    You might find if you are working them fat, then they will show less of an intrest in food! (I.e live rabbit). Out of season don't worry about a fat ferret, it will do it no harm. Think the biscuit stuff packs the weight on. (look at the Atkins diet, no carbs. What's in the biscuit?) The odd day missed from feeding will do no harm, i'm sure in the wild they will miss the odd day from time to time.     Freekin eck, offline fot 2 nights (bloody broadband) it seems like ages ago! Not all make the working grade, if nature had it's way, these animals would have not continued to go on and breed, therefore natural selection has not taken place. This is taken away from any animal that is domesticated, it does not have to run the gauntlet to survive. I've seen it plenty of times, some don't have the heart for the job they were intended for, we as owners keep them alive and cared for, and go on and breed from them. Nature wouldn't breed from them. Beside this, young un's do need a chance

    From what little i know, if you have four jills you intend to keep, then the smart money goes on getting a hob v'd? Got to be much cheaper than 4 x speying. Only an observation of the facts. (I know nothing about speying and vasectomising hobs by the way.)

    A lot of what is bieng said does carry a lot of weight Phil, and i think these people have a little more know how than i do, but in nearly 16 yrs, i have never had a jill suffer due to not bieng mated. I think i may be lucky, but if you look after your animals, then even the areas open to infection, will not end infected. I'm sure the hobs doing the business will reduce the chance of a any infection in the longterm. It's up to you really.

    Not a bad size at all, i wished the one i made this year was a little bigger, or a little smaller. It's maybee just too big for 2 ferrets, but not big enogh for 4 ferrets, and 3 is a squeeze. I'll be building a few HILTON boxes during the summer!

    Here's a piccie of Billy bob the fang, he's not line bred, but his looks make you think he is! Don't know how he ended up that way, maybee his mother was rough with him, or he took a tumble as a young un, but one thing for sure, he give's the rabbits hell. Looks mean f##k all when it comes to working, and this little feller does not struggle!

    In fact one of my albino hobs looks a bit of a banjo player, one of his teeth on the bottom jaw stick out like an undershod terrier! I'll try and get a piccy of him when i feed them tonight, he looks real comical!

    Looks big enough to hold 4 hobs in comfort! The sanding and varnishing take a bit of time though!

    A lot of truth in that Kay, only bit i think differently about is the 'drive every occupant into the nets' bit. The one's that won't kill won't drive EVERY occupant out into the nets, some won't budge for love nor money, maybee leaving several rabbits down a warren.

    What I understand of keeping a BLOODLINE is to keep breeding from animals you have bred, to keep breeding the same line without any crossing out is LINE breeding as i know it. I'm not keen on line breeding, Just look at Deliverance! If you have kept a bloodline going (allthough only half of it each breeding) you are still keeping it going.
