  1. Good point shepp but your much better off getting permission as its not worth the risk and the laws they used to fine the guys in the link are the same laws they would use if you had ferrets with you.
  2. My link Have a look at what can happen if you don’t get permission, a friend of mine has just been fined. I used to do the same but the days of strolling on to land and saying its only a few rabbits has gone. All it does is feeds the anties/press with the ammunition they need to get it banned.
  3. nice mate. is it you first lakie? Yes its my first Lakeland terrier and she's doing well, still working on her with general training but she is still very young at the moment so gotta give it time.
  4. Nice pup mate, I just got a lakeland myself and well pleased with her....
  5. Oh that bad lol, well I hate not finishing things so I will read on, though you say they are bad you still read six of them lol. As this thread was about what too read and not what not to read, what would you recommend Simoman as with the book collection I would say you are the one to ask?
  6. Nice pups fellas, good luck with them, just got a pup myself and looking forward to getting her out.
  7. Whats up with evryone on the Frain situation, im reading "The Middleton Strain of Working Terrier" by Sean Frain at the moment and so far so good, only a short way through but a good read so far.
  8. Thanks peps, She is out of Middleton Strain of Lakeland Fell Terriers and I will get some more pics up shortly of the Sire and Dam and some of the pup bonding with the ferrets. gonetoearth - Are you asking how much I paid for my pup or how much pups in general, I would say anything from £50 to £1000 depending on a number of issues. I have gone down the road of the working strain of dog, so not near the higher end if that puts ya mind at rest. oldmoocher - crakin but ? what - or was that a typing error?
  9. I can not see the point in why some people bother righting on this forum but they do anyway!!!!LOL I work some hard hilly ground with big, big sets with lots of hard undergrowth, I want a dog that’s going to stick by me and work the set not fU** off over the hill after a single rabbit that got away. I before anyone has a rant at this, yes I have had a beddy whippet and he was a blinding dog, he is retired and lives with my Nan. He would do all the above but as said above he would also chase on in a straight line and turning believe it or not lol if a rabbit bolted to an un-netted hole or
  10. Much happier in the new home, thanks everyone. Got another boy due in december so things are great at the moment. watchman - Im just down the road from Brighton mate but far enough along the coast for peace and quiet.
  11. Dont know why this was moved as I was clearly asking the guys in the running dog section for there opnions and advice?
  12. Hi people, Got my new bitch "Lakeland Terrier" couple of weeks ago now and very happy with her, be a while before she proves her worth but a solid pup from good lines. I have shown her in another topic but thought id start new one on her, let me know what you think!! Thanks Darren
  13. Well got my new Bitch a couple of weeks ago now and she doing well, I did get it a little wrong as she is full Lakeland terrier out of good lines. To be honest im a lot happier with this as wasn’t keen on the Patterdale in it for what I wanted. The fella I bought her off had Lakeland and patterdale pups not x's and he talked me through it when I went to have a look. I was keen on getting a Bedlington but I am very happy with the choice of dog I have made and looking forward to the challenges ahead, I wanted a dog that could work the hard hilly ground I work, mark sets and be able to

To be honest im a lot happier with this as wasn’t keen on the Patterdale in it for what I wanted, as you guys above said they are a earth dog and hard to train with ferrets. 16. Just thought I would update this post with the outcome - It turned out the landlord had every intention of moving back to the property and had even put plans into the council to extend, we were looking for a long term let and were assured this was a property looking to be let long term.(they lied). After the initial six months on our tenancy had passed they gave us 2 moths notice, giving them just enough time to show the plans to the not so happy neighbours. Not nice of them when we have a young baby and made it very clear we didn’t want to move again. This would explain the proble
  17. looking forward to the weekend.....

  18. thats a nice big run u made for them mate, well done.....
  19. hello max, Well done looks like you had a good day, ive been out a couple of times but only taken the one hob to get him working early. Had 9 first trip and 6 the secound so not bad considering hardly had him out at all last year. Planning a solid two days out this weekend. Nice to see some pics up, keep them coming & never did get round to having that cuppa!!!! Darren
  20. well I will find out soon as got my lakeland Terrier the other night. I have been told that this dog will be no good for marking or working with ferrets by guys in the terrier section and that i will be digging to her most of the time but i plan on learning the hard way.......ill keep ya posted lol.
  21. Present a closed fist to the hob before you pick him up, with the knuckles leading. That way if he goes to grab you he will only be biting at the hardest part of the hand and you will be able to withdraw before he locks on. When you do this go in slow so as not to excite him and he will calm and become use to this and then you can begin to pick him up with the other hand slowly from behind his shoulders, once your other hand gets close move quickly to get a hold of the hob and he wont be able to bite you and then rub his head in an encouraging way to build his confidence. Eventually he will be
  22. Hi guys & girls, I have posted something in the earthdog section about a new dog I am planning on getting and wondered what people use to work alongside there ferrets and to see what you think of the Lakeland x Patterdale as a potential marking, holding and bush dog alongside ferrets? I have worked all sorts with the ferrets in the past and find most dogs can be trained to work in this way but obviously some breeds are better than others, however the guys in the earthdog section give me the impression that this breed of terrier can only be used to go to ground and to dig too. Is th
  23. Hi Guys I know this section is more running dogs but asked the question in the earth dog section and not many positive replies and saw a few posts in this section similar, so here goes. I am getting a Lakeland x Patterdale bitch pup tonight and would like to know if anyone has had this type of terrier and can give me some advice or tips on what I can expect, achieve and use to get the best out of the dog in the field and in the home. She is going to be used for working along with the ferrets as a marking, holding and bush dog but also a family dog with kids in the house; I have don
  24. Ya I have had a beddie whippet and that was the last dog i had, he is 13 going on 14 and retired now and lives with my nan. To be honest he was the best dog i ever had and would love another one like him but wanted to get a smaller dog and something with a little more fight in it. The missus aint keen on whippets either lol. I have had and been out with terriers who have been great marking dogs and worked well with ferrets but I do know they can kill ya ferrets at a drop of a hat and have seen guys with terriers who have banged the ferret as it came out the set but also with good training
  25. hedz31, I was going to wait till next year and get a pure Bedlington, do u think that would be more suited? and when i say work along with ferrets i mean marking and holding in nets not sending to ground with the ferrets or for running on to rabbits.
