  1. I am sure they do. But I bet the ones that get away thank you for the 75%
  2. With nylon you have to make a double knot or the knot will slip. Just make a sheet bend as normal, then make another loop above the knot you have just made and pull tight.
  3. I have thought about this quite hard, 'but than means nothing'. Looking at the photo I would guess that the field the rabbits are feeding on is to the North/ish of where they live. You now have an extra disadvantage in that most winds with any North in them will die away after dark. This is not set in stone but happens more often than not. The only Northely wind that will blow consistently all night is usually when there is a low pressure system stuck to the east of the UK. To be honest I think you have solved the problem yourself, without knowing it. When you state that you have ferr
  4. Plenty of threads about trammels on here. This is just one of them. TC
  5. It does not matter if you run out a 15yd net or a 25yd net or a 50yd net the proccess is just the same. The only difference is the time it takes to run the net out. It takes as long as it takes. Simples TC
  6. You may have to , but people who know how to set a net properly do not. That is a major difference. Bit of a controdiction going on there, me thinks.
  7. If I was doing this drop, I would do it exactly the same as you have described, but maybe ferret the couple of warrens along the hedge the day before. Then when banting the rabbits back do it very slowly so that they have time to bypass the warrens stinking of ferrets and head for the rabbit fence and the safety beyond. One major factor that is eveident these days is that no one wants to have a blank night. I have learnt more by having blanks that I have from catching rabbits while long netting, thats for sure. Try it if it works all well and good if it doesn't then don't do it again i
  8. John, Another excellent write up, I hope your dad is well recovered by now. I have a question to ask, just out of curiosity. I have followed your posts because they are well written and you are an intelligent person who is not seeking to boast. Sorry I digress, here is the question. Does the size of the bag affect your enjoyment of the days sport? After catching a lot of rabbits every time you go out would a day where you caught say 5 rabbits detract from the day for you? I think I know the answer, but we all know what thought did. TC
  9. Watch the latest Ray Mears episode on BBCIplayer it shows you how to do it.
  10. One reason why snaring would not work for me there. It,s a 160 mile round trip. BTW trapper123 that hedge is less than 10 miles from you.
  11. feck me maltenby YOU win hands down without a shadow of a doubt I will never moan about my overgrown hedge again. TIERCEL,That is some hedgerow, jesus, would not want to ferret that.Do you get many rabbits out of it??? That was the first time I had done it, and probebly the last, I will stick to the long nets at night for that hedge. The major problem with it is the base of the hedge is covered in ground ivy and the rabbits have runs underneath the ivy all along the hedge so even when the bolt they travel underneath the ivy up the hedge.
  12. This is a new farm I aquired this year in Pembs. 15 to 20 feet wide solid Blackthorn hedges. You cannot even see through to the other side yet alone run a net through it.
  13. Best rugby commentator there has ever been. What he did not know about any player was not worth knowing, his knowledge of rugby was immense. In my mind I can still hear to this day his beautiful accent, "Laidlow out to Rutherford", and "they will be celebrating in Glynneath / where ever the player who scored was from, tonight". The man was a genius I do not think that any commentator has come close since he retired.
  14. Whats so difficult to read about that. He did not get any new land. I wish people would actually read posts.
  15. 27 years is a long time to wait, but pails in to insignificance compared to 54 years and counting since we beat the all blacks
  16. Scotland played out of their skins yesterday and got their just rewards. I watched the whole game but remember little, too busy celebrating after Wales three tries. And as for the person who asked why Robinson could not do the same for England. There is an old saying that comes to mind. You cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
  17. You want to get yourself the Brian Brinded dvd longnetting the old and the new mate Save yourself some money and just count 90 meshes between each pole @ 5 yard intervals. 108 @ 6yd intervals 126 @ 7yd intervals. That will give you 100% kill on your nets with a 4" mesh. TC
  18. Try these phone them up ask for stuart, he will tell you the dyes you need and how to use the dye. The disperse dye is the one I use for dying polyester. I have used it on nylon and no problems.
  19. Over the last 40 odd years I have developed the following as the way I enter young ferrets. First off let me say there is no right or wrong way of entering a ferret. This is the way I do it, other people will enter them differently. I have found that this system works for me. Your first need is a small warren no more than 5 holes if less even better. But and it is a big but. There has to be a rabbit at home, this is crucial for nothing breeds success like success. I like a fine day with a breeze of no more than 15 mph, there has to be some breeze to blow the scent of the rabbit around the

  21. Its been a great read mate! I was then going to stick a post up after reading through and seeing the pic's saying be careful flying that bird near them electrical transformers and wires , please tell me it didn't get electricuted? either way I'm sorry to here about your loss .... Jasper This is the first time I have read this thread, and as soon as I seen the bird on the wires I thought back to a very good Redtail that was lost to them. It is always sad to loose a bird especially one that was doing so well. One thought though is, the seeds have been sown in your mind and the

    any tips

If you have a 200yd sheet it will be 1800 meshes long. When you are knitting a purse net each row is half a mesh a lot of people get confused by rows and meshes. A 2" board will give you a 4" mesh.

    any tips

For a 50 yd net you only have to count 900 meshes. That will then leave you with another 900 meshes that you do not have to count. As you are making a pre set net you will have to count the meshes to put the poles on the net. If you put a piece of twine every 90 meshes when counting the meshes to find half the net you will only have to mark the head lines and foot line every 5 yards then as you assemble the net 900 x 4" = 100yds of stretched net Divided by 2 = 50yds of net with 100% bagging. There is no other way of doing it, it will take half an hour at the most.
  24. When you want to show a photo click on the image code 4th one down just paste that code into your post.
  25. Do you want cheap and nasty or good quality at a resonable price? Have a look at this thread then email molecatcher@talktalk.net for good nets at reasonable prices.
