We have Col's lurcher/collie cross ( I think) and my flat coated retriever in front of us all the time, seem to lift more pheasants than anything else haha Bonus! Oh shit who's watching this?

Right, as a few know, I like to dig! And as a few know, I like using the big hobs. And as a few know, I had to shut up and go back to old school ferreting today with nets and a jill that may have just finally convinced me there are still good one's out there! After pushing the old man beyond all mortal 70 yr old limits on Monday, I had to settle with ferreting on the low ground in the valley bottom today. The farmer told us he had seen good numbers of rabbits here, just across from his farm, so the old feller seized this opportunity, and made me work the patch. It's real easy runnin

Does sound like they are on the top, in seats, rushes and pop holes. Dog may be the key to this sort of hunting,

Just the same as me, still like the hobs, but wish i could have a better turnout of jills to be honest! One or two times they can come in handy!

I knew i could convert you. Did you enjoy more? give your back a rest old man I did enjoy it Will, wish i had more good jills to be honest, if i had 2 more like that i'd be set up right! On the high ground there is only the odd one or two in a warren, and they are real shallow, The lowland has real deep holes, but quite a few in, so out with the jill and nets. (still had to dig her out a lot of times though.) Most of our work is on the high ground, the lowland stuff is traditional try and bolt stuff!

I knew we could convert you young Jedi All that blading has given you back ache Oh I still had to dig, just as much as usual, but a little deeper than usual! When you are getting 3 or 4 out of a set with only an old dog, netting up has to be done. Just glad i've got a jill doing the job properly on the second time out! About time i had a good one!

Crikey, after all that talk last night of digging, I will not be able to hold my head up again after today. On really easy land in the valley bottom, quite deep sets with a few in, and also had the old dog, he cannot catch many anymore, in so had to NET UP, and also started using a jill! The shame! Think i,ve just had a lesson off Will!

So what if the ferret gets stuck in a stop end? I know what Andy is up against as well Magwitch, some places, you meet a large rock, and you cannot for the life in you get through it. Only round it. I will try my best to get at it no matter what, but i know what old quarry sites are like, huge rocks underground with a few gaps between them. These deffo put you off!

There are some you will never get Andy, Fact! I have left 2 in so far this season, both in the last week as it happens. If i would never have dug it would be around 300-400 rabbits this season. Even if you think you cannot get them, the rabbits deserve the dig, out of respect at least until the ferret shows. There lives have gone just trying to survive, it's up to us to justify that. Sit and watch? Or at the very least try to get them? I know what i'll do mate.

Just bolting rabbits is something that people used to do before locaters, a few used liner's. How many time's have you heard the term Liner jill? (Never i'm betting) Only Liner hob. It's moved on now, and the hobs can be used with great effect, and not taking any nonsense. If i had 3ft digs every time, i'd still do it, it's only a couple of mins digging at tops. Just sitting there waiting for nothing to happen for 30-45 mins I would die of boredom and probs freeze to death!

If I had 4ft averages then I'd want a few bolters. Average depth for me is around 18", I get the odd bad one, but see this as a challenge. Most of the ground is easy going to be honest, only occasionally do i get a rough one! Then the fun begins!

I was taking bets on how long until you replied brim. I dont get what your obsession with digging is???? and do you have a mini digger lmao. Anyway each to there own Did you win a bet then Will? It's no obsession my friend, just hard and fast reality! Option 1. I choose to set 20 purse nets out on the holes, it takes me around 15- 20 mins to do this then, enter one of my ferrets. After 4-5 mins, nothing is showing, I get a mark on the locater, it shows 2ft, I dig it out, pull 1 rabbit with the ferret engaged, plus 2 more from the back side in a stop end. I enter the fe

Just collie crosses mate. We only rabbit at present, but some of the lines have come from charlie dogs.

Get the locater going pal, and also the spade. A little hard work reaps great rewards at the end of a day, you'll probably double your bag, (plus the moral side of it) remove the bodies! (why kill for nothing!) If you don't fancy digging sell me your locater! (By the way, the longest I have to wait is 4-5 minutes!)
