  1. This is tweety pie. Not sure if it's an eagle owl or maybe a long eared owl. Hopefully somebody on here will know. I put a brick in for size comparison. The owl is joined to a small plastic stump with a bung underneath which you need to remove and fill with sand or gravel to stop it blowing over. Kev.
  2. Not sure, it's just a big scary looking thing. One thing I did do is paint its eyes with flourescent yellow paint and then painted the pupils back in. I'll try to put up a pic of it. (I'll have to wait for some help off my daughter for that one). Kev.
  3. do you put any blacks around as well or do you just owl and pigeon and give the destress call. I have been putting a bounce a flapper and 3 plastic blacks out and then using a U-caller to take photos. I have no owl as i dont know which one to go for , i have seen big owls and the little owls but dont buy as dont want to be left with something thats of no use. I just use a call to start with and then add one or two crows as I shoot them but to be honest they usually come down without calling. I have a plastic Little Owl as well but the big one works better. Kev.
  4. I have a plastic eagle owl which the crows hate, especially if you put a dead woodpigeon in front of it and pull a load of feathers out and scatter them in front. Works well on bare ground where it shows up better. Kev.
  5. Best bet if there's a clay shooting ground near you is to book an hour with the coach. May seem expensive but worth it in the long run. If it's one of the bigger grounds they may have a gun smith on site who could check the gun for fit. It may need altering a bit to fit you properly. Good luck. Kev.
  6. Don't just plonk your gear down and expect the birds to come to you. If you find a field with birds feeding on it and are lucky enough to get permission sit in your car for a bit and try to see which direction the pigeons are coming from and set your decoys up underneath the flight line. As a rough guide set your decoys up in a large horseshoe shape with the closed end pointing into the wind. The decoys should also face roughly into the wind but don't have them all like soldiers facing exactly the same way. In theory the incoming birds should try to land in the open end of the horseshoe so th
  7. Had horse in Switzerland, that was really nice. The worst thing is mother in laws cooking. Tribes come from Africa to dip their arrow heads in her gravy! I like yorkshire puddings with peanut butter on. Kev.
  8. Have to say I quite liked his 'Cook on the wild side' series. Kev.
  9. Well done mate, it's a good feeling ain't it. Don't spoil him. Kev.
  10. www.lakeland.co.uk do a plastic hand mincer which has course and fine mincing discs, a cutting blade that tenderises meat and chops onions, plus a pasta attachment for spaghetti, rigatoni and linguine. There's also a nozzle for making sausages. £23.99. Also a company called Express Gifts have a sight at www.healthhome.co.uk and sell a hand powered meat slicer with adjustable thickness setting. £14.99. They might be crap though. I only know about them 'cause we print their brochures where I work.
  11. Don't know if it's any good for you but in the autumn/winter Argos catalogue page 711 there is a combined mincer/sausage stuffer for £74.99. Kev.
  12. I got a cheap plastic hand mincer with a suction pad that sticks to a work top. I think it was £4.99 can't remember where from though, maybe Yorkshire Trading Company. I use it to mince raw woodpigeon breasts which I then mix with breadcrumbs, chopped onion or chives, or just sprinkle in mixed herbs, and salt and pepper and an egg yolk and then make into burgers. Kev. :tongue4:
  13. Nice one mate. I've only just joined this forum and it's really annoying to read an ad for something and not know where it is or how much. The seller ends up having to add it on later anyway so why not just do it in the first place. It's like when you are looking for a car or bike in a mag or paper and you find one and it says 'price on application'. **cking annoying. Also why, when someone does put price and location, do people then put up a reply asking how much or where is it? Other than that, nice forum. Kev.
  14. Hello everyone. My name is Kev (Kevegg on account of the fact I keep chickens). I have been ferretting for about 20 years in which time I have owned 2 lurchers, the first one a deerhound/greyhound called Gem who died aged about 11 and the 2nd one a bedlington/greyhound called Meg who sadly died a couple of weeks ago. I have also during that time worked several whippets, borrowed from my wife when she wasn't dragging them round the country to various dog shows. One in particular (Fern) was an absolute natural and just seemed to excel at catching rabbits and was faultlessly obedient despite neve
