  1. Heard you the 1st time wilf!! I think adding the lab will be really benefical, more brains and certainly more stamina. I have a dalmation X Bearded collie, now i'm not an expert at all, but all the local lurcher guys round my way have said what a great litter of pups you'd get by sticking a greyhound over her. The dalmation stamina is immense, she is a real effort to tire and would go and go, when out with a lot of their lurchers, all different crosses she'll be the last 1 running. I think the lab x's will be excellent dogs.
  2. wing, coot, owl, goose, rook, stork, beak, feather, tip. . . . .. keeping on the bird theme!!
  3. Providing a safe, snug place, like a cage indoors with a blanket over the top under a table, and as said above, tv turned up loud and curtains shut.
  4. If she's really bothered by it, stick some benadril anti hystamein cream on them. Have always used it on my pups till their pads harden up.
  5. Looks like a lovely dog. My beddyxwhippett pup is coming up 8 months and literally in the last week, it's like he's realised what he's meant to do. Suddenly very interested in rabbits and whilst walking today he took off after 1, but lost it in thick cover. I'm not sure how to proceed with him now, i haven't given him any "lurcher training" in terms of working him. He is very obedient and his recall is excellent. I now don't know wether to leave him and let him discover himself whilst out on daily walks, or try to encourage somehow? He does get worked on a flirt stick like all my dogs, and
  6. Dog lost also has a lot of coverage and is a good place to put it.

    Such a sweetie!! Glad he's doing well.x
  12. With 7 week old puppies the best and easiest way is to take them out every 20 mins or so, and as mentioned after playing, sleeping, feeding etc. Praise and some tasty treats will work, he won't understand punishment and has no control over his bladder at the moment, meaning he can't hold it so it's not his fault at all. Getting a cage inside is also a great way to house train, if he eats and sleeps in the cage it's very rare that a puppy will litter it's "den" unless it really has to. Regular garden trips are the best option and this way you normally avoid any accidents in the house, s
  13. Mine eat them fresh, warm and complete!! Rabbit skin acts as a natural wormer, worms will attach to the skin and fur in the dogs gut and pass with faeces.
  14. I can imagine. . . puppy teeth are sooo sharp! Where about are you in the country?
  15. Raw feeding is by far the best diet for your dog. I buy all my dogs meat from a local supplier, if you can find a good butcher they will sell everything you need. Best bet is to get a saperate freezer and order in bulk. Mine have everything, minced beef, lamb, chicken, tripe, offal, whole rabbits, beef rib, pork, chicken wings and carcasses, turkey necks. . . you name it they get it! I don't feed any veg or fruit, and i dont suppliment, they will sometimes have raw egg as well. My three are fit, healthy and have great teeth, coats etc. The local farmer has 3 labs who have recently gone o
  16. I know, but you could say the pup did it, for comedy value!
  17. ha ha! yeah got a lab collie cross whos thirteenish i think! oh and heres my ugly mug plus pup dont worry ive had a hair cut since this was taken! lol! Never mind the hair. . . i'd be worried about the puppies biting issue, half your ear is missing!!!
  18. Puppies are the best pulling tools for men, more so than babies in my opinion! My friend kept borrowing my puppy this summer to walk around the park near him, he met hundreds of girls!!! Just asked about the other dog because it normally helps having an older dog to correct the biting.
  19. Awww, a man with a puppy. . . . .gets me every time!! Just out of interest do you have other older dogs?
  20. Accidents happen to the most expierenced dog owners, important thing is like you've said, lesson learnt. Hope the pup is on the mend soon. Don't beat yourself up about it. x
  21. OMG he's adorable!! Although with the level of aggression he's showing towards you,i think the best option would be to re home him, i'll do you a favour and take him off your hands??!!
  22. Lets have some pictures of the savage beast!!
  23. I agree with Black Sabbath completely. A lab is a good all round working gun dg and if brought from working lines will naturally do all you want him too. Steer clear of chocolate labs!! My uncle has kept, bred and worked gun dogs for over 40 years all his live in the house and it's never been a problem. Having said that, they know the rules and don't have the run of the house, don't go upstairs, on the sofa etc. They sleep in the utility room and generally other than the evening stay in there. Try and find a local shoot near to you and i'm sure lots of people there will happily give you
  24. As long as he's listening when you shout ouch then it's working. If ignoring him makes im start again then put him in another room. The shouting ouch, is the most effective bit. He'll soon learn. Once you've made the liver cake, he'll be much more attentive when training and the biting should naturally decrease as he focuses on the food!
