  1. Hello bill, nice to see you finally on here mate. Told you its not worth putting ya pics on Facebook but this site is the Facebook of country sports mate. See you got talking to people already and some good people on here who always help with advice . You herd about my Jill then, had her out and she worked well bit found her later all swollen up in one of the lower sleeping boss.

  2. Now gone to a new home at an open farm for breeding as the women at the farm said they were show quality , should have some hens off them in September aswell.
  3. My hob from last year is showing signs of coming into season, but the 3 jills and the snipped hob are all still ok for the moment. gonna leave them for a little longer.
  4. HI All, I got two stunning looking Golden Brahma Cockrals that need to go to good homes asap as i live in residential area and they are due to start crowing any day now. They were hatched last year and have grown into exstremly attractive birds however i was after hens for egg laying and dont have the space for these pleasent and friendly birds. I will put up a picture of them tomorrow and please message me if you are interested in collecting this by the end of next week, I will deliver if not to far. Darren.
  5. Welcome to the site....

  6. It sounds like you done the job the first time round, the body will spasm for a bit when you break the neck. This is just the nervous system releasing the last of the energy. A way of checking that you have dispatched successfully is to run your finger and thumb down the neck and you will feel the breaking point. The method you describe is by far the most humane method, chopping to the back of the neck with your hand is in my opinion, not as reliable. You could knock the rabbit unconscious and believe you have killed the rabbit or generally you will have to chop them more than once, if you cat
  7. THANKS EVERYONE, GONNA GIVE THE SPRAY A GO I THINK.
  8. will give the spray a go, I did use drops for small animals but must have been another make. I got them from the vets so ill check what they were called when i go and get the frontline spray. They have worked but not to the effect that would keep the fleas away for good, and they were quite exspensive.
  9. HI Kay, do you just spray the ferrets or do you use it to spray the cage and bedding as well. Is the spray the one for cats as I bought a pack of drops that I think were frontline. This was made for smaller animals i.e ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs etc. It has done some good but not worked as well as I had hoped.
  10. Hello all, I’ve been out a few times this year now on some huge sets that hold a large amount of rabbits , this is great but they also hold a lot of other pests in these well populated sets . My ferrets have got fleas, they are the big red type that breed fast and bite them to bits. I have put drops on the ferrets and powdered them up for a week, they have died down and ferrets are looking a bit better now but they are still not gone completely and I am sure if I don’t do something else they will be back with a vengeance. Any one got any methods for these little bugger
  11. As somone has said if you do a search you will fing loads of different designs, I have attached some pictures of mine for you to look at. Hope it helps and lets see ya finished huthches.
  12. Not sure why this post has not been put back to the front of the list? If it does not then I would make a new post ian as sure more people will be interested.
  13. Got my stick in the post yesterday and I am well pleased with it, my other half also really liked it to and she is hard to please lol. I work my ferrets on some big hills and I am always falling over, I can not wait to get out this Sunday and use my new stick to get up and down the hill without slipping over. I am sure my friends will miss my weekly roll down the hill but I suspect they will all want one of these walking sticks as well. Hand made to a high standard, thank you very much Ian and i recommend these all day long. Many Thanks and some more orders will be coming your
  14. I am going to look at my contact in detail this weekend before I respond but as far as verble agreements went the letting agent only made it clear that it was no pets in the house and never mentioned the garden.
  15. I have recently moved house to a rented detached house with a private garden as had problems with noisy neighbours at our last house. Any way my dad hached and reared 3 golden bahrama hens for me this year and have been very excited about getting them. Picked them up last week and they are great, wont lay for a few more weeks but are gerat fun and follow you round the garden like pet cats lol. We have got friendly with the neighbours and mentioned that we had the chickens, a couple of days later and my letting agent calls me and says the landlord has had complaint about the noise f
  16. Well done Max, 5 of us went out on sunday on a big big set, im talking about 500 holes along one bank all interlocking. only had around nets but worked our nuts off and netted 9 rabbits, we had a good 10 more bolting out of holes we hadnt covered. It was a good day and the ferrets are still young so they done really well to push rabbits out of such a big set. early days yet mate well done..... Darren
  17. well done mate and its great when they come up to you and offer the permission. I have been out twice now and I havent seen any young around, plenty of rabbits though.
  18. Ha ha I know, we had the rest of the equipment and our boots in the car, 5 minutes away at the bottom of the hill. That is the difference with this time of year, You can get away with t-shirts and trainers and not feel like ya gonna break ya neck or freeze to death lol. You can see why we wanted to get out and give it a go so bad and to let the farmer know we mean buisness , the ground is great and not a bramble in sight. Ferreters Paradise lol........
  19. Me and my brother went out for a couple of hours on sunday, this is the first time I have ever been out so early in the year. Normally i am waiting for the first frost but decided to give it a go for a couple of reasons. The 1st was that i have just been given some new permission on land that is over run with rabbits and the farmer seemed keen for us to make an apperance, i didnt want him to give the permission to someone else or call in pest controllers. And 2nd that the sets are in the open and when i walked the land during the week i hadnt seen any starters out feeding. We s
  20. well done mate, I was at a village fete only last week and got chatting to the organisers who said they would be more than happy for me to do somthing with the ferrets next year. I think ill give it a go as sounds like you had a great day. Well done.... Darren
  21. good point i may need to put a tray on some other levels as well, like i say havent got round to solving this one yet so thanks for the advice.
  22. Kay - Looks great, the only thing I would do differently is to put some battening round the bottom & staple the mesh on to it Hi Kay, not sure what you mean as this is what I have done around the bottom of the cage. It is on legs that have been made into a run at the bottom with batten and wire stapled to it. Do you mean the floor? Once I move house I am Going to make some alterations to the run at the bottom, for example I am going to add doors to the run instead of just stapled mesh and also a tube that runs out to an extra run I have built out of an old TV cabinet. Martin
  23. I finally finished the run at the bottom of my cage this weekend as it stopped raining. Moving house soon so I havent done what I completly wanted to do but had to get the run done for now. I put some hanging pipes up and used some tubing.for them to get up and down the levels. I can not wait to get out ferreting this winter as seems to be loads of rabbits about this year. Got a couple of young to train up and my jill from last year will be in her secound season, so she should be a lot more clued up this season.
  24. Welcome to the site mate, look forward to reading your posts. Darren
  25. It was a vet that told me to use tins of cat food! he said if you can afford it, go for the dry ferret food if not, tins of cat food will be fine??? she also gets whatevers left of rabbits, crows, pigeons etc With Rabbits I take the loin, and back legs, the dogs get the front legs and the Ferret gets the skin, head and lights. with Pigeons I strip off the breast and the rest goes into the Ferret. Crows, jackdaws etc are fed whole to the ferret. On a Sunday she also gets a bowl of watered down milk, and a raw egg to play with. Joe14 - That stuff works out at £39 a kilo!!! Cheers L
