  1. What the f##k's momma up to in the background???
  2. Very interesting.....that cover shot looks just like Foxy
  3. That's a well positioned shot of the jay JD, among the lesser celandine.
  4. I would think that mice and voles would be the natural prey of tawny owls therefore the whole carcass diet of pinkies and chicks would be closer to the normal menu, with the small bones in every meal. Mice and other rodents have a higher protein content than chicks but are also more expensive. Follow WAFs advice about the dusting of SA37 if you run out and need to rely on just muscle meat for a feed. How about making a photo diary of your progress for the lads???
  5. If you intend to release it later on Pete I would make sure it does'nt see you with the food, assuming it is at the stage were it can feed itself. If you could use a blind like a sheet of cardboard to prevent it from seeing you providing the food, or replace the food while the owl is sleeping, otherwise if owls are like other raptors, it will become imprinted on humans and not only have no fear of them but could even become aggressive when hungry. Where is Jasper when you need him?
  6. Well here's my opinion, for what it's worth. I think the different dialects across the vast range of the desert coursing dog accounts for the saluki/sloughi/slugi thing. Westerners who brought back examples of each strain then tried to emphasize subtle differences in order to lay claim to a unique breed and therefore add value to their own particular "exotic" breed. After years of selective breeding for a certain type, the dogs have diverged into distinct phenotypes, in the same way that the show greyhound has diverged from his racing cousin. The closer we can get to the desert breds, which we
  7. Same bitch at about 19 months when she caught 11 out of 11 blue hares last year, her first season. I posted these before but I've stuck them up again just for Lennard. P.S. Lennard if you see your cultural anthropologist again you should tell her about the culture thats under threat right here at home. White people have culture too.
  8. One of those pups, Willow aged around 15 months I think.
  9. my bitch with pups two years ago
  10. Yes Lennard, here is the granddam of my own saluki bitch before she was imported by Sir Terrence Clarke
  11. Well Fieldmarshall, I was very impressed with Smokey when I saw him run but I have'nt seen him on video. I know a guy who MAY have some of his runs on tape and if he does have I'll ask him to do me a copy and run you off one. My two bitches are Smokey grand daughters.
  12. Yes Tommy but the Forley changed a bit after millenium year with the British championship run by the A.L.C. in a different format, a series of head to head matches on another piece of land, while what we all know as the Forley Legends cup continued as before on the same land etc.. Kipper also ran a saluki bitch in the legends in 2004 but she had been injured and did'nt show her best. She was sent to Ireland however and this past season she got to the last four of a competition in the south killing hares in relatively small fields over here so she should be capable of throwing something useful.
  13. Why don't you have her Shaun ...........and upgrade your line?
  14. The first hurdle Flynn is to vote Conservative on May 5th.
  15. You want a hare dog Lennard so that narrows it down. You mention coursing under rules but the type of coursing to which you refer is doubled up running and is based on one dog scoring more points than it's opponent and has very little to do with catching hares. When the Forley cup was going in the 90's it was billed as the British single handed championship because it was open to any dog of any breeding so long as the owner was a member of an A.L.C. affiliated club. Anyone was able to register a club with the A.L.C. so that meant no-one was precluded from competing for the cup if they thought
  16. Well I got it right, but without any other information I think it was the only natural result of logical progression. Sounds to me like the setter of the test was LOOKING for a preconceived outcome...........anyway, I'm off to sharpen my machette.......
  17. Welcome aboard Swamper, you've chosen an interesting name. I just wondered if you recognise this old fellow.
  18. Ever wondered why Jacko prefered primates to canines?
  19. But the saluki is the dam, and the pup is the smaller one of the two. Turned out o.k.
  20. Same bitch again aged 20 months If you keep them warm, dry and well filled there should be no problem outdoors.
  21. Raised outside but they were born last monday in April '83 ( 8 weeks old in pic)
