There are plenty of threads about what deeks lads are useing ....I have tried them all over the years and I am out shooting pigeons nearly every day of the week but maybe only deecoying a few times a week depending on weather ,where there feeding etc . here is my set up that I have found to be successfull through trial and error On rape or stubble I put out 20 cradles with dead birds 2 groups with a space in the middle to encourage birds to land in the killing zone the individual birds i have quite close together cause if you watch birds feeding they can be quite close and have found this t

I have had very limited succes with them ....what I have found with them is they are worth a shot when it is realy windy but if the truth be told I have around 30 of them and they never realy come out the box much

Hounds look in good condition and very unmarked ....is it similar type of cover you hunt over ther to here or is it quite open country

3.4 is a real tester for the terrier but when you have a huntsman and hounds waiting you need the bolt and the fox shot to stay within the law . Sal is over 10 shes lost a lot of pace and is straight lined a bit these days but still seems to be in the right place at the right time and still gets out to do a bit but is semi retired

25 1/2 is average
-
Don't get me wrong I've had bigger than the 18lber. I weighed him because he looked so big. I once had 3 in a hole. 2 dogs @ 21 lbs each and a 18 lb vixen. 3 big foxes in the same earth. But as far as monsters go ?? I think 30 pounders most times can be taken with a big pinch of salt. I think the average dog fox is around the 15 or 16 lb mark with vixens a pound or two lighter. That's according to our scientific friends. So IMO guessing weights can be weight of the mark. As for weighting being only for anglers, otter hunters regularly used to weight their tally after a successful hunt in

We were out on thurs conditions were a lot better now that most the snow has gone and ice has thawed Drew the first spot that has always held in seasons past but we have blanked so far this season ..Ali was up on the top covering a big stubble field for a retrieve with the big dog and I was at the bottom ...my nephew was put with a gun to stop it heading towards town and he was told in no uncertain circumstances could he miss and allow charlie to become an urban fox followed by hounds ....so he was a tad nervous A call cmae on the radio that a brace had got up and was heading hi

when is the best time of year for decoying pigeons ?
MOO replied to lampingking's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
i think the easiest time would be when the crops are up in the summer and we have had rain and got flat /laid crops watch for the birds coming on to them and then set your magnet and flaper up on the laid patch you dont need decoys and you should have a good bag 200/300+ birds .... but till then look for birds fliting over your permission and decoy them ......this way your geting a lot of traffic over you decoys good look and keep at them .... ps if thay are on the feild at this time of year you not going to get much sport set up 2feilds away on the flight line caan you explain as I dont g -

There is not 1 best time of the year but differant time through out the year . In the winter during snow will concentrate pigeons where food is above snow spring time over drill summer on flattened crop late summer when the first fields are combined ...but when there is plenty of stubble they move about and have too much choice to have big numbers in the bag you got any pics of your 200-300 bird days x38? -

Just because you are out doing something 4 x a weeks doesnt mean you are any good at it . you say set up deeks 2 fields away from flight line nonesence even the best pattern in the world will not bring in birds like you say ....if they are not working the field they wont come in -
We were out not ideal conditions for hounds , for us in vehicles and deffinatley not for mounts ....I was not expecting charlie to be on top and was pretty sure we would be digging ...drew first spot with nothing but roe ...moved onto the next spot that is always holding and foxey always takes the same line ....sure enough the hounds went well and pushed him to one the guns to give them a much deserved and needed mouthfull ... all the verry best to everyone out for the rest of the season
