    I do not understand I know of 4 good working border digging dogs all 5yrs or over dogs that will stay till dug to ONE stud dog can line 100s of bitchs lads will have to travel to line their bitchs keep the BORDER TRUE heres the thing if there are a few like yourself. then the breed may not be as bad as it is thought to be. here's my thoughts how many of the five are producers. some borders are slow to start so say averasge two years to start three seasons to evaluate. all goes well and a dog is ready for stud. finds a decent bitch of say four years old with two good seasons. and then to

    a good wellbred strain of working terrier. with strong border influance. as borders are afterall the base stock of many lines. thats if an outcross was deemed nessesary. again i'd like to wish the club every success. its a very interesting venture there are also many unregistered working borders around that would swell the genepool

    i have always liked a smooth terrier and the smooth red pat to me is one of the smartest working terriers to my eye does anyone keep this type or know anyone that is working a line or strain of mainly red /smooth coated fell. pics would be good also . cheers

    but the gene pool is not small so keep it true WORKING Border to WORKING Border if you did this lads will say if it was not for the pats or lakies blood lines in them thay would not work if you look around and be honest only a few good working blood lines of pats and lakies out there so keep it true if dogs have to be at least five season vets. and off borders of a similar background. bitches off a working pedigree also. then the gene pool is small that isnt even debatable. a border terrier dog that is worth breeding off is generally a hard animal and if worked regular for five sea

    lol theres a lot of people on here that would tear your hands off for a dog like that. embrace it and enjoy a good terrier for what it is... if it was a brave dog it wouldnt just go for things smaller than itself. tell it to pick on something its own size. its just a bully

    i will be interested to see how the club gets on its feet. will it cap prices. to a sensible. 150. to 200 for a pup in line with most working terrier breeds. will it deal with the very small gene pool. by discussing an outcross program and if nessesary set the ball rolling. will it put work first. and turn its back on the KC. if this is deemed nessesary. ????/ these are the real issues. that will need to be faced head on. if the working border has any chance of survival. good luck to you. you will need it

    the best book on terrierwork in our time without a doubt . his training and entering the jack russell terrier is also worth a read and would be a good book for young terrierfolk to read
