  1. Whin the collie dam is a working bitch with good early pace and good comfirmation i have a pic somewhere il see if i can dig it out and post it
  2. jazz.yes the lurchers are 1st crosses,if you click on the pic it should enlarge it for you.im not sure if typp has any plans for breeding but i could ask the q if you want Whin.the collie that typp uses is a fell collie makes a more biddable dog than other collie`s (tin hat on now)but lets not turn this into a collie slagging post EDITED to add the above is not directed at anyone in particular,i just didnt want the post by jazz to go off topic
  3. Your right typp does have some handy dogs, and he knows his stuff,I have got the litter mate (bitch) to typp`s arri, and i can honestly say this bitch is fantastic. not quite as good as her brother but thats down to (a) i had never had a dog before ( typp has been working lurchers for nigh on 50 years i think. shes very clever and very fast, and very very obedient she is my 1st and only lurcher so i was inexperienced with training but all things considered shes done realy well.If i knew then (training) what i know now i would of had a good gun dog to boot.I go up to typps a couple of times a yea
  4. sorry i cant give you an answer BUT i would be thinking twice about clouting the dog round the head,as you could end up with a dog that becomes wary of you.if he gets to associate your hand with a clip round the head he might start thinking twice about retrieving game to you.
  5. have a look at some of these sites mate, some old and interesting recipes and not just for wine http://www.celtnet.org.uk/recipes/brewing/wine-recipes.php http://home.btconnect.com/ntruman/wine/winerecipes.htm http://www.harvington.org.uk/hic/winerecipes.html
  6. Well i havent been out ferreing since around christmas mainly down to frozen ground and losing 2 of my 3 working team,1 died of old age. and down to my own stupidity the other escaped from the ferret court.I did contact the local rspca, vets and police but it hasnt been found,so i was left with 1 working ferret and 3 youngsters as yet un tried,i have also got the gwpxgsp pup that has just come out of her 4 week inoculation period. So i got 3 of the 4 ferrets collared up before i set off, just to remind them that the collars caused no harm.Drove the 30 min journey to a nice open warren that i had
  7. seconding what adam said but id be tempted to go for the mamba scope same specs as the viper, but the viper sits a bit higher with the turrets.also agree on the hawk nite eye scope i have 1 on my air rifle and regularley shoot rabbits on an industrial estate without the need for a lamp, just using the street lights.
  8. thats not a bad set up, however i just wondered how you are going to be able to clean the bottom section out as i couldnt see a door.also to save all the litter spilling out the bottom on to the yard why not get a few strips of old ply or skirting board tacked up all round to stop it spilling out.not being crittical mind, its just i had same problem with my ferrets rooting shavings n stuff out
  9. Hi all just thought i would share a few pics of my new pup, shes a 9 week old gwpXgsp. As you can tell this pup looks a bit stunted for 9 weeks old,but it didnt get off to a very good start in life. The breeding was accidental and before i got the pup it was full of worms as per the norm and only getting fed twice a day.now shes been bathed, wormed and de flead and getting 4 good meals per day,her dish is filled up and she eats her fill.shes coming on a treat now,i got her on boxing day and have been sleeping on the sofa (not bloody funny)but i want to get the pup house trained ASAP 1st night was
  10. must say i agree with poacher3161 almost £10 difference in 2 vets not 2 miles apart,i know its only a tenner but that £10 difference is 6 months or so milbemax wormers,so shop about
  11. is it the lamp with 2 switches,1 on the cable and 1 on the back of the lamp.if so make sure there both set to on
  12. Thanks for the reply hurlock, some of the pups show more to the whp than the short hair so i thought pick 1 with more looks of the whp, i just found out the litter have neither been docked or dewclawed
  13. Right folks pick your brains time again please.Could any members give me there experiences of this cross GWPxGSP please,i know at the end of the day theyre mongrels, but do they make a good HPR,or would it be better to go for the pure breed. neither sire or dam have ever worked and they are from irish lines and the pups are 10 weeks old thanks in advance.paul
  14. its definateley worth having a go,but to improve your chances (before snow fall) cover a patch of the field with anything large even a couple of old bed sheets if you cant get a tarp or sheet of polythene.then just roll up the cover but stash it behind your hide or in a ditch, then set your decoys on the nice snow free spot which should be visible to the pigeons for some distance. after snow fall, take a sweeping brush and clear yourself a patch.hth
  15. thanks for the comments lads, can i just add typp ratchers dog is heads and shoulders above my bitch in the rabbit catching game as he gets out a lot more.not that im putting my bitch down or owt she`s so obedient and easy to train so mutnt grumble eh.
  16. most people start ferreting 1st thing due to it gets dark early, last thing we want is a ferret laying up and a dig in the dark.if your success rate isnt very good, could be several reasons ie if you make loads of noise whilst approaching the set and netting up makes rabbits reluctant to bolt.or there maybe no rabbits at home, can you get a dog to mark for you.at 6am the rabbits will still be out feeding so your going to spook them.8am should see most of them back in the warren
  17. well i have been a member on here now for a good few months and i have never posted any topics or pics whilst out with the dog so here goes this is ruby 1x fell collie, greyhound bred by good friend typp ratcher whos dog arri is the litter mate. ruby up n over ruby spotted a rabbit ruby close up arri 2nd rabbit another 1 for arri arri another fine retrieve ruby finally got a chance buggers here some where arri retrieving typp ratcher, arri, ruby and 14 rabbits ruby with 2 rabbits after a quick lamp hope you all enjoy these pics
  18. to be honest i would not swap the scopes over untill i had looked at a rabbit at 100yards or so and at night.im not knocking your AGS but i have looked through a couple and at 120 yards in daylight it was rather milky,so its going to be harder at night.the simmons is a half decent scope for the money and should suffice.i have a mamba 4-16 x 50 on my hmr and very rareley do i have to wind the mag up.this scope is also prone to milking up untill you get the paralax fine tuned
  19. many thanks for the replies lads,i didnt think i was going to get a response as i posted on 20th nov. tarw, does good boy go by the name of phil,if so i have his details thanks. GSPdave, i did originally think of a gwp untill i found the griffon was easier to train.and at present i dont have moors to cover so a 200 yard out dog is not appropriate.but thanks for your input sherman, thanks for the pics, and confirming the ease of training.if you have any other useful info on the breed i would be grateful. thanks again all paul

  25. Most people wait untill the dog is 12 months old and fully formed, however i know folks that have taken a dog running rabbits at 6 months old, foolish as its easy to sour a dog, encourage opening up out of frustration, and most important a young dog is more prone to getting injured with leg bones not being fully formed.it would do the dog no harm going out with other experienced dogs, but only as an education.hth paul
