  1. Thankyou for the advice, so which pcp would you recommend bearing in mind i have about a £600-£700 budget for both gun, charginf gear and scope. zini i like the idea of a second hand air arms s410 thanks
  2. So pianoman, would a partly deflated rugby ball act as a good rest for a springer by helping cusion the recoil or would it make the bounce even worse?
  3. recently ive been looking around at different pcp air rifles as i am thinking of getting one to replace my springer. What i dont understand though is the such large price range on the rifles, for example for example the bsa r10 costs about £600 whereas the scorpion which only cost about £400 boasts the same power and accuracy as the r10.what more do you want? sorry for the lack of knowledge but im just interested because i wouldnt want to spend a large amount of money on a rifle like the bsa r10 only to find there are guns out there which are just as good for £200 cheaper. cheers
  4. Gurtwurz is this the video you mean of the stoat killing the rabbit?
  5. hi i am 15 and haveshooting permission for vermin, pigeons/rabbits.At the moment i use my 20 bor and air rifle. I was wondering at what age am i aloud to shoot unsupervised with a .22 rifle for rabbits i think it is 18 but i am not sure.
  6. I think you could join the shooting times woodcock club here http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/woodcock
  7. Well then here is my write up about today, my fiurst shoot. We had to meet up at the farmyard for 8:30 but i was up well before then buzzing with excitement and getting things ready for the day. When i got there we were told a safety briefing- it was cock pheasants only, no english partridge and no ground game. We were told that there would be a £25 fine if you shot an english partridge so i made sure that i kept my eyes peeled. The guns were then split into two teams of ten, A and B, I was in team A which meant i would be standing on the first drive and then walking the next to. We started
  8. Cheers for the help, i have realised i have about 50 28grams aswell so i will use them, my final question is that is it expected to give something to the keeper in return?money, drink etc
  9. Thanks for that, the birds arent sky scapers as the shoot is on quite flat land but it is late season and they should be decent high birds, unfortunately i will probably have to stick to the 25grams because my dad wont have time to get cartridges before saturday. And Lurch i was wondering wether it is expected to give the keeper something in return?but as i am only 14 i dont think buying him a beer is the best option lol
  10. I have my first beaters day on saturday, i will be using a 20 bore with 25g 6 shot cartridges. Is this heavy enough or to light for late season pheasants? If you have any other advice about the day it would be greatly appreciated as this is my first day driven shooting. cheers
  11. Im just starting decoying and im going to buy some decoys, on lots of websites they recommend flocked decoys which are twice the price of normal ones so are they worth it?or will i do just as well with normal decoys? Also are 12 decoys enough or should i buy some more?

  13. i went fishing today at clavering lakes and i saw an osprey!it was circlying around the lake for along time and eventually dived down and caught a roach, i know this was definately an osprey as i have watched them in the lake district, but i never thought you could see one in clavering?
  14. Ive got a vizsla just like that, He's 8 years old and i took him beating for the first time last year, he came on well and eventually retrieved his first partridge although he was still wary of retrieving pheasants, his pointing was great aswell. Now hes turned gunshy
  15. ok, thankyou. i Have tried the tying wings onto dummies method before and it did work until now when he takes no interest whatsoever. On a good note though i took him for a walk and he eagerly retrieved sticks for me, he even caught a rabbit and brought it back although at first he didnt want to pick the rabbit up atall he just bit at it, eventually with encouragment he picked it up and then carried it for ages after spending ages biting it and trying to get it in the right part of his mouth as if he was abit nervous of it?? just to say the rabbit was dead when he was biting it, he killed wi
  16. My vizsla is very wary of dead or walking game, if there is a rabbit or a winged partridge running away from him he will catch it if he can get near enough but when it comes to game not really moving he is much more wary and will just sniff it....strange lol
  17. I just started beating last year on a partridge and pheasant shoot and decided to take my 8yr old vizsla with me. When he first started he wouldnt retrive or pick the shot partridges, just sniff them, later in the season however he did start retrieving and catching shot partridges but not the pheasants, he would just sniff them or if they where alive, pin them down with his paws. Why is this and how can i help it? Due to the season being just round the corner i thought i would try and get him retrieving again, so i shot a woodpigeon and threw that for him, but no he wouldnt retrive that.
  18. I think it really depends on the shot size and choke more than the gauge of the gun, ie a 20 bore with a 30g load and full choke will kill than a 12 bore with no choke or vise versa. I find that i kill pigeons cleaner with my 20 bore than my friend does with his 12 bore.
  19. I own a 20 bore berreta silver pigeon which i will use for game and pigeon. I was wondering what are the best and cheapest brand cartridges for this? thanks
  20. hi, i am 14 years old and i am going to go decoying with a friend for the first time in a couple of days.I know that we will be decoying over wheat stubble. Now the only experience i have of decoying is decoying feral pigeons to an airgun in the farm yard, which i know is completely differrent to decoying woodys to a 20 bore!i have just 6 shell decoys which i know is probably not enough. So could anyone please give tips on what pattern i should use, fieldcraft etc? thankyou
  21. Well thats strange because i have found that these cartridges work great with my 20 bore, maybe your gun just doesn't like them...
  22. THankyou, i will try some of these tomorrow.
  23. The last few times i have been fishing i have been pluaged with silver fish. I have been targeting tench and bream of any size and carp ranging from about 5-10lb, i have been using an open ended feeder and method feeder packed with groundbait and 2 grains of sweetcorn on the hook.I have also float fished sweetcorn, worm and pellets The problem though is that every chuck i am greeeted by loads of small roach which mop up my hookbait and loosefeed before the larger fish can get there , i know that there are large carp and tench in this lake but how can i catch them!?
  24. ok, thankyou, are mk6's still fine for squirrels and rats etc, or do i need an mk4 for that?? cheers
