a welder fabricator I know and he made us 2 spades to my own spec - full metal with superb welding. These will never break! Spend a little more and you cold get one made of ally. I'ii put up pics later if I figure out how to... FTB
  16. Clint your a total wind-up merchant. What you do is called playing devils advocate, but at least your posts give us a laugh once in a while. FTB
  17. Why dont you take your bigotry some were else.We dont need it hear When did you become the law - if the moderators have a problem with my opinion they will let me know - im sure of that. Untill then, just play nice. FTB
  18. Aye , I get you. Although my preferance is russels, its not all I would keep. If it works, it doesnt matter what it is - they are only types at the end of the day and once you start breeding for type FTB
  19. FTB then surely the russell was that original hunt terrier then(by the way i only have the blacks). Not neccisarilly. They were the digging dogs, others were bred for the hunt as well as russells. By the way I only have whites The black dogs you will have now are not the kind of dogs they were years ago. FTB
  20. 100 in 22 years 4.5 pups a year pedlar I think not ! lol all mine work 100% and have a garuntee to satisfy the customer..comparing with brian nuttal not really ..have no wish to compare with anyone...and for the record like all breeds ive seen none working nuttals 6 infact in one kennel in gatwick 2 were chocolates. Fecking lier. Theres not a man alive who breeds any type terrier that could guarantee that. FTB
  21. i didnt say they wasnt used on both quarry.how far are you going back regarding the lakey/fell types being the main foxing terriers? as a hunt terrier, that master would require the fox to be bolted(unless otherwise told to dispatch)for the hounds to continue to hunt.im sure if anything, the lakey/fell types where in the norm hard to their fox,not unlike many strains today..... Going way back mate. FTB
  22. Thats my maw ! LOL In my opinion this is why BNP have a good level of support these days. They are not affraid to voice their opinion - they do not change their opinion like the wind when the public change theirs - they dont just tell you what you want to hear - they arent just show ponies that are afraid to act like normal human beings. If a paki spat at me, i'd rip him a new arse hole - I say well done to the guy for standing up to some raghead bullies. The rest of them are spineless, lying, corrupt surrender monkeys who tell you what you want to hear - keeping their own
  23. FTB correct me if im wrong but the russell was the original hunt terrier.would that not be a bayer to bolt No mate. In the first instance russell types were the digging dogs used on both quarry. Lakies and fell types were the foxing terriers. Things have changed somewhat now. FTB
  24. "Are the standards that you require of blacks higher than what you would expect of whites?" Other way about from my point of view. A pig on a leash is easy to find - a good working terrier is a different kettle of fish. IMO there is more to a terrier than walking it to a hole on a lead and digging it back out - but this probably comes from the way I work my dogs and the ground i work them on. FTB
  25. If you bred a litter of very good blacks and a litter of very good russels the percentages would more than likely be the same if brought on correctly. Its trying to find a good line of honest working russels - there are a few about - but you have to look and know people. I could get my hands on any number of good black dogs without stressing too much - I have to do a 400 mile round trip to get my russell bitch lined. IMO, a good working russel will always be superior to a patt - russells were the original digging dogs. I think thats what your asking AA FTB
