  1. Cheers Millet he's been totally ignoring feather for over a year then this week he's had that hen pheasant and a couple of smaller birds since. Its good news for me, the permission I have with a good amount of rabbits are either flooded or have livestock on at the minute. When the cattle get taken inside thats when the season picks up for me, should'nt be long now bring on the frost.
  2. Cheers Strong Stuff for the Hi Vis reflective collar, well made as usual.
  3. I would recommend them, it worth spending the cash if you've got a decent motor that you want to keep clean, you could aways make a box out of ply to save cash.
  4. Yeap this is his second season and his first feather, I'm gonna make a lure out of the wings, hopefully he'll take a few more.

    1st Pheasant

Out for a quick fly this morning after nightshift with my male Harris Hawk. We were out on the hill not expecting to get much as the rabbits are few and far between up there at the moment but its handy being so close to home. The bird was on a high scanning flight when he dropped like a sack of tatties into an explosion of feathers, 3 hen pheasants split off in different directions. I was expecting my bird to return to the fist after a failed attempt, no sign of him then I hear his bells in a gorse bush he flys out and takes a high perch about 4 metres away staring intently at the bush, I go
  6. Well done, nice pics. Could do with a day like that myself.
  7. lol don't tell the wife
  8. Excellent photos gary, what weight does she hunt at, and how much did she weigh after you fed her up on that rabbit. I normally allow my fella about 100g if I'm letting him feed up on a kill, I don't feed him up unless I know I'm not getting out the day, I'd say 100g is a full crop for my male.
  9. A pic of the dogs relaxing after a hard morning.
  10. After a slow start we're up to 14 so far.
  11. Took a few pictures whilst out flying on permission I share with Thurso Jack. You can see the island of Hoy (Orkney) in the background of the first and last pic.
  12. Got this lead made by Strong Stuff, perfect for road work, the terrier can pull on it like a train and when the car breaks down you can use it for towing.
  13. Nice pup mate, looking forward to meeting her, just drop mine off when you've got a minute.
  14. I've got gaiters and I'm getting those barbour endurance overtrousers so find a decent pair of boots.
  15. My hawking permission varies from flat ground, to quarry, and hill. I've always worn wellies except when the ground is hard with frost because it is mainly wet, but recently I've gone over a couple of times (not old age or drink) and today the mud was so thick (f**king coo's)I was losing me wellies. So I was wanting to know if there was a lace up boot that is a waterproof as a wellie but ain't gonna break the bank?
  16. Here's the pics of the pup (9 1/2 months) in his collar made by Strong Stuff. Cheers again mate.
  17. Does anyone know of a decent trouser that you can walk through gorse without getting your legs ripped, the best I found so far are waxed cotton.
  18. Read "Hawking and Falconry for Beginners" by Adrian Hallgarth, thats a good one to start with, you should get it on Amazon. Good luck.
  19. Its an interesting site right enough, I feed barf diet to my dogs without problems (so far). I've discussed it with my vet and an army vet from the Defence Animal Centre and they both approve of the diet as long as it balanced and varied in its content and prepared and stored hygienically. I'm yet to hear from anyone who can give a firsthand account of a dog thats been killed by feeding raw.

    Meet Roxy

Can I ask a question, when the bird lands on carrion, do you take the bird off the same way as you would with a kill? Cheers.
  21. The Highland Foundation For Wildlife and The Highland Rapor Study Group are tracking a couple of Scottish honey buzzards migration by satellite, here's a link to their web site, it could be interesting to follow their progress over the next fews weeks. http://www.roydennis.org/honeybuzzard.htm
