So many dogs were ruined in those early days as youngsters we all just thought they was machines im sure you will have read bits about this young lad we was literally rolling him out every other weekend from the minute he was on at 10 months !....its hard to admit but he wasnt far off " abused "....people said he stopped in his 4th which he did but the dog was shot to pieces before he was even fully mature.....hard one to accept and you live and learn but i hope he's had a whale of a time up there in bulldog heaven.

There was mate yes....as was another group in that area caught out in a similar way.
-
Most proper shows would be near silent apart from referee and handlers it was never good etiquette to be jumping about shouting in the crowd.....not that it made any difference the dogs were too focused on what they were doing for it to make much difference in my opinion.....i remember hearing about one of the first big raids in a sports hall years ago rspca/plod busted in knocking doors down chasing everyone about, lads jumping out of windows etc the dogs never batted an eyelid and plod were infact criticised for " allowing " the dogs to carry on longer than necessary.

Most people with multiple dogs will " pre keep " a dog for 1 month and " keep " the dog for 8 - 10 weeks.....if its an only dog they'll normally be at a much higher level of fitness to start with and 8 weeks from the off is usually fine. 3 wins for Championship.....5 wins with no losses for Gr Ch. Most dogs will be all used up after 3 mid - long matches dont forget they will have already had their schooling which all takes out of a dog....some of course are more resilient than others and go on to have 5 and 6 but the nervous system starts taking a pounding towards the end of a dogs

Pretty much mate yes....no contact of course the way a fighter might spar up to a week before a fight dogs see no contact whatsoever....and yes the general concept is the same, steroids of course allow for shorter rest and higher output....a lot of people can send a dog in " fit "....but truly peaking a dog for that few hours takes more than that and is an art in my opinion.
-
She turned it in a year later going for her Ch so you cant beat nature eh ?
-
That was a few days out as i remember so not totally peaked out.....and only had 47 days work in her......conditioned entirely " over the phone " ?
-
If you asked most who have put their money where their mouth is with these dogs they would say the same......peace of mind and all that.......it shouldnt matter but at the time....it does ?

I remember putting some pictures on here years ago of a dog down in Cyprus off old dogs id had years prefiously he lived his life as pretty much a nomadic wanderer ?....he would spend weeks walking from village to village up around The Troodos mountains getting fed here and there coming into contact with various animals along the way he just had that aura of " i know who i am and ive nothing to prove ".....yet he was bred down off some of the most active bloodlines of the time.......the adaptability of these dogs really is amazing at times.
-
Thats a Skipper bred dog if ever i saw one.....lovely pictures.

You say that but plenty of winning match dogs were not overly aggressive even during battle....as though they just knew their way around and had the intelligence to not waste energy one of the biggest matches of the time in the 90's in Holland was won by such a bitch,it was like she was doing the " Ali rope a dope " thing and just let the other bitch tire before turning it on towards the end some of them really were that smart they didnt need aggression.

Most pics of dogs that went through my hands mate ended up with the dead chap spoken about on this topic !....and it wouldnt be right to show other peoples dogs but this is a dog im fairly close to on the continent a few years ago just before her first time out.

Yes heard a few chaps say the same....i think he used to go on a few of the forums years ago and held his own i think most peoples real anger at him and his mob was the total hypocrisy of an organisation coming along and taking dogs into " care " only for them to die in their care from neglect ! But yes i think he probably knew enough to have a decent understanding.....the Asian gent knew how the world works and just treated him how you would treat any " opponent "....no point spitting and shouting etc.

I should read a lot more than i do but since these audio books have become a thing i give them the occasional whirl on a long drive i,ll try and get hold of that mate thankyou ?
-
And if he doesnt his wife certainly will ?....John wasnt the most pleasant individual but in fairness he was game to the bone and had great understanding of these dogs....a little bit too ruthless on under achieving dogs for my liking but a hell of a dogman.....in fairness to Butcher though he took it on the chin like a man ( or nose in his case ) and laughed if off apparently i dont think he pressed charges.
-
And on the subject of bulldogs i was informed about the passing of Mr.Butcher a few weeks ago which brought a smile to my face.....such is life eh....or death in his case.
-
I have relatively little experience of Staffords but from what ive seen they have too much of that wide eyed scatty bounce off the walls madness to them to really be " intelligent ".......a bit of over eagerness to please kind of thing and too much reliance on human interaction compared to pit bulls who i always felt had more of that " im a survivor i can make it on my own without you " mentality......pit bulls were much more intense and focused than Staffords who in my limited experience are easily distracted.

Nah too much times gone by she'll know i asked someone ?
-
Must admit stuff like that is fascinating, whenever i hear things like that i think i should do more research in it all.....my mrs keeps asking me stuff, yesterday it was " what do the pearls on the crown signify ".....and all i keep coming out with is " how the f**k should i know " ?......to which i get the inevitable " well you book yourself a proud Englishman " ? I think theres probably " reason " for near everything we see at these type of ceremonies i agree it would be great to have some knowledgeable soldier type who's on the ball with that sort of thing to hear it from.
-
I find that really interesting.....again running dogs were never my gig but i would never have made such a link between the 2 sports....similarities i suppose yes but thats interesting to hear.
-
Did the daughters name begin with M by any chance ?....owned by a chap in Plymouth or close by.
-
Again.....steroids themself dont create winners the person administering them does....you can just as easily ruin a dog with them.....without wanting to blow my own horn i was one of the first people to do dogs on shots through a keep years ago as i had a lot of knowledge of them and for those who's dogs i shaped up their records spoke for themself....the downside was it made a lot of the dogs infertile and so you dont get to reproduce exceptional dogs......but done properly you are just going to get more of everything mate thats just a given.
-
He had some unfortunate troubles when he came out the dogs and lost some years but he definitely had that game cracked he just seemed to know things about dogs that nobody else knew.....i always said had it been legal he would of been a wealthy chap.

Where do you want to start mate ?.....different juice for different jobs its not a one size fits all but if done correctly you cannot fail to end up with the age old adage of basic " Fitter/Faster/Stronger "
