What do you mean he was really a welterweight he had his first pro fight at 19 years old and retired at 44 with over 200 fights dont you think his body grew in that time. For me Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter who ever lived by some distance....i think im right in saying the term " pound for pound " was created for Robinson. Ive always felt the danger in being a " fan " of different fighters clouds your judgement i wouldnt say ive ever been a fan of any fighter i admire different fighters for different reasons but if its not a local lad fighting i dont mind who wins fights.....

We are talking lightweight you have been referring back to the Buchanan fight and that was at lightweight. Its all very well saying he wasnt this and that but he was by far the smallest and Hagler was by far the biggest....should Hagler be one of the " Four Kings ".......he was the only one who never moved in weight every fight he had was in his own division.....infact theres probably fair argument to take Hagler out of the 4 and replace him with Wilfred Benitez....but hey he had a shaved head and was an iconic figure so we,ll leave him in . Im only messing Hagler was a great fighter

I get that random specimens of outstanding strength crop up in nature.....but in only 1 limb ?....ive seen an x ray of Olegs arm and bone wise there is nothing there that shouldnt be,another arm wrestler Matthias Schlitte has 1 arm even more out of proportion than Olegs but he has been diagnosed with a genetic bone disorder Klippel Weber something or other so there is usually a medical explannation for these things...it is generally recognised in the arm wrestling community that these genetic freaks are only coming out of Ukraine, nowhere else.....look up a guy called Denis Cyplenkov he is like

I dont agree with you mate but no problem ? Id say along with Cesar Chavez he,s probably the greatest lightweight of the last 50 odd years.
-
You know the scoring of fights Mick you can pressure an opponent all night long but you get no credit for hitting his shadow....yes theres always going to be fights that cause debate and its all opinions......a funny description of that fight which always stuck with me was from a well known London trainer who said " it was like watching a kid get the better of his evil stepfather " ? Nice having the natter about it anyway cheers ?
-
I said he won the 5th.....no way the 6th that was the first round Leonard held his feet as i remember......Hagler just couldnt find him throughout the fight the only rounds he won were the rounds Leonard took breathers i dont think had Leonard been fighting regular Hagler would have won a round.
-
Its a rough game mate sometimes these things go your way and sometimes they dont but i dont really think it would have changed the course of history had he been dq do you ? Shame for Buchanan yes but that was the man he faced i actually think he would have had a much better chance with the later more controlled version of Duran it would have given him a chance to show his skills without being closed straight down by the little savage.
-
Mick tell me what rounds Hagler clearly won ?....from memory he won the 7th and 8th .....the 10th by a whisker.....and the 5th which was the first round he won. In a fight with no knockdowns,no point deductions i just cant see how anyone could give him much more than 4 rounds. Hagler was too slow on his feet and even when he did manage to get him into position Leonard had the better of nearly every exchange.....Leonard scored the cleaner shots throughout.

I think it got ruled a tko as in Buchanan couldnt answer for the 15th was it....i dont see what else it could have been Duran was well ahead in a rough messy fight of his making....Buchanan was a tough guy and a fine fighter but Duran was just too much, too persistent and too hungry.....i take it you think he should have been dq ?
-
Thats terrible i heard he had been taken ill last week....doing such a good job down the Orient as well.....very sad news.
-
ok thankyou mate.
-
You are right he wasnt a nice fighter or a nice man look at some of the personal things he said to Ray Leonard....and that was the smarts of Leonard he used all that and out thought his opponents,he knew how humiliating it would be to the macho image Duran had to be mocked,he knew he could no mas him. No you cant condone his dirty tactics but boy could he fight....i quite like the fact he didnt try to be anything other than what he was a spiteful, horrible brute ?
-
Look at his right arm Mackem....he pulls right arm at club level and left arm at world level so id say 10% training and 90% genetics. And by the way thats Devon Larratt he,s pulling in that clip Devon has reigned world number 1 for nearly 10 years and is the most technical arm wrestler in the world.....and 4 stone heavier. The tragedy of it all is Oleg had a near death car accident last year that took the lives of both his father and his best friend Andrei Pushkar who was one of the top pullers as well...they was on their way to last years Zloty Tur in Poland which is like the Champi

Mick fights are not scored on what a referee should have done Hagler was confused and couldnt find him the whole fight while Leonard was putting rounds in the bank,Hagler didnt win a round until the 5th....Angelo Dundee completely out maneuvered the Petronellis all they were telling Hagler between rounds was " get rough with him " i remember the fight like it was yesterday i dont know if you are old enough to of been around to watch it back then but i remember it wasnt shown live on Uk tv we didnt see it here until a few weeks later but i remember just seeing still pictures on the news the day

Going by record against each other Leonards was far superior he was the only one of them to beat all of the other 3.
-
I think its hilarious listening to Frank Warren now i like the guy but its like listening to a bitter old man eaten up with jealousy all the opinions he had 20 years ago he has gone back on he just cant accept Matchroom are now the big players i heard him say the other day its sad that Eddie Hearn is selling his show in America he seems to forget how hard he worked to get Don King on side all them years ago. People forget the skullduggery thats always gone on its nothing new all thats new is the transparency through the internet... it was a closed shop back then if Don King was operating
-
oh ok ?...just that ive told the story to so many people since this Chernobyl series i thought it easier to just show a clip of him. Yes the only way to beat him is to get him on his bicep as his hand/wrist strength is unreal....its a creepy looking hand he has under developed fingers on an over developed palm, and the muscle/tendon/ligaments for 6 fingers !
-
I was too young to see him fight but as a young boy we all wanted to be Billy Walker he was the local golden boy round my way and a West Ham icon for years after he packed up,he was managed by his brother George who was a good businessman but will never be forgiven for turning Hendon Dog Track into Brent Cross Shopping Centre ?
-
He was embarrassed, humiliated into quitting.....it would be like me playing a darts match with Michael Van Gerwen eventually im going to throw my darts on the floor and say " f**k all this "........for me Duran was just about the epitome of what a fighting man should be.
-
? Dont know if your being sarcastic Terry i know most folk wont have a clue whats going on i didnt put it on for the entertainment value, just to show the whole Chernobyl genetic mutant thing if indeed thats what it is.
-
Just out of interest for any of the fitness/strength chaps on here this is a lad i met in Poland years ago Oleg Zhokh he was an up and coming prospect,as soon as i wrapped hands with him i knew something was amiss he was only 16 and he wiped the floor with me....having kept an eye on him over the years he has beaten some of the biggest names in the sport this clip was when he was 19 he wins his weight category and then ends up beating Zelimkhan Zankarhanov who was Champion at the time.....As a teenager Oleg was beating some of the worlds best arm wrestlers often giving away 5/6 stone in weight
-
Not a fan of either mate both had qualities i admire its just how i saw that fight. This new " I am Duran " thing coming out on film looks good you heard about it Shark ?
-
And apart from the fact Hagler barely laid a glove on him and when he did Leonard had the last of every exchange.....my thoughts have always been if Hagler really felt he won he would of pushed for a return but he just said f**k it im out of here and you never hear from him again.....we all see fights different though ?
-
Robinson v Lamotta ( St Valentines Day Massacre ) Gatti v Ward the first one No way Hagler beat Leonard....Leonard by at least 2 rounds maybe 3 Benn/McClellen takes some beating for pure savagery. Lloyd v Curry for sheer confidence in your ability For me Hagler/Hearns has always been the greatest fight of all time though.
-
Smithfields is on the way keep coming and you,ll end up at my 2 favourites The Boisedale and Goodmans.......steaks to die for. Good for you getting yourself about avoiding the stabathon and enjoying the finer things of London ?
