theres the sw game fair at shepton mallet in march i think th west country and the SW are the same thing, has anybody been to these shows ? if so what are they like? as i say i haven't been to one before, what do they contain? thanks rob

only a rank amateur would make and use such a monstrosity, and you never ever set snares amongst cattle , not even that crap as it would still not safeguard a cow being caught by the tongue , and you don,t set snares on hoops like that anyway , as there is a problem with it , in the uk you do not need snares tagged anywhere , and the thin wire snare you speak off has killed millions of rabbits and hares over the last century , the hoop snare with the plain and simple fenceline wire , with a 6 strand wire has accounted for hundreds of thousands of rabbits and hares over the last 70 years ,what

is it really as simple as that, there is no recomended position say in the open or in tight to cover. i moved it to under the afore mentioned tree last night and today one of the compartments was sprungbut for some reason tghe door got caught up and did not close fully i don't know if it was a misfire or because of the gap left my catch escaped?? anybody else got any ideas , i'm kind of a novice on the magpie front. but i dropped 3 doves and a crow last night some some of the feathery b*****ds are getting it. Cheers guys(especially R&D) Rob

i have recently made a larsen trap (all mesh) from a kind of cobbled together design. i was just wondering where is the best place to site such a trap, i am currently trying to catch a call bird with the old fake nest and eggs trick its been out for a day or so quite close to (abbout 10 feet from) a tall hedge in a paddock where the maggies frequent, i saw 8 in the one tree the other morning, is th is a good place to put it or should i move it further out into the open. any help would be much appreciated thanks Rob

Mild dark and windy, weather is ideal. i wont keep my fingers crossed at the moment then its hard frost and bright moonlight. sods law

your right john you don,t want any type of smell on snare or run, peg out every run with a breakaway snare, when the weather is right, and if you are any good at it you will have the majority of rabbits snared in 3 mornings and any cats caught will release themselves , cage traps to costly, to bulky, and expensive to lose, i would have these rabbits cleaned up in jig time, stop worrying about the cats and get it done, i am looking at getting some breakaways , but one little question , whats the right weather?
-
oh yeah i forgot, one last question would a simple cage trap say 7x7x21 inches work with just a one way door system as my home made trap with treadle freezes in place and is not very sensitive ?? rob

thanks guys the part i'm allowed to hunt on is about 200-300 acres which is huge for one person with not much time (i think). -my airgun is an option but obviously that only works when i'm there - the cats were fine just pissed off and the farmer said he didnt mind if i caught the cats but his wife might get annoyed -drop trap is a bit drastic as it involves the pit -Where can i get breakaway snares from? -do you have to set fenns for rabbits in the burrows ( these are in thick brambles or on the train embankment so i wouldn't want to tresspass i dont know much

hello guys could you please give me some advice i have an awkard case on my hands; i set snares on a farm next to my house which is plagues with rabbits, i have set all my snares on clear and known rabbit runs but over the weekend i managed to catch (then release after being badly scratched) two of the farms cats. i would like to know if there is a way that this problem can be stopped (maybe breakaway snares) or if snares is not feasable if this is the case what other methods could i use because i don't fancy cat pie i kind of had my herart set on the bunnies. Thanks Rob

how do bodygrip teallers work and how do you hold them in a tunnel?? i am new to trapping so sorry if this is a stupid question thanks rob
-
do you still have any of the traps , snares etc left?? PM me THanks rob
-
how exactly did the magies get trapped if the traps were in tunnels "the maggies must have seen the rabbits belly up ,come down for breakfast ,and WALLOP." this makes it sound like they landed on the traps

the other pic these images might be useful to someone the cage is 7x7x18 inches and the door is an internal of dimensions 6x8 inches no spring but with a drop bar locking system made with 1 inch weld mesh the treadle is 3x5 i think . hope this is useful rob

i got half a dozen professional snares for free from a very nice man of the forum (thankyou) and today after being away for the weekend a set out all of my snares (16 shop bought on homemade tealers and 6 pros with pro tealers) i went back to check quickly about four hours later and i caught one but in one of the shop bought ones any way after scvaring off the local cats unwanted attention i dispatched the rabbit and as the ysay the rest is history, well dinner i retensioned the wire and will check tomorrow morning before college fingers crossed . tight wires rob

you could fix a hinged panel onto the see saw part which would fill the gap when tilted but could be pushed out of the way for emptying this could work Rob
