surely sinse there are two parent pigeons feeding the young, if one is shot then the other could look after them and the chances of you shooting those exact two pigeons would be slim. I read once that when a pair of woodies go out to feed they keep seperate so if one is killed then the other could still look after the young, i dont know if this is true but if it is then you could still shoot woodies this time of the year without worrying about harming the young.
I was reading on the BASC website about drey poking as a form of grey squirrel control and it said that the grey squirrels you shoot will be replaced by other grey squirrels before the summer. Why and how would they be replaced?.
thanks
thanyou for your comments.

I was wondering what the difference between 20 bores and 12 bore was for killing power. ie if you had a 28gram 20 bore cartridge and a 28gram 12bore cartridge, what would the difference be between the two?
i agree but if Hare is shot with a shotgun by an experienced shot and killed humanely then it would be much more humane than if it was run by a dog because it would just be bolted and shot but if it was run by a dog it would go through a huge amount of fear and excaustion
As we are talking about hare SHOOTS whats the difference between a hare being put up three fields away by a beater and chased to a gun or being put up by a dog & handler given 100yrds grace and chased three fields to either its fate or escape. as for fear/humanity have you evr seen the look on a hares face when it
thankyou, the reason i was wondering about other ways to despatch wounded birds is because ni the past i have hit them on the head, only for them to come back from being unconcious 5 minutes later.

If when i am next out beating or shooting my dog present me with a wounded pheasant/ partridge etc what is the best way to break its neck?Do i pick it up by its neck and shake it? Hold it by the neck and turn its body round, or do i do a chinese wrist burn tipe thing on its neck??
Thanks
i want to get into beating a bit more as i have done it a few times and i was thinking about joining the N.O.B.S, is it any good and have any of you used it before?
thanks:)
it has a small clip at the bottom whitch u clip onto the line and i thought they would be good because they would save alot of time and effort putting the split shot down the line like Billbroon said. When i first saw them i thought they looked really good but i thought if they were so good why doesnt everyone use them?
i have always used normal floats that you thread the line through then attatch shot to the line when fishing but i have bought some floats whitch are self shotted with weight attached to the bottom of it and you clip them onto the line, theyre called puddle chucker floats and they seem really simple to use.so are they any good?
I just tryed uploading a picture just how you said so but when i clicked upload it said "you did not chose a file to upload"when i did and the file name is in the little box next to the browse sign.can someone please help.
thanks
